kanham,
Thanks for the info.  A pleasure to meet you.  Yes, Rich did have a way with words didn't he?  Thanks for the creed.

kanham,

Good to meet you!
And you're only 1/3 of the way to 100 posts :)

I've dabble in contemporary Christian music, but currently own only three or four Amy Grant CD's and a single Smalltown Poets mp3.
My favorite 'Christian' music for listening is still Handel's Messiah. :D

Groundhog Day, as I recall (its been a looong time) was a good movie, one of those that got you to thinking.

The Apostle's Creed was driven into my head as a Catholic school product. I've personally come to the conclusion that He (Jesus) 'decended into hades', not hell...

Grace is a good thing, no question there.
...that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone...
- circa Hebrews 2:10

Yeah, concepts and words both get co-opted.

I can't say of someone, 'He's a man of catholic tastes", meaning perhaps that he's got an everyman sort of list of likes & dislikes...  Someone would think he's a Catholic, or likes to taste Catholics (ick).

It's no use to tell someone we had a 'gay old time', unless they're a big Flintstones buff & would know the last line of the closing theme... they'll think I'm making some reference to the relatively nearby Bourbon Street.

Welcome, boo.

To the Board -

The Rich Mullins song is great and would recommend it.  Also, the word creed is not a bad word.  It is just a listing of things one believes.  And the Churches of Christ, born out of the RM, certainly has it's creed (and at least 25 deviations, lol) - even though it may not be written down.

We've all been sharing our individual creeds on this board, haven't we?  Anyway, listen to the song.  You will share in Kanham and my enthusiasm, I'm sure.

SKIP, YOU SAID: "The Apostle's Creed was driven into my head as a Catholic school product. I've personally come to the conclusion that He (Jesus) 'decended into hades', not hell....

MY COMMENT: Hell is the word that in the Greek means Hades, which is the realm of the departed spirits. It is not the grave, as some teach.

Our connotation of Hell is better illustrated by the Lake of Fire, which is the second death, which means eternal separation from God.  I think, also, that the word Gehenna is also used to mean that idea of Hell.

I have certain beliefs about Jesus going to Hades, but I'm not going to get into that on this post.  Been there, done that....on another post, I think.

It is clear that it will be quite some time before I make 100 posts so I decided to give some background.

I was raised in the CofC and left the CofC until my early 20's. I am thankful that what brought me back was Christ, not the CofC.  God has shown me that grace is not a 4 letter word, but actually has five.

My posts come from the perspective of a child of the CofC who, as a child, calculated that a person needed to convert at least 2 people in his lifetime to be saved. Thats what the CofC teaching did for me.

So please forgive me when certain verses or arguments send my posts in a decidedly negative, non-productive direction. I realize that this happened recently which is why I thought I should share.

I considers myself a member of the cofC (Booty) and no matter what the name on the door, the kingdom is within the heart.

We have 3 young children and pray that each day we can bring glory to the Father who through the Son has given glory to us.

My favorite movie, Groundhog Day.

I love music. We own over 200 what some would term contemporary Christian albums.  We have a relatively diverse selection in my opinion. I Like Rich Mullins for the open honest heart, Sonicflood for the praise and worship and groups like Switchfoot or Downhere because I am an up tempo kind of guy.

In closing,

I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
He was crucified and dead and buried

I believe that He who suffered was crucified, buried, and dead
He descended into hell and on the third day, rose again
He ascended into Heaven where He sits at God's mighty right hand
I believe that He's returning
To judge the quick and the dead of the sons of men

I believe in the Holy Spirit
One Holy Church
The communion of Saints
The forgiveness of sin
I believe in the resurrection
I believe in a life that never ends

And I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the invention of any man

A mix of the Apostle's Creed and Rich Mullins

Hi kanham,

I love the Apostle's Creed. However, do you actually believe in the "communion of Saints" in its fullest sense? Also you left out the word "catholic" between "one" and "holy".

It is interesting that you use the creed because the teachings of the RM are against man-made creeds as divisive to the body of Christ.

I agree with you about grace, our salvation is through God's grace.

Later,

Ken

Skip, I expect to make 100 the first part of next year.

You can also probably see from my background that something like the Apostle's creed has been a great discovery simply because it is so simple and the CofC of my childhood was anything but simple.

s1n4m1n,
The CofC denial of creed would start me down another line of discussion all together and would probably be one of those hot button issues that tends to set me off. The above remark will probably help to see it. Anything can be corrupted, abused.

I'm not sure what you mean by fullest sense. I am just relating the idea that I see and that is all Christians are saints and (Heb. 13:24) that communion means "a body of people with a common faith"- Websters.

The only reason I left out catholic is because Rich did. With it meaning "universal" I would say I am a part of the universal church.

I love the song "Creed" by Rich Mullins.  It lifts me high, I mean high into the sky.  Especially the part about being the very truth of God and not the invention of any man.......I believe!!!!

Lifted me just reading the words.  Thanks, Brother.

Hi,

Sorry everyone I've never heard of this Rich Mullins person. I got a little confused when kanham mentioned him.

OHHH Man--I sure miss Rich!!!  Loosing him (Heaven's gain) was a really sad day for me.  His style was unique in Christian music.  It gave me the feeling of flying across the prairies on the most beautiful day or being able to touch stars on a clear night.  His style had a freedom in it that most song writers/singers never come close to attaining.

Glad you joined us!

Grace to you and peace.
