The day they start teaching the regular MD's about the interconnectedness of all (or at least most :D ) things, is the day I'll feel much more trust toward the medical professionals.

My son began continual ear infections at four months (ten days on anti-biotics, three days off, ear infection returns.  Repeat.

He had tubes at nine months, which got rid of the infections, but he still had some problems with fluid.

Our pediatrician, who's an MD but quite holistic, tried a manipulation technique that helped.  I can't recall the name, but I think it was OCM?  It sounds similar.  I'm glad it worked for you.

It often makes me sad my kids are growing up so fast, but I sure don't miss the every-other-week-at-the-pediatrician years!

Maybe a little off topic here, but how do select a qualified, reputable chiropractor?
I worry about people manipulating my spine when the spinal cord runs through it.
But my wife suffers from chronic debilitating neck pain and we may be open to trying anything as long as we are comfortable it won't make the situation worse.

Mike's mother and his oldest half-brother were chiropractors when they first came to Louisiana.  That was before it was legal here.  They didn't keep their licenses up.

Result is, however, that I have a husband who has taught us how to walk on his back, and who picks us up in a modified Nelson hold, drops us a little, and causes our spines to realign.  Crackle crackle crackle.  Muscle spasms and sciatica-like pains disappear after that.  No pain killer pills, just the hands of Daddy.

He also has learned to relieve his headaches (11 years of football will do that to you) by relaxing his neck & shoulders & turning his head at different angles; how the joints pop!

We've been married 22 years & no one is paralyzed yet, so I suppose he knows what he's doing.

Since one of my best friends is a chiropractor and has served on the board of Palmer College as well as president of the board and was selected by the governor of California (Jerry Brown) to oversee the state board of Chiropractic, I have many, many wonderful stories about chiropractic.

Chiropractic cannot solve every problem, but when applied preventively along with good nutrition and cooperation with conventional and complimentary medicine -- like a good herbalist and acupuncturist) -- you can enjoy the maximum health which God designed you to enjoy!

Lee, I am overjoyed that your child is free of ear problems. Keep him in a good preventative chiropractic program! My son came to us too late. He was three years old and had been through 2 sets of tubes aned had been on antibiotics since he was 7 mos. old. He was placed in our arms on a 6 month as a ward of the state for a probationary period and with a court ordered tonsilectomy and adnoidectomy. We were forced to comply. It was the most difficult thing I have ever done, because I not only had to comply, but keep silent about alternative medicine. I was afraid that the doctors would report me for noncompliance and then we would not be able to adopt him. I believe that the health problems he has today are a result of bad medical care when he was so little.

Lee, get your political bones in action! Speak out for more cooperation between conventional and alternative care physicians! Yes, oversight is necessary ... there ARE quacks out there in both alternative and conventional ... but we need open eyes to what can be accomplished.

Oh yeah,

Forgot to reply to patricia's politics statement. I agree, Americans should have more freedom to decide for themselves what treatment is best. Also, Modern Medicine should be less funded by the government and preventative health should be focused on more.

My conservative, Republican beliefs mean that I think the government should stay out of our lives as much as possible. Therefore, we should be able to choose our own doctors and be given a choice to refuse vaccines and immunizations if we choose. That stuff is just trash. I haven't had a flu shot in 6 years (after I turned 18, I could make my own decisions :-) ).

Hi posters,

I don't know how many here have small children, but I do. About 8 months ago we begin noticing recoccuring ear infections in our then 9-month-old.

We started seeing a new chiropractor because of our move from Augusta to Nashville. He asked us about Jacob's sleeping habits, which is when we told him about Jacob's ear infections. He nearly flipped when we told him that a medical doctor had Jacob on antibiotics. The doc had him on a third level of antibiotics because the infection would not go away. The chiropractor adjusted him twice that weekend. From day one, Jacob slept all night and has not had ear trouble after that day.

