Questions about the Holy Spirit

Emily - That is a sizable question.  Here are a couple of thoughts.  The Holy Spirit indwells us and once we become discples, He never leaves us.  We hinder Him mainly by not listening.  Following are a few scriptures that might help.  If you happen to have a Bible software.  You could search for Holy Spirit and then determine for your self, who He is and what He does.  I'm sure there are others who could give you a more indepth answer.  Have you been folowing the other thread on The Holy Spirit?  It might help.

13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,  14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.

51 "You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit!

Hello Emily, I do believe that the Holy Spirit can be taken away from someone who continues to disobey, we must remember that King Saul lost the Spirit of the Lord due to his pride

But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from
the LORD troubled him.,1 Samuel 16:14

we must also remember that the Lord will not dwell in an unclean vessel(heart)For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor UNCLEAN person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.Ephesians 5:5

so you see that if you fail to continue in obeying God He will not dwell within you,And he that KEEPETH HIS COMMANDMENTS dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby
we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

As you know we have an advocate with the Father so when we do sin we can come to Him(repent) with a sorrowful heart and ask Him to have mercy on us and forgive us and He will, but if we continue to be disobediant He will not dwell in us, so if that happens you will have to receive His Holy Ghost again, which He is good to give us because He is merciful, but only God knows the heart of man, and He knew Sauls heart and took His Spirit away and replaced it with an evil spirit

I have many questions about the Holy Spirit. I think I will start with one and maybe ask more later.  

Once you accept Jesus as Lord, are baptized, and receive the Holy Spirit, does the Holy Spirit ever leave you?  I know you can "grieve" the Spirit and "hinder" its working in your life, but does it ever actually leave you? What if you sin, does it leave then and come back when you repent?  How would you know if you no longer have the Holy Spirit in your life?

Hey Em,

We can't move topics to other topics, we can only move them to different sections. Example...today I moved a question about a Rubel Shelly article from the "introductions and general discussion" section to the "discuss Articles" section.

I think it is fine to discuss the Holy Spirit in this section. It sure beats deleting it. Dont' you think?
