Basebrawl

After the unfortunate ending of the Angels/Rangers game last night I think I have come up with a solution to basebrawls.

If a player leaves the bench or their position in the field to participate in a basebrawl they would receive the following penalties:

1st basebrawl:  41 game suspension (1/4 of a season)
2nd basebrawl: 81 game suspension (1/2 of a season)
3rd basebrawl: 162 game suspension (1 season)
4th basebrawl:  Lifetime Ban from the game.

I think this would solve the problem of basebrawls.  What do you think?

The player's union would probably veto.

I think we need someone to set an example and not participate in one of these...just sit on the bench or stay at their position.

What problem?

They're happy!  Look at how high Ray-Ray's jumping!  Tim Foli's even dancing with one of the Phillies' players.  And Mike Lieberthal, nice guy that he is, is helping someone off the ground.

And here, you have the ever-emotional Kyle Farnsworth expressing his sympathy for Paul Wilson's health problems.  Just tore the poor guy up.

This one, of course, is a classic.  Pete Rose is thanking his good Bud Harrelson for a lovely dinner the night before.

So again I ask, what problem? ::saint::

Rose and Harrelson even signed their picture.  Feel the love.

Can you believe this, Rod Barajas (with all of his protective gear on) is hiding behind the pitcher Scott Feldman.

Seriously though, these brawls are a blight on the game I love.  Here are the suspensions from last night.

Rangers
Buck Showalter (manager)  4 games
Scott Feldman (the sacrificial goat brought into the game to plunk an angel) 6 games
Vicente Padilla (a pitcher who wasn't even in the game) 5 games

Angels
Mike Scioscia (manager) 3 games
Adam Kennedy  4 games
Kevin Gregg (pitcher who plunked a Ranger)  4 games
Bendan Donnlelly (pitcher who plunked a Ranger) 4 games
Ron Roenicke (bench coach) 1 game which he want serve until the manager returns.  Hogwash.

This nonsense has to stop for the good of baseball.  Baseball is not hockey.  More players and coaches on both teams should have been suspended - even if they have to suspend the entire roster and call up minor leaguers.  And I am a Rangers fan.  A frustrated Rangers fan, but a fan nonetheless.

Bon Voyage

Suspend none of them.  Its great TV.

Oh, and the Detroit Tigers can beat up your team.   ::cool::

So are you saying that they better not brawl this weekend?

Would the players union have to approve this?

Poor sportsmanship is the sure sign of the evil influence of Beelzebush...you'll notice it was his Ranger henchmen involved.

It's also a sign of weak character.

Weak character = good tv.

If the players want to get out there and roll in the dirt, they can have at it.  A good brawl every now and then is pretty cool.  It'd get old, though, if they had brawls every game.  You might even see baseball team scouts going to some of the UFC matches looking for talent.

So you're a big fan of CSPAN, then, Gary?  ::smile::

Teams usually play better for a while after a good bench-clearing brawl.
Which means maybe the Rangers should do it every game.   They need the help.

Maybe that's Kansas City's solution.
