How about this?

While you are reading some of our articles, you might need a tasty beverage.  Let Coors Light satisfy your thirst!

Good one Charlie!  I won't take you up on the bet, because I think you're right!

I can see how pop-up ads for some of those things might appear from time to time (they have here in the past), I just wonder what happened to put something like that at the end of an email.

Maybe someone (Lee, our intrepid admin?) with more technical knowledge than I have, can explain how something like that would unintentionally get into an email.

Have a great day all!

I had a similar thing happen on one of my sites. I had launched a tirade on sports betting on college athletics (easier to fix because the players tend be short of cash) just as my ad provider put a sports book operation in heavy rotation.  :frowning:

Great.  Now I find out this wasn't intentional.  I thought it was a sign from above and bet my life savings on Tampa Bay! :saint:

Times like this I'm glad my life savings is only thirty-seven cents.

Good morning everyone!

This morning in my email was the Grace-Centered Newsletter - I had forgotten that I had even signed up for this - it has been such a long time since I received one.

The newsletter was fine, and did have some good information in it - I was especially glad to see the announcement that Bob Hendren (nerdeh) will be writing articles for GCM - I'm looking forward to that.

Anyway, I finished reading the newsletter, glad to have seen it, when I looked at the bottom and saw this:

Super Bowl XXXVII is coming FAST!
Get your piece of the CASH pie!
Visit the address below:

And it was followed by a URL that basically takes you to a web-site that promotes sports betting (gambling  :0 !).

It just struck me as a little odd that an email from a Christian web-site would have at the bottom an advertisement (it's what it really is) that promoted what many view as an un-Christian activity.

I don't know everyone's position on gambling (I'm not sure I even know my own!), but don't you think it might have been best to leave this little link off the email?  I look at it the same way as if it had been an ad for Miller Light or Coors or Bud, etc. - drinking beer, gambling, some of these types of activities that some can do with a clear conscience, but many cannot do, are they really things we want at the end of a GCM email?

I'm curious for other thoughts - not trying to nit-pick - it just struck me as odd.

Have a blessed day in Him!

I'll bet you ten bucks and a case of MGD that the address on the end of the email was unintentional.

That means, I'm broke and had to use a freebie email list service. I didn't realize they would do that though  . I may have to do something totally different. But don't know what.

Lee, one option might be for you to place a disclaimer on those emails, stating that the ads are placed there by the email list service and you have no control over them. Also, if you contact the service provider and request that certain types of ads not be placed in emails you send out -- request something like "no gambling, family-friendly" -- they might be able to accommodate you. I'm not sure about that but worth a try!
