Janine, now that is just sick....before breakfast too.

Em :p

Perhaps, if they belonged anywhere, it would be the abortion-related one on the political forum.

At least, when I started the thread, I put on an appropriately descriptive title.

Coarse jesting?  Possibility... although any humor too tacky for anyone would be, in English, 'coarse jesting', to him.  That will be a worthwhile word study for me.

Re: the various issues that tie into both jokes...

*the idea that your & my tax dollars are paying every day for the slaughter of innocent human beings, little ones the most like our perfect Pre-Fall selves...

*the bland acceptance by so many around us that it is OK to move heaven and earth to protect, say, a bald eagle, and severely punish someone who would abuse one or injure the eggs of one, vs. the similar bland acceptance that it is somehow acceptable to poison or burn or pull apart at the joints or suck the brains out of our own human babies, made in the image of God...

*the sadness of the evil that gets done wearing the robes of religion...

*the ineptitude of a Justice Dept. that allowed a cult leader to keep his harem on the dole, living off of your and my tax dollars, supposedly stockpiling arms and abusing little ones, but did nothing about it over months of time when these people were available for pickup in town... no, let's set them up for a seige, where any miscalculation by our troops or by their members can lead to tragedy...

*and the horrible waste of the life of Jeffrey Dahmer, of the lives of his victims, and the glimmer of hope against hope for the most degenerate and evil-sick among us, when we consider whether his jailhouse conversion was sincere...

I'd say these concepts are some that made me 'keep' these jokes.  Sorry it took so many words to express what I bear in mind about them.

I didn't post them for you, readers, to adore them or approve of them or think them cute and (necessarily) pass them on to anyone.  One reason I did post them was to provoke thought.  I pray they provoked more thought than a disdainful mental lifting aside of your the skirts as you 'passed by'.

(p.s.: make sure & report to Lee how such awful material doesn't belong here.)

janine

Is there some other word I could use, besides "joke", which likely implies to most folks "fun featherheaded humor"?

Maybe "riddle"?

I don't know.  Make suggestions, pdwblw, it will be helpful if I can "file" the old things under a more accurate heading than "jokes".

Sometimes, I need to either get a crooked grin out of something, or I need to fall on the floor and cry about it... and today, to rephrase the old spiritual, I "ain't got time to cry..."

OldDad

pdwblw,

Knew when I mashed that "add reply" button that my post could be taken as an attack.  And for that I apologize.  I certainly didn't mean to imply you were being pharisaical.  I didn't agree with your assessment, but I thought you were sincere.  I was really responding to Janine's obvious frustration with being misunderstood for trying to channel her outrage humorously.

Friends?

OD

I'm with pdwdlw.  I don't think I'm humorless and I try not to be pharasiacal, but I can't imagine Jesus would post such jokes.  I think those jokes themselves are judgmental.

I've known too many real people who have faced unwanted pregnancies to make blanket judgements about them.  And since I'm not available to care for preganant women and their children and I don't feel I can adopt unwanted children, I cannot sit in judgement on any of them.  I also cannot blame abortions on one or two political leaders.   Nor can I fault the judgement of the leaders whose judgment about the Branch Davidians may have been flawed.  Ultimately, David Koresh is responsible for those deaths.  But God has not asked me to judge those people either.  To enjoy freedom in America is to allow people to make poor choices for themselves.

Wow, Janine, I'm sure you didn't mean to rile me up!  Everyone has a different idea of funny.  Yours & mine are definitely different.

mike

janine,

I agree. While it is not our place to sit in judgment over any particular individual (God needs no help doing this), we still may make judgments regarding sin. In fact, I think that is one of the obligations of Christians. Those with the spiritual gift of prophecy, in particular, can't seem to help it.

Nearly all the time, abortion is just wrong. I have only adopted and raised two children that might otherwise have been aborted, so I can't speak for the millions who have been aborted. However, my kids are terrific, and it would have been a horrible travesty if they had been killed before even knowing life and the Author of life.

:D

Beverly Nuckols,

I looked at your picture in your profile and must say you are one good looking lady!

Janine did not offend me in anyway and I do not understand why someone else was.

As the mother of a 25 year old son and a 20 year old daughter (and even as a happy wife of 28 years) it's very flattering to hear that.

But, pretty is as pretty does. I hope I qualify that way.[/quote]
Whoa,

I thought you may be 30 at the most.  You sure had me fooled!

janine

B.H. reminded me of two old jokes I loved in their day... I love good groaners, puns, stuff I probably ought to be too high-minded to enjoy, but, well, that's my guilty secret.

I figured I'd better share them before they're too antique to understand.

