I'm pretty sure that Jesus would do pretty good with computers and wouldn't lose any work, since "Jesus Saves".   hehe  ;)

I've always said it wouldn't be too hard to figure out who I was... if that's what you were trying to do.   :p

I'm only needing a "measure" of anonymity, and the persons said "measure" is intended for probably...

a. won't stumble accross that.
b. if they do, they still wouldn't take the time to add 2+2.

My anon posting is not for you guys... it's for certain "legal eagles" in these parts.  I figured I'd take my chances for a fellow Yorkie.

too funny

Jerry, a little northerwester Montana - I grew up in Libby, where my parents still live.  Its only about 2.5 hours away from Cd'A, so I get to see them quite a bit.  Wow, the internet sure makes this world small... a college buddy and a fellow Montanan, both in the same thread!

nerneh, I am sorry to hear of your loss.  I don't really consider myself an expert at web design; I'm primarily a PC techie guy who happened to be the only member in the congregation who had some interest in creating a web site for the church a few years ago.  I've learned most, if not all, of what I know just by playing with things and learning a little at a time.  I guess a good starting point would be a site like pagetutor.com.

I've passed right by hundreds of times, but never had an occasion to stop.  Its in a beatiful location, though - very near to Bull Lake and right in the middle of the Cabinet Mountains.

[!--QuoteBegin--][/span]

Quote

[!--QuoteEBegin--]Does (or did) Libby have two Churches of Christ?
Sad, but true.  Unfortunately, the church in Libby split about 10 years ago.  Growing pains...  I have known a few of their preachers over the years, but I wasn't raised in the church so I've never been an intimate part of the church family there.  Terry Crooks has been a preacher in Libby for a long time; he and a few families left to form a new group.  Kevin Fuchs and Jim Yates are couple of other recent preachers.

I am joining the game late I know, but I have to join the discussion to add a few words of support for the Yorkies that seem to be everywhere.

My daughter graduated from York in 2001 and is now in her 2d year of law school.  I must confess I was concerned how she well prepared she would be for law school after 4 years at a small [about 500 students now] school like York.  But she has done very well, top 10%.  I am not writing to brag [but I am very proud of her].  I am only writing to say York is a great place to get a good Chrisitan education, including preparation for graduate school.  It is also a bargain compared to other Chirstian schools.  But of course you Yorkies already knew that.

Alphageek

Hello all,

I've been lurking on the board for the past few days while I got the gumption to go ahead and introduce myself.  From what I've seen, the GCM board has many very active members who routinely show the love of Christ in their attitudes with one another (even those with whom they disagree).

My name is Steve Taylor and I live in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.  For the past three years or so I've been taking care of the website of the Dalton Gardens Church of Christ.  I've been a Christian for about thirteen years now (I was baptized while a student at York College in York, Nebraska).  My wife Kathy and I met while we were both students at York, and have been married for almost ten years.  We have two beautiful boys, one an active 3-year-old, the other a 'I-just-want-to-keep-up-with-my-brother' 8-month-old.

Kathy and I both majored in Education at York, and, after graduation, we both were hired to teach at the Coeur d'Alene Christian School, which is run out of the lower level at the Dalton church building.  Those years of teaching were tough in some ways, but they were a great time of spiritual growth for me.  It was a great blessing to be able to go to a workplace where each day started with a group prayer.  Teaching a Bible class and having chapel every day also aided in my spiritual growth.

After teaching for three years (and developing a love and talent for working on computers), I left the school to be a Full Time Computer Geek.  This was the best move for our family at the time, since we finally would have some of the benefits that a Christian school could not afford for its employees, like health insurance and retirement.  Teaching was never really a passion for me... I think I was reasonably good at it, and most of the students seemed to like me (except those darn middle-schoolers  ;) ), but I haven't regretted the move one bit.

I worked for a couple of years at a local computer service shop, then jumped at the opportunity for a computer tech job at North Idaho College, where I have been working for the past three and a half years.  I guess I earned the handle 'Alphageek' since I've been working at the college (something like the 'Alpha' male in the wolf pack).  I'd like to let you folks know that I'm open to brain-picking when it comes to computer stuff.  I don't work cheap, though - my help will cost you a prayer for my family.   :)

Let's see if I can find a pic...

Well, now you know everything...

In Him,
Steve

Welcome Steve!

Glad you decided to join us!  This has become one of the best boards on the web and it just keeps getting better.

