That is such a typical "guy" response.   ;)   While I truly enjoy college hoops, I don't think the tourney should proceed as usual.  I understand the money that is at stake and the many hours of preperation by the althletes and their coaches.  I also understand the importance of attempting to live life as routinely as possible (should war begin).  BUT, I am thinking of the players who have friends that have been shipped out - will they be able to play their best game if they are worried about their best friend from high school?  And, what about the families of the military who find it insensitive to play games while their child is risking their life overseas?  I know, I know...., I have just given a typical emotional "girly" response.

Truth be known, I will enjoy watching the tourney (even if I don't agree).  It will be nice break from Fox News and CNN.

I tend to think the tourney should go on too.  It seems to me that that is what the terror types want, to disrupt the way of life we have.  However, I can see the point of those who would cancel too.  Its one of those situations where there is no good answer.

During World War II the government strongly encouraged the pro sports to carry on.

Despite the legend, most college football games were played as scheduled after Sept 11. While all of Division I-A cancelled their games, most of I-AA, Division II and Division III played on.

Don't play out of respect for the troops? I don't get it. Does that mean I shouldn't take the kids to a movie or let them watch videos or tune into some non-news program?

Sports are entertainment and unless all other forms of entertainment shut down why should sports?

No.

Here's a question.  If America and its allies invades Iraq this weekend, should the NCAA delay it's first weekend of the tourney?

I think the tournament should go on.

Kevin,

I have mixed feelings about the tournament going ahead on schedule, and I'm a March Madness crazy!

On the one hand, out of respect for our troops, I would rather they wait a few days.

On the other hand, there is much talk of the need to continue with life as usual, whatever that may mean to each person.

Logistically, I think it would be a near impossibility for the NCAA to change anything at this point, as the arenas being used are already booked for so many other things.

By the way, 4 of us have entered the ESPN challenge (you, me, Rocketman, and dgdodd).  If anyone else has an interest, please join in.  It won't erase what is about to happen with Iraq, but it would be nice camaradire for fellow board members.

Regardless, my prayers are centered now on what is about to happen in the Middle East.

No.  The games should go on. Won't keep us from praying, amen?

After reading some of the comments here (Ark, your's really resonated well with me), I'm glad the tournament, and the rest of life, will go on as planned.

I will be in much prayer (and have been) for what is happening in Iraq, but am also thankful that there are still things going on around me that remind me not to be consumed by just one thing (save the cause of Christ!).

And thanks to Samloveall for joining the tournament challenge.  Others that wish to have until the first game tips off today.  For now, 5 of us on the GCM board will battle for the position of top basketball prognosticator (TBP!).

May God bring peace and a swift end to the hostilities.  May innocent lives be spared!
