If our sins, as Christians, are as far away as the East is the West, what does this verse mean?

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

I assume this means something other than what it sounds like it means! 🤔

The "bema", the judgment seat of Christ, is not to determine whether one receives eternal life or eternal condemnation. That has been decided before the second coming of Christ.  That is established in the life here on earth before one has died.  I think the lesson of the bema is that there will indeed be varying degrees or levels of blessings in salvation and of curses in condemnation.

So our misdeeds are NOT sent to the Bottom of the Sea of Forgetfulness?

Micah 7:19
You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. ::pondering::

Also, I can hear the outcry on this one:

Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

We are forgiven.

With a BUT! - That curse you spoke of. Salvationally we are forgiven, but still subject to that curse for our misdeeds, apparently.

Sounds like a parable--- which without one the Holy Spirit Christ spoke not---

Hiding the gospel understanding from the god of this world. Giving its understanding to his sons of God (Christians)

The god of this world no eternal spiritual vison. Therefore limited to the temporal historical dying things under the Sun.

In the previous chapter last verse 18 we are given the recipe needed to interpret the parables. Comparing--- mixing the temporal historical things seen with the invisible, eternal spiritual things.

Comparing the unseen things of God to the same spiritual gospel understanding .

Parables do not change the historic they add honey.

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

2 Corinthians5:1-3 King James Version For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God,(Beyond the temporal dying. ) an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

For we walk by faith after the unseen eternal thing of Christ ( 2 Corinthians 4:18) , not by sight after the temporal historical dying.

By faith Christ in us we have appeared. He by the world was judged and declared guilty

He declared to us he will never leave or forsake us Therefore we have that gospel rest.  the mystery of his faithfulness revealed as it is written

2 Corinthians5: 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Can one who is saved be given recompense for his "bad deeds" as the verse says? As 4WD said it is not a matter of salvation, BUT of rewards or curses for the things we have done in the flesh. It isn't a parable in my opinion, but a clear statement.

Parables are statements of Christ's faithfulness the unseen eternal things---- they must be mixed with the temporal historical. Two kinds of statements working as one the gospel rest (Hebrew 4:1-2)

Whether we receive "good" blessing or "no" blessing bad .it does not depend on what we do ----he sat in our place

2 Corinthians 5:10-13 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.

Yet Paul's message to the Corinthian church was that those who are IN Christ will be rewarded or cursed for what they have done in the flesh, and it does not affect salvation.

1 Cor 3:10-15

10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilledfn master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.
11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw
13 each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.
15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