Your family looks great!  We just had an addition to ours--my oldest daughter made me a grandfather last Wednesday--another girl!!!:inlove: Let's see--you have two fine looking boys--HMMMMM--about 18 years maybe they will show up at ACU--Hmmmm---  :D  You can find out about me, my family, and my 1st granddaughter (among many other things including opinions I have about one very hot CoC related issue) by going to http://www.clarksons.org.  I also am the web servant for our congregation, Granbury Church of Christ,  at http://www.granburycoc.org .  I am also in the computer business (and two way radio business) part time and that's a good thing because I keep giving away my work at material costs to my friends and brothers/sisters in Christ! (I'd starve if I had to do it full time the way I run a business :p ).  I like you method of charging for services!!!!!

Are there any good National Forest Campgrounds in your area of Idaho?  My wife and I are mountain campers preferring the very out of the way camp grounds during the summer (normally southern Colorado) but we sometimes go farther north!

I will be looking forward to hearing your views on many issues and topics in the future!  I just took a quick look at your church's web site!  I think we need to get together along the way!  It looks really greaT  BTW, I think it's warmer up than it has been down here in Texas :0

gbShorty

Welcome!  What a beautiful family!
Enjoyed your joke...we can always use humor on this board.  I heard one the other day about what Jesus would drive:  It was not an SUV but a Honda Accord....

cause everyone knows they were all in one Accord!  He He

Uh, Soap, are you sure you're still anonymous on this board after that post?

AG:  good website.  I'll add it to my favorites.

Barb, I don't see a link at the bottom of your posts.  But then I also don't see several of the avatars people mention.

Now... officially not.

Bob, hi! I'm about to hit the road to pick up hubby and then the 16 year old who's at his school after hours working on a play (he's stage managing) ... thus the "no log-in" ... to answer your question, I'm pretty much self-taught when it comes to doing web sites. I learned by doing and did read a couple of manuals along the way. That's about it. I flunked a computer course in college. lol I just love doing it and am near about obsessed with keeping our church's web site as uptodate as possible. It helps to have great people in the church office and others feeding me info!! (I do the web site from home; that surprises some people who think I work from the church office.)

Blessings Alphageek,

We were six years in Mason City Iowa, where my children were born, and I'm hoping that my children will go to York someday.  A few names from around York...Dale Burleson, who recently moved to Clear Lake, Iowa and Howard and Lois Mercier, retired preacher and wife.

Blessings,
Lauren

Does (or did) Libby have two Churches of Christ?  Sometime ago I knew a preacher there but can't think of his name right now?  I also spend a little time in Libby as my F.S. job took me there now & then.

Bill

nerdneh

Thanks Barb, Wiley, and Alphageek for the good information...obviously this is a tool (websites) that can ill afford to be neglected by the congregation that needs to tell their story.

Bill

Thanks Steve.  I know some of them when they lived in Missoula.

After York, I went to UT in Austin.  Talk about culture shock!  I had classes twice the size of the whole school. :0

  Greetings, Steve! What a lovely family you all make!
I'll have to go check out your church web site.  I'm webmaster of my church's web site (West End in Nashville), so we have that in common.  It's in the web site link that appears at the bottom of my posts.

Glad you're here!

WileyClarkson

Steve,

quick note before leaving for worship!

I've added you to the GCMF Photogallery on my web site.

Also to everyone:  I have also added Renee.

STEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello my fellow Yorkie!  Hello my old "Koinonia" pal!  I'm anonymous on this board (aka Son of a Preacher Man), which is true enough but I was a year ahead of you at York graduated in 1989.  I was Prez. of Koinonia and played baseball if that rings a bells... I remember your wife and can't believe what a beautiful family you have!  Wonderful.

Glad you're here.  This is a great place to share with/listen to other Christians.  I've grown a great deal since registering.  It's really good to have a fellow Yorkie on the board!  I haven't been back since graduation and haven't seen anybody I knew from there in almost three years.

Welcome.

SoaPMan

Barb1957

Steve, you crack me up.

marc, can you see at the bottom of each post, there are icons with links to things like email, AIM, web site ... different people's posts have different things, depending, I guess, on what they've made available via their profile. Not sure if they show up if the images/icons don't show. Wiley's web site link shows on his, and my church's shows on mine. I'm sure there are others.

Well met, Alphageek!  All that talk of fraternity-type stuff, I keep seeing "AlphaGreek"...

We were 8 years @ the Geneva Street Church in Sioux City, Iowa, and sent & received young members w/ York allatime.

And you do have a lovely family.

P.S. Renee:
I adore your glamorous head shot!

Uhoh... I'd rather you thought of me as "AlphaChrisitian" or "Alpha(somethingotherthangreek)".  :) :) :)

Wiley, I've been meaning to answer you...

