I put this in the Announcement section below, but wanted to make sure every one saw it.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with Tim Woodroof's book A Church That Flies. The basic premise is that when man first tried to fly, he tried to fly like the birds, unsuccessfully. It wasn't until the Wright brothers that propelled gliding was sucessfully done. The ultimate goal was to fly; the form simply had to be changed.

The same mistake holds true for Churches of Christ. We look at the 1st Century Church and try to emulate the forms that they used to be Jesus to their culture. We think that if we get those forms (worship, baptism, etc.) absolutely right, the functions (community, zeal, evangelism) of the 1st Century church will necessarily follow. We know now that that isn't true. We can emulate the forms as much as we want but the functions don't always follow. Sometimes, it's necessary to do different forms to get the functions.

From July 31st through August 2nd, the Otter Creek Church in Nashville is hosting A Church that Flies seminar. Tim Woodroof is the teaching/preaching minister at OC and will speaking, along with several other elders and other resources.

Go to the Otter Creek Resources Web site for more information on this. I think that a lot of people who come to this site will be greatly blessed. Also, please pass this information along to any others that you think might be interested. It will be a great time to get with other Christians who want to see renewal and revival in their churches.