I took him to his medical doc about a month ago and the doctor looked in his ears. He commented on how clear they were. \"When did they clear up?\" he asked. I told him we had taken Jacob to a chiropractor and that it had cleared up that very day. He then said, \"I have so many patients who take their children to chiropractors for ear infections with the same results. They are going to put me out of business!\" He then begin wandering outloud, \"Why don't they teach us that in medical school?\" With a bit of a smile I told him it would take another 6-8 years to learn all that.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Lee:  That's interesting!  My youngest struggled with ear infections for years.  We went thru rounds and rounds of antibiotics and motrin.  Our pediatrician didn't recommend ear tubes.  We also swim so much..I didn't think I could keep his ears dry.  He even had some hearing damage after he stated school, but it was temporary.  He's twelve now and grew out of it many years ago.  I feel for you on this.  If the Chiropractor helps, that sounds like a wonderful solution.  I wonder if it helps the ear drain?
Sweet picture of you'll,  Shorty

There was a time that I did not believe in chiropractors.  That was before I went to one.  I now have a different opinion.  Everyone needs one in their cadre of health care specialists.

Lee, our grandson has had some ear infection problems and yes a chiropratic treatment helped.

Richard, What an ironic topic...I am a chiropractic assistant. Yes and I see this all the time..adults [and adults for children] searching the medical route to find answers and when they find a good chiropractor, they can't figure out why they never heard this before. If I were you I would ask around about finding a good D.C. Richard, and look for one who may use Applied Kinesiology [AK] in the phone book. This type of method is working with the muscles as well as the structure of the body. That is the basis of holding the spine in place, makes sense, doesn't it? Good luck in your search! I have seen amazing success in my job! Awesome!   Memmy

Richard, I would ask your friends to see if they have one.  If they don't call a Chiropractor and ask him/her for references and then check with them.

I guess probably you would go about finding one just like you do an M.D., D.O., Optometrist or Dentist.  Chiropractors are licensed just as other healthcare people are.

I just started seeing a chiropractor a couple of weeks ago. Just before our move, I had 2 short episodes of back pain that resolved themselves, then after we got here, it started again and did not go away.  A trip to the base clinic resulted in a diagnosis of a sacroiliac joint problem.  The doc said he'd send me to the chiropractor if I were active duty (it's not covered for dependents).  I gave it about a week and then made an appointment.  We are making progress... slow and sure.

Now, what I wouldn't give for a great back massage!!

Hey all,

I am the poster boy for alternative health. Minerals, vitamins, juicing, and chiropractors--that's the road to actual health. MD's just treat symptoms.

I haven't been to a doctor in almost 3 years. And that trip three years ago was because my mother-in-law made an appointment for me just as a \"check up.\"

My chiropractor's children (who are now 16 and 18) have never had antibiotics. They haven't needed them. I know people who go to chiropractors for everything--colds, stomach trouble, etc. That is my philosophy as well.

I especially hate antibiotics. Nothing is worse for your body. Antibiotics are a lot like chemotherapy. They are going to kill something--the doctors just hope it's not you first. In either case, your body is wounded.

My mother, who has always made me go to the doctor (just like many traditional mothers who love their children and want to do what is considered best). When my mother was 25 or so, she had a hysterectomy (Even the American Medical Association says that over 70 percent of hysterectomies are not necessary).

Because of the hysterectomy she experienced, she began menopause at age 30. She has struggled with the symptoms of this until about 2 years ago when she began taking colloidal minerals. One weekend she went on a church retreat and forgot her hormone replacement. Turns out she didn't need it after half a year of taking minerals. To this day she does not have hot flashes, headaches, and other stuff associated with menopause.

Chiropractors for my spine and neck alignment and minerals to keep my body working as God programmed. That's my philosophy. :thumbs-up:

I will end with quoting Two time Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling: \"You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency\"

Except when Mom-in-law sets up a doctor visit.  ;)
