I feel as though I am being talked down to...

Were not doing this to put you down broach. Your perceiving it the wrong way. This isn't about judging you. But there are some who want the truth to come out about false gospels. All that info at Jack Chick's website simply exposes the falsities and corruption within the RCC. Have yuo even read the story from former jesuit priest Alberto Rivera and what he exposes about the RCC? Since he's been in the catholic system and was a jesuit priest, he knows what goes on. He knows how corrupt the RCC's leadership truly is.

J Man, you just proved my point.  What a hypocrite.

Broach, I read J Man's comment and, speaking as a moderator, it didn't seem he was putting your down at all.  We are all here to help each other grow.  I have grown in some areas, others have grown in different areas as we have seen the truth presented in novel ways.  We all need to be open to the fact that we may not have our doctrine 100% right - because none of us do.  When someone shakes the foundation we are standing on we need to inspect the foundation to see if it is a true foundation and will support us.  If so, we can continue standing there withour fear.  If it will not support us, we need to consider either shoring up the foundation or bulldozing it and allowing God to construct another one under our feet.  This is a life long process for all of us.

Spurly, I respectfully disagree with our assessment.  I have a very solid foundation, and believe me, it hasn't been shaken.  I have no problem debating the differences between the major groups within the Christian faith.  You are right, I have certainly grown and it has only strengthened my faith.

However, I do have a problem when members speak half-truths, distort beliefs, and just plain lie.  I have yet to refer to my Protestant brothers and sisters as "anti-Christ," "anti-gospel," or un-Christian, which I think the rules (if I read them correctly) prohibit.  I haven't even said that they believe in false doctrines and beliefs.  We can all agree to disagree, but the mudslinging has got to end.  What bothers me is the perception that only the Catholic Church has experienced corruption and scandals.  Give me a break.  Have there been abuses, absolutely.  Are Catholics perfect, absolutely not.  Are there bad Catholics, you better believe it.  But don't generalize and paint the entire Church or even Catholics as being corrupt and abusive.  I know some pretty good and committed priests who have dedicated their lives to God.

Matthew 9:6 "But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, "

Sins are forgiven by Jesus right here on earth. He has been given that power. There is no need for anything such as a purgatory if you are a blood bought believer in Jesus Christ... He did it all, right here on earth for you.

There will be no waiting in the "pre-Heaven" oven before you are good enough to get in to Heaven. You never were good enough. It's only by the blood to begin with that you have any hope. There is no purgatory... The Living God doesn't need one. He has the Lamb's book of Life and you are either in it or you aren't.

saved

can we get back to doctrinal differences, rather than name calling?

the leaders or members from all the sects of our faith have at one point or another committed some travesty against mankind.

and in the name of god, no less.

the lutherans, calvinists, and the other reformers of northern europe have a bloody history of anti-semitism.

in the old south, the baptists, church of christs, and pentecostals sat idly as the klu klux klan would march in full regalia down the center aisles of their church, and drop an offering in the bucket.

yes the roman catholic church has a long history of bloodshed and sins, but don't we all.

(could a defender of the catholic faith please comment on my views from posts#121 & #122) ---and maybe we could get back to the topic at hand.

J Man, you just proved my point.  What a hypocrite.

Ah, but your the one who resorts to personal attacks and that is truly hypocrasy!!! Since this is a discussion board forum, I have the right to speak my point of view without your hostile insults and personal attacks. You have the right to disagree, but who are you to bash me and talk down to me? What kind of christianity is that when you resort to personal attacks??? I am not going to compromise the truth because it offends others. Yes, many will "HATE" my guts for it(including many professed christians), but I will still stand for the truth.

Concerning the RCC, how dispicable of them the pope and others who run the RCC to turn a blind eye to all those  priests who are molesting little chldren right in the church. They are supposed to be of God and they sit back and allow that to go on????? And of those priests who are doing that, how many people end up damaged and wounded by these hypocrite priests who have molested them! These priests are supposed to represetn the Lord and turh around and violate them like that. That's pathetic.  And that is outright hypocrasy for those priests to molest little children than call themselves of God.

If you want to continue supporting the RCC go right ahead. Nobody on here is bashig you, nobody on here has said anyhting to put you down for it, that is just the way you perceive it. But because of all those nonsense that goes on in the RCC, I will continue to stand against it whethere anyone likes it or not. As long as my posts are not objecting to the rules of this forum, I have every right to post it.

kensington

I am so grieved over the light excuse that is always given for the "molesting" in the RCC...

"Yes, there is sin, but we are dealing with it"... HUH? WHAT? HUH?   ::doh::  ::doh::

That is not sin, that is an ABOMINATION, to molest the children. To use them for sex toys, before a Holy God, in the covering of the robe of a priest?  That is some Sodom and Gomorrah junk!!  Fire and BRIMSTONE baby!

But, that is just my humble opinion.

I know of a Church of Christ congregation where the minister was discovered to have had a homosexual encounter at a gas station bathroom. His wife left, and the elders tried their best to deal with the situation with grace. I mean, what do you do? This man was a servant of the church, but also a fellow member needing counsel. Needing a friend. Needing discipleship. You know. A sinner in need of grace.

Should they rather have tarred and feathered the man for this abomination? Were they corrupt for not riding him out on a rail? Or should they simply have let him confess his sin and go right on preaching? Does this and other similar incidents mean that the Church of Christ is corrupt and despicable?

No matter what you do, some will say you went too far and others will say you were too soft.

Monday morning quarterback is the easiest job in the church. No wonder so many people do it.

Charlie.. I am NOT a monday morning quarter back.  I happen to have been in the Friday night game. Someone in my family was molested and fondled by a Catholic Priest.

And the attitude of the members grieves me. It really does.

How was that situation handled? Is he still serving as a priest?

Charlie, child molestation is not only a sex sin, it is a violent crime. It leaves emotional scars on people. I am not judging anyone, I am just saying that this is discipable that this goes on right in churches. I am not saying that all catholic priests do this, but we all know that there are many who have done this atrocious act. There is no way that they should have the position, if they are willing to molest a child. The  church is supposed to be the light of the world, but when church leaders do this, they are bringing darkness to people. They are bringing agony and grief to people. Church leaders are supposed to be there to help people, not destroy them.

Of course, if someone repents of their evil deeds, God will forgive them, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be held accountable and it doesn't mean that we should just sit back and tolerate it either.

Charlie brings up a good point.  I think that it is entirely wrong to characterize or demonize entire church based on the horrendous acts of some of its members.  No doubt mistakes have been made.  What attitude are you referring to?  The attitude of Catholics is clear--those that committed these crimes should be punished and Catholics are outraged and embarassed over the mishandling of many of these situations.  However, I do realize that situations like these can automatically turn into a "witchhunt," especially when fianancial gains are to be made.  I already know of one priest that has been wrongfully accused simply because someone wanted to make some quick cash.

And or course, just this past week in my locale, a baptist minister has been charged with sending 50 sexual text messages to a 16 year old.  Ironically, the congregation is supporting its minister.  A baptist youth minister is charged with molesting a 14 year old boy.  Wow, and these people are not even Catholic.

You are exactly right.  Broad assumptions should never be made on the actions of one or two individuals -- assumptions about Catholics, Protestants, Hispanics, women, men.....
