This was a good question and the answer is found in 1Kings 19:4
1 Kings 19:4
But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, "It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!

Excommunicated

I believe that would be Rameses or Rameses the II.

Who would be the first martyr of the Bible?

Wycliffes_Shillelagh

Of the Bible?

Traditionally the first of the martyrs is accounted to be Stephen, who was stoned.

However, Jesus is the True and Faithful Witness, and died before Stephen.  "Witness" and "martyr" are the same word.

And that doesn't even touch on all the OT guys who were offed because of what they said.

I am wondering what answer CS has in mind.  I did an online seach and found more or less the same info as W_S with the addition of John the Baptist who would have been before Stephen and Jesus.  That doesn't even take into account those "OT guys."

It is Jesus, who was "'The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."  Revelation 13:8.

Of whom was God speaking when He said... "Man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart"?

and who did He say it to?

This one is so easy!

He said it to Samuel when he went to Bethlehem to anoint the new king of Israel.  My gut reaction was that it was said about young David, the shepherd.  But it was actually spoken regarding David's brother, Eliab, when Samuel saw him and thought he must be the one God had chosen.  (I Samuel 16:7)

What is the longest chapter in the Bible?  And what is it's theme?

Psalm 119.  It is all about David's delight in the law of the Lord.

What is the shortest book of the Bible?

Angel777

Second John.

What book and chapter does it talk about to submit to your spouse?

God Bless!

Does Jesus hate any doctrines?

Ewigkeit

Indeed he does!  In Rev. 3 we learn that he hates the doctrine of the Nicolaitans.

Where do we read that Jesus "blew his stack" and attacked certain people?

I believe that would have been during a visit to the temple on passover, commonly referred to afterwards as "the cleansing of the temple" (cf. Mat 21:12-13) I especially like the picture in the very next verse: "And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them." The picture of God coming to earth as Jesus and healing the sick in the temple seems incredibly meaningful to me, just in a way I can't easily put into words.

Is there going to come a time when the whole world will be deceived?

Ewigkeit

A pre-trib man like myself would say that will happen when the church has been raptured and the tribulation period begins.  At that time the beast and the false prophet will deceive all nations.

What three Bible books, when mentioned one after the other, would make up a perfect newspaper headline?

Charles Sloan

Quote from: Ewigkeit on Thu Apr 24, 2008 - 20:09:49What three Bible books, when mentioned one after the other, would make up a perfect newspaper headline?

Right now I think that would be "JOB NUMBERS, LAMENTATIONS!"

Who would be the prophet that was sawn asunder? (cf. Hbr 11:37)

Ewigkeit

That would be Jeremiah.

As for the three books that make up a headline, I should have said they actually come in that order in the Bible.  They are Joshua Judges Ruth.

Who compared some people to waves of the sea, foaming out their shame?

kensington

That would be Jude 1:13  "wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam; wandering stars, for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever."   NASB

Daniel prayed for his people. Daily he prayed for them. From where did his answer come.  How did it arrive?

Ewigkeit

At the moment I don't recall where he came from; however, Michael the prince (archangel) came to bring the answer to Daniel's prayers.  He took three weeks getting there because he was "withstood" by the Prince of Persia.

As whom did the Christ appear to Joshua?

Who was smothered with a wet blanket, and by whom?

When did Moses actually get into the promised land?

Wycliffes_Shillelagh

Moses didn't get into the promised land.  He died on Mt. Nebo.

Ewigkeit

You're absolutely right; but you are forgetting something: Moses and Elijah met with Jesus on the "Mount of Transfiguration," so technically, Moses did enter the land, although he had to wait till the New Testament era to get there.

King Ben-Hadad, by Hazael ... He killed him and took the throne.

II Kings 8:15

Ewigkeit

It is interesting to note that even in a generally unbelieving generation, the term "wet blanket" is still commonly used to denote the stifling of ideas and aspirations.

When did Jesus spit in a man's eyes?

When He was curing someone of blindness.

You're quite correct; but can you cite book, chapter and verse?

Ewigkeit

The Mosaic Law (Torah) specifies that if a son were incorigably rebellious, the parents should bring him to the elders at the gate of the city and there present him as unruly and rebellious, whereupon the son was sentenced to death, and the parents were first to throw stones at him.  Can you find anuy ins4tances in the scriptures where this was actually done?

Ewigkeit

Name two chapters in the Bible which are verbatim...one ant the same text.

Ewigkeit

Where in the Bible do you find tongues that walk?

Actually, I believe that Mt Nebo WAS the Mount of Transfiguration.

2 Kings 19 and Isaiah 37....which I guess proves that one or the other was pieced together from pre-existing material.
