How many televisions are in your house?

How many televisions do you have?

Big one in the family room.  One in my and wife's bedroom.  One in the guestroom, and one for the boys that is used only for video games, movies, dvd's.

When I was a kid we had one, it got three channels, and I was the "remote".  When my brother and I got a 12 inch B&W for our bedroom for Christmas one year, we thought we were rich and fancy.

One in our family room, one that is hardly watched in our bedroom, but mostly for local news, and one in my computer room for my Grand to only watch Blue, Elmo, or Veggie Tales videos on.

Okay, Okay!  We have one in the den that is used for family viewing.  One downstairs in the basement that I mostly use to play my videotape when I do yoga.  One in our bedroom that my husband watches while I read at bedtime.  And one in my son's room that is never used anymore, because he's away at college.  So, in a family of only 2 people, we have 4 TV's.  :doh:

I remember from a communications class at Harding in the early eighties the statistic that more American homes had televisions than indoor plumbing.  Of course, a TV is easier to install, but Americans seem to consider it a necessity.

I voted "one" but I guess technically we have three.  We only use one, really, the one in our living room.  We have a 21" in the garage waiting for the yard sale we'll be having soon (it's been out there for a year -- I hope it still works) and we have one in the van, though we only use that one on long trips (maybe once every 2-3 months).

We're actually taking a TV fast this summer.  We waited for all our shows to end (just "Lost", "Alias" and "The Amazing Race") and we've sworn to no regular TV viewing until October (or whenever "Lost" starts back up again).  We'll watch our movies, maybe two a week, and the occasional educational Video or DVD we'll put on for the kids' schooling, but beyond that, no, no, no TV.  So far it's amazing how much longer the days seem (not that we watched that much anyway), how well behaved the kids are ('cause THEY watched waaaaaay too much TV) and how much happier our family is with books, books on CD, family games and reading aloud to each other.  It's an amazingly bonding family experience!  :-)

Same thing happens when my husband and I take a TV fast.  And, we spend more time in actual conversation with each other, too.

Well, we have the big screen in the living room, there is one in our bedroom, and the kids each have one in their room.  My son's can only play his gamecube, and my daughter actually has cable.  Although I would love to have that turned off in her room.  But my husband hooked it up so that she could watch TV in her room.  I don't like it because I can't see what she is watching.  Which, more than likely is the Disney Channel.  Her fav. show is Raven.  It's an ok show, better than most that are out there these days.

A friend went with his wife and daughters to the annual family camp at Manatawny, near Reading, PA.  His five-year-old daughter aftward said it was generally fun, but she was shocked that they didn't have televisions in the cabins.

I think we still have the little tiny 6" TV/Radio we got from the bank in its original box.  I oughta pull it out and get batteries, we might need the radio part during the hurricanes.  I do have one of those tiny ones on my desk at work, but I only use the radio part.  The nice long antenna is needed for the bad reception in my building.

This is such an interesting thread.  I think the TV fast is a great idea.  I've never tried it.  That would be really hard during football season!  Hmmm....

We have five.  I hadn't stopped to count until I was reading this.

We finished our basement last spring.  One of our elders is a remodeler.  We installed a home theater with the pull down movie screen (about 80" diagonal) on one wall and run the HD through a projector hung from the ceiling.  The cost of doing this was much, much, much cheaper than buying even a 42" HD widescreen.  It is literally like being there when you watch a football game.  And movies.....the sound is terrific.  We really enjoy it!

Wow.....a TV fast.......hmmm.......boy, that would be a good one.......But football season?..........hmmm.
