Over the years, I've heard many discussions about the validity of deathbed conversions, but I've never heard any discussions on dying halfway through a baptism.
However, this does remind me of my maternal grandfather that I never met. My mother never even met her bio father, even though he lived right outside her town when she was growing up. Everyone knew he was her father, his name was on her birth certificate, but he didn't want any part of the situation.
Anyway, when he was on his deathbed in the local nursing home, his two elderly sisters had a hearse (didn't have an ambulance back then) go pick him up and bring him down to the church building and baptized him. They loaded him back up in the hearse and took him back to the nursing home where he died a couple of weeks later. That was definitely the talk of the town and was the subject matter of many debates.

I would think getting wet never saved anyone as the talk of any town .
