And just think, they were once someone's little babies many years ago.  The pain it must cause to see what was once bundles of joy grow into such purveyors of wickedidity and eviltude.

And designated henchmandom.

The DH rule is an unauthorized addition of man.  Though, I'll admit, last night's walkoff HR by Big Papi was impressive.

There are several NL pitchers who are not guaranteed outs.  Besides, if you coddle the pitchers to much, they come to expect it.   ::smile::
What 4 or 5?  And if you look at interleague play, they aren't on par as pitchers either.

Bronson Arroyo is the only pitcher I would worry about hitting...and he used to be on the Red Sox.

One of the finest hits I've ever seen came from a pitcher for the Cardinals who squared to bunt, and when the pitcher brought the ball, he pulled the bat back and punched the ball over the heads of the onrushing, bunt-shifting defense.  Drove in the go-ahead run in a game he eventually won.

The DH is an abomination in the sight of God, a stench to His nostrils.

Indeed, it is strange fire.

Remember Bob Gibson?  Hit two home runs in a world series.  I wouldn't want to be the guy to tell him I wasn't going to let him hit anymore.  Or Don Drysdale.  Or Juan Marichal (he would've treated you like he did John Roseboro if you'd even suggested such a thing).

And if there'd been a DH, Babe Ruth would be some forgotten pitcher, best known for pitching a perfect game in relief.

If pitchers can't hit as good as they used to, it's likely because they use the DH in the minors, and the pitchers dont' even get a whack at it until they hit the big leagues.  And then, with the bullpens used like they are, if they get two or three at bats a game, they're lucky.

Bon Voyage

1 Timothy 4, American League Version

1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry, order them to abstain from certain foods, and play baseball without a designated hitter, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

I said "henchmandom" out loud and it caused the milk on my cereal to immediately sour.

It probably made a cloud pass over the sun at the same time.

Cross-titled

Travis Hafner is probably not quite having an MVP year, but he certainly is the most valuable with the bases loaded!  But then the only thing he has to do during a game is every couple of innings jump up and hit. ::wink::

You know, it probably won't be long until the majors adopt a year-long 40 man roster and, just like football, they'll have a team that just plays in the field and another one that just plays offense and runs the bases.  You think the Yankees load up now.....wait till he can buy players for both halves of the inning!

That's what they said back in the seventies when the DH was first introduced.  It was Finley's big idea, but it didn't fly.

Baseball isn't football, and it shouldn't try to be.