One I made up, & the other I heard from a morning newspaper sportswriter (which means a lot of late nights filled with fatigue and adrenaline).

What do you call the pitiful, bloody bits left over after a government-funded Planned Parenthood abortion?

Clinton Gore

***

Mad DNA researchers have created a human clone, a dangerously charismatic fellow, using genetic material from David Koresh and Jeffrey Dahmer.  What's the name of this guy's new cult?

The Brunch Davidian

Ahhh, that felt good to share with discerning people such as yourselves.

Direct any irate fussings to B.H.  It's all his fault that I remembered them... :D  :p  :0  :D

janine

I was up by 5 a.m., thus I had time to eat before I had to dwell on them long enough to remember them correctly.  Then I trotted off to aerobics like a good girl.

(Hear my joints creaking from patting myself on the back, oh virtuous me, 'cause I was up early?

Of course, the fact that I'm here typing instead of at the tire shop where I ought to be, to beat the traditional afternoon summer thunderstorm,  probably loses me any points I earned for early rising...) ;)

pdwblw

Sorry to be a killjoy with all the fun you're having, but those "jokes" were really inappropriate and distateful.  Perhaps they could be considered course jesting.  I don't really think they belong on this or any other forum.  I usually enjoy this forum but those were too much for me.

pdwblw

It makes me wonder even more why you posted the jokes.  You obviously feel strongly about the issues and to make them into a "joke" puzzles me.  However, it is not for me to figure everyone out.  WHEW! what a relief.  Thanks for the reply.  May the Lord bless you

OldDad

Janine,

The best humor works both ways, funny and thought provoking.  Your "Two Horribly Old Shameful Jokes" (did I say that right?  :D ) work on both levels.

Please don't sweat the humorless or the easily offended.  They were the ones who criticized Jesus as a "friend of sinners."

OD

pdwblw

Yikes! was that judgement directed at me Old Dad?  I am not humorless although I could be categorized as easily offended.  I was just giving my opinion in a strong judgemental way.  Oh, now I get it.  Thanks Old Dad.

pdwblw

Old Dad,
Friends.   While I still feel the jokes were inappropriate I was being judgemental.  Thanks for helping me see that.
:)

janine

Please do register, Ann.

I did, absolutely, intend to launch something scathing against those who deserve a kick in the figurative fanny.

If the kick fits, receive it.

Some people do, sometimes, in their personal lives or their public service lives or their lives as leaders, make rotten decisions, so sinfully stupidly rotten that they themselves and others get hurt.

This is not always the result of some unfortunate downtrodden victim feeling trapped between a rock and a hard place.  Sometimes, to quote Garrison Keillor, it's just due to rottenness!

Of course I'm not the judge.  Only One can 'pass judgement', as in pass sentence or condemn, and I ain't Him.  But, I can and will fight whatever injustices I can get my hands on, in whatever way I can, as long as I can, until I die.

I have at various times made myself available to raise unwanted, hurting children, and to help out disadvantaged young mothers, and to advocate for the rape survivors, and to counsel the battered wives.

But, that isn't what gives me the right to voice my opinion about right and wrong.  Even if you never think of yourself as able to help anybody, that doesn't excuse you from the thoughtful life you ought to be living, and the thinking you ought to be doing about the issues that shape our world, in light of the Scriptures.

Beverly Nuckols (hocndoc)

Janine,
I don't like "sick humor" either - but I love puns. The juxtaposition of one meaning with the other just won't let our minds rest.
So, someone thinks you goofed. OOOPs! (Now go play and forget it)

BTW, I couldn't help see one of your points that  looks like my regular  e-mail signature .

"Beverly Nuckols [a href=\"mailto:hocndoc@flash.net\"]hocndoc@flash.net[/a]
Crack the egg of a bird on the Endangered Species list and you'll find
that it doesn't matter that the bird  embryo or fetus can't survive
outside the egg. You've still broken the Endangered Species Act.
Rights are meaningless if society can decide who is a person and who is
not, and the "non-persons" can be killed on demand by the persons."

It bugs pro-abortion people, but only a few can complain that it's too political or accuse me of religious bias. It took a few re-writes to finally pass muster on the Libertarians for Life list that I belong to. I think it's tweaked to perfection. I'm still trying to figure out why it's okay to "Save the Whales" but not okay to "Choose Life" for  humans.

Beverly Nuckols (hocndoc)

Well, thank you, BH. As the mother of a 25 year old son and a 20 year old daughter (and even as a happy wife of 28 years) it's very flattering to hear that.

But, pretty is as pretty does. I hope I qualify that way.
