5 inches!
wow... seems like it's been a long time since that area got so much!
seemed like it was never over 3 inches when i lived in Franklin
making any snowmen?

janine

I really do miss the snow... the stunt driving up & down the hills of Sioux City... never driving any vehicle I'd cry to dent...  snow forts & sledding with the kids a few times, when they were small... Mike losing his keys sledding down a rugged steep hill  :D (always good for a quick "I'm superior" boost)... the clean, clean white landscape and the crispy crackly air... the excuse to wear really attractive snowboots... the excuse to wear fur!

Aww, thanks Lee, for the snow report.  Drink a mug of hot cider for me.

Bon Voyage

5 inches?  You people kill me.  5 inches is nothin'.  Get a good set of snow tires and you are good to go.

Haven't seen grass in awhile up here in the Great White North, and no eh, I am not in Canada watching Hokey!

Is there a smiley face for envy?   That's me crying over my personal lack of snow. You'd think I'd be used to it, having lived all of my life in Texas. I got spoiled last year when we got 8 inches one day in November. ACU closed down for snow for the first time in its history so I got to stay home and be "snowed in."

At least today it's winter-like temperatures - upper 30s, with a low of 20 tonight - but by next week it's supposed to be up to 70. I can't agree with 70 degree weather in January. Oh well.

:christmas:
The snow just missed us here in Florence, though we had some icy roads with folks skidding around. These Alabama drivers do not know how to cope with this kind of weather, not like the people back in Chicago where I lived when I was a high schooler.

I have three grown children + grand kids living in Nashville now, so I'm sure they are out sledding and slipping. I almost want to get on I65 and go North until I see some snow, but my flute-player wife says I should stay here and look at a snow dome, shaking it every once in a while.

Glad you got home safe, Lee. Snow sure is pretty. Me, I got stuck at the grocery. The plan to dash through, shop, pick Eric up at his school and head home didn't pan out. Instead I wound up there for like 5 hours waiting for a cab (after I couldn't get out of the lot ... JerryBrooke, snow tires would be nice, wanna buy me some? Just kidding!) ... I have trouble bringing myself to ask for help when I know it is majorly inconveniencing someone. But after so long my husband (who I was in touch with via the pay phone) called our church office to see if there was anyone there who could help. Our minister was and volunteered to come get me. He was there in what seemed like no time in his 4-wheel-drive. He drove me to pick Eric up and then got us safely home, groceries and all.
It was out of his way and a very very kind thing for him to do.  God bless him. Hubby spent the night at work, is getting a ride home tonight from his boss who has to come this general direction tonight anyway. Brian, our 16 year old magnet school student, finally got home around 6 last night. School let out at 9:30 AM. Quite a day!

Hopefully I can post this and read some messages before my browser decides to close out for no apparent reason!

Jerrybrooke,

Really? I spoke with someone yesterday from a place up north that gets lots of snow and she was complaining about it because her son could not come home from college because the planes couldn't land.

Maybe that is not your area..I think it was Chicago.

Nashville has gotten almost 5 inches of snow. I tried to drive in it and ended up off the road. It was all I could do to get back home. You can't tell where the road begins and the grass ends. It's all white!

So I am here at home. Looking at the snow that is still coming down. It's even more than when it was snowing here on the board.  :D

It's like having a white Christmas on January 16 with no presents and no pumpkin pie.  :christmas:

Glad I can spend my snowed-in day with you guys and gals!

I'm kinda glad it's snowing here at home. :christmas: I just hope classes were cancelled.

Now if it had only snowed 20 days earlier we could be "Dreaming of a White Christmas!" My car is almost covered to where you can't tell it's there. Look at it pour! I want it to keep snowing. They say on the news that this is the worst snow storm since the last 1980's here in Nashville!

I remember when we had the ice storm back in '96. 4 cars ended up in our front yard and no electricity for 8 days. Hey Lee, will you help me build a snowman in the front yard?

Mom says I can't go out and play because of my knee!  :(  Too bad I had to have surgery a week before the snow decided to come. Oh well!

I'm glad I could spend the snowed-in day here with you all. I hope the rest of you are at home safe! If you live here in Tennessee & plan on getting out be careful!  :)

Haven't made a snowman yet, but played in the snow. Took Jacob (my baby-boy) outside.  He had fun.

Josh, I like your new, new avatar. You switch a lot. To all you people who dont have an avatar, I have added many new ones. Surely you will find one that matches you!

Jennfier, I'm glad you're here. I bet classes will resume tomorrow....when they get the salt on the interstates. They need to get it on my driveway.

I am glad your knee is doing better than it was. I know you were in a lot of pain last weekend.

:-)

Some areas got 8. And it's still snowing.

janine

Heaven knows what the "big freeze" we're supposed to get this weekend will do to people's gardens... there are big sweet-smelling roses of many colors blooming all over my neighborhood right now.

If we get what the weatherman promises, it will be cold enough to freeze the tail off a Capuchin monkey (:p).

Roses in January...

Nevertheless

Winter-like temps, huh Winky?  We got snow her in MO too, but only about 2" at my house.  The temp was about 22 this morn and was dropping all day.  BRRRR!!!!!! :frowning: (blue from cold)

We did have a white Christmas here, and it sure messed things up!  We got 10" two days before Christmas and my kids couldn't come home from college!   We just had to postpone the celebration a bit. :christmas:

We broke a record for snowfall in Dec. here, but we also had tornados and temps in the 70's.  Last week we had two nice days in the upper 60's, and now we're lucky to reach the 20's!  Ah well, they say if you don't like the weather in the Ozarks just wait a day or two. ;)

Never

spurly

We were supposed to get at big snow, but it all went east of us.  So all we got were the frigid cold north winds.  I don't like north winds.

I guess the key isn't sheer inches, but what you are equipped & experienced to handle.
