Luk_1:35  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Joh 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

NIMROD!      What does the word "Echad" mean?

3 Resurrections

A question well worth looking up to find out.  "Echad" apparently means one in solidarity and unity - NOT one in numerical value.  "...the LORD our God is ONE (echad)..."  This is good information for those having to deal with those who deny the Trinity of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  These three are "ONE" in unity.

New question:  Why was it absolutely critical that Jesus ride into Jerusalem on an ass that had never been ridden before by anyone else?

3 Resurrections

Okay,  looks as if we don't have any answers forthcoming on this one.  In honor of today's Resurrection Day celebration, I'll pass on what I believe is the answer to this - in my usual long-winded style.

Everyone is familiar with the account of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on an ass, with the disciples' garments draped over it for Christ to sit upon.  It was a fulfillment of the Old Testament Zechariah 9:9 prophecy, down to the last detail.

We have to go back to the Old Testament to understand Christ's intended purpose for using an ass that had never been ridden before.  In I Kings 1:32-35, when an aged King David wished to make known to all Israel that his son Solomon, (not Adonijah), was the favored choice to be set over the kingdom, he gave the command to put Solomon on King David's own mule, dress him in the robes of state for the occasion, and send Solomon to Gihon (the Temple's true location) to be anointed King of Israel.  The transference of power from David over to Solomon was made very evident by this public display of King David's own mule being used for the occasion.

Even the wicked Haman in Esther 6:7-9 understood the significance of using King Ahasuerus' own mount, combined with the temporary distinction of wearing King Ahasuerus' own robes in a street procession: the dignity and honor of the kingdom was thus transferred, even if only temporarily, to the one being honored.

In Christ's case, though, it was quite different.  His kingdom was not "OF this world" (John 18:36).  In other words, all the dignity, honor, and prestige of Christ's kingdom originated solely from Himself - NONE of it was transferred from a PRECEDING monarch.  As Christ Himself explained it, "I receive not honor from men...I am come in my Father's name..." (John 5:41-42b).

The Zechariah prophecy of the daughter of Zion's king coming unto her was going to be fulfilled by the One who would launch an entirely NEW covenant of the kingdom of heaven - not a kingdom that derived its right to rule from a previous king.

This is the implication behind Christ selecting an ass that had never before had another rider sitting on its back: His kingdom would not derive its power from a preceding kingdom - it would be a kingdom with Christ Himself as the original founder.  Christ would not be a successor to any human monarch, and thus He would not be indebted to mankind for His right to sit and rule upon His throne.

Let's see...another new question...

When the shepherds went to Bethlehem the night Christ was born, what were the three things that they would find in the manger?