Thank you for the kind words.  And congratulations to you!  I spose that the next best thing to parenthood is grandparenthood... and maybe the latter is actually more fun. ;)

Yes, it sounds like we have a lot in common.  Maybe I shouldn't call myself the 'Alpha'geek on this board.  :)  Sounds like your wife Linda also knows a thing or two about computers.

[!--QuoteBegin--][/span]

Quote

[!--QuoteEBegin--]Are there any good National Forest Campgrounds in your area of Idaho?
Yes, there are many campgrounds in north Idaho.  Of course, the further you get from town, the more secluded you can be.  Actually, I grew up in northwest Montana where my family preferred camping anywhere but in a National Forest campground.  The RV crowd usually frowned on anyone camping with a trailer full of dirt bikes.

WileyClarkson

Bob,

Most of us are self taught, learning from our mistakes.  There are some good HTML self teach manuals on the market if you wish to learn the "purest" way.  However, there are several good website building programs on the market.

I have two that are considered good values.

Microsoft FrontPage 2002 and DreamWeaver.

Dreamweaver has a rather steep learning curve so I pushed it asside.  It is an excellent program and the add-ons can make a web site do marvelous things.

I personally use FrontPage 2002.  It works and feels a whole lot like Microsoft Word XP (2002).  If you are familiar with Word, it is fairly easy to pickup and use.  The full version is available for apx $140 through various online dealers.  It is not as powerful as some of the higher priced software, but it works wonders for the price.  I use it for both my site and the Granburycoc.org site.

Alphageek

World shrinking... getting smaller... :)

Kathy and I went to school at York with two of Dale's kids  - I was pretty good friends with Brian, and Kathy waitressed at a local restaurant with Kristi.  Dale's wife (her name escapes me at this moment) worked for Kathy's dad in York for a while as his secretary.

I suppose that a lot you folks on this board have some people / things / places in common, but its pretty rare for an Idaho potatohead to make these kinds of connections with people half-way across the country.

Trois

Welcome Alphageek!

Glad you're here....

Alphageek

No I don't, but I did a quick search and found their website.  I don't know if you wondered if I knew the name of the preacher in Kalispell, or if I personally knew the preacher.  I guess I only know as much as Google... ;)

Barb1957

Looking at the Dalton Gardens site in another browser window. Gotta love a church web site that includes a "Joke of the Week"!
Too cool, man!

Welcome Steve & family.  Glad you are here.  How are things in north Idaho?  I used to live in Missoula and spent time on the Panhandle N.F.s with my work.

What's that supposed to mean???   :p

Yes, I remember you, but Kathy and I had to go back to the yearbook to remember the name.  We graduated from York the first time in '90, then returned from '92 to '94 for their new 4-year education program.  Kathy's dad still lives in York, so we've been back many times.  It's quite a drive from here, but that's part of the deal when you steal a midwest girl and move her to Idaho.

Having only recently entered into marriage and family, I think I'm astonished by any of my peers who've been at it a while. :D   Let me correct: YOU AND KATHY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!  No doubt about it!

I recently caught up with my "hazer" online. He made me eat a Mayo/Ice Cream cone.  I said, "Do you know I still can't eat Mayo!"  Privlidges of youth, I suppose.

Actually, I think I was in the deans office during most of the torture over the whole "Lambie-lip" kissing incident.  I remember being so against it, but when word reached the deans I was in BIG trouble.  I had to put my silver tongue at work to keep our club from being booted and spent countless hours with the deans that week.

'Twas the first of many sordid episodes that year that resulted in major hair loss... I mean... my hairline started retreating faster than the Iraqi Republican Gaurd!    More's the pity. :lookaround: I look more like this guy---- :(

Barb1957

Now that I'm back and logged in again ... Wiley gives some good advice.  You just have to look around and try things and see what works best for you. I use just Notepad some of the time and EditPlus which lets you code yourself what you know to but also helps -- colorizes the tags as you're using it, etc., so you see what's what ... and I also use it for "search/replace" operations that I couldn't do in just Notepad alone. I've just recently gotten into using style sheets, learning more about that. For the longest time I did not get them AT ALL, but recently it's started clicking more and I'm getting into them. I also use a validator program ... not as much as I *should* ... but it's good to run the old html files through it from time to time to help catch human errors in coding.  One of many good web sites out there that might be helpful is HTML Goodies. It's found at this address:

Terry Crook is the person I was thinking about.  I met him in the early 1980's.  Been gone from Montana for 12 years.

Not that good to have 2 CoCs in a town the size of Libby.  However, IMO it is not always bad if the two churches can be Christ like to one another.  It gives some options to those who prefer a CoC but are more comfortable with a conservative or less conservative congregation.

You don't by any chance know the CoC preacher in Kalispel?
