I have been to Bible Camp with some people from your area and there is also a  minister who regularly preaches,  where my mom worships, from your area.  I wonder if we know any of the same people.

Let's see... I'm unhappy with the "houses" of both major political parties, both the "old paths" and the "new escalator" irritate me, I know one college-age Christian girl who loves hockey, and we've got a lovely "Camp" at Angola here in Louisiana (the activities are a little different there than at Angola, Indiana, I'll wager).

Welcome Jim! Glad you're posting more regularly...look forward to seeing your writing. I have had the honor of being on the Lake Geneva, WI program each year since 1980, and a whole lot of my Michigan friends show up for that. You may know Vernon Boyd, one of the great influences for Christ in the Detroit area, and now recovering from a serious health problem. Vernon and Alice always bring a goodly collection of Michigan folks. Think about putting the Lake Geneva encampment on your 2003 schedule...you will love the people who gather there!  (Time: First full week in August of every year at Williams Bay, WI)

In retrospect, I realize that I probably should intro myself. I originally joined GCM a year ago, but I don't recall giving an intro at that time. Then for quite awhile I only occasionally checked in. Now that I find myself here on a regular basis, I guess I should share some info.
My wife, son and I live in southeast Michigan (which accounts for the Red Wing holding the Stanley Cup logo). We are members of a smallish, @120, CoC. I help out regularly as a song leader (accapella), teen teacher and assigning men's worship duties. The congregation is very "old paths" which at times is uncomfortable for us, but they are very loving people and are "family".
I like movies and some TV. I'm also a child of the '60s (my son takes great amusement from the idea that Dad was a hippie, lol). And while I have distanced myself from several of my former  Democrat opinions, I still can't embrace the Republicans and consequently echo Mercutio's "A pox on both your houses!"
Reading has always been a favourite pastime and thanks to Bobby V. I always seem to have half a dozen more books that I "need" to read....long ago gave up on the idea of ever catching up on that assignment, lol.
OK...there's a thumbnail sketch....which is nice, because if it were longer I would feel compelled to start listing my faults,  :0

Welcome to GCM.  Not much of a hockey fan, but I love Nascar and sometimes fights breakout there as well.

Good to have you here.  By the way, are you the Jim Abbott who used to pitch for the Anaheim Angels (I love baseball too).

I think so!  I was only there one summer - 1995, although, my mom and step-dad have been there more.  If you go to camp with Ben Vick, that is the place   :D   Let me know.....

dg.....I can't say I remember a Ben Vick, but there are about 5 different sessions and I only go to the one directed by our congregation's minister, James Barnes.

Be carefull--this place is really addicting!  It gets worse as time goes on.  You get to where you have to have your GCM Board "fix" or your your day is just not right!

Thanks Wiley.....I know what you mean. I used to always read, and post some, on the old Gospel Advocate message board until they shut it down. I'm quite sure I'll get addicted to this crazy place. BTW, I really appreciate the site on women's roles. :clap:
