I just stumbled across a rebroadcast of the 911 news coverage on MSNBC.  I watched NBC for most of that day, but I don't remember the images.  I don't remember how blue the sky was behind the rising smoke.  I don't remember Everything Else being so bright.

What they're showing now was broadcast while I was driving from Flagstaff to Phoenix (the North tower just collapsed and the report just came in of the crash in Pennsylvania--I remember that was the moment when the denial started to break and I realized my plane wouldn't be taking off).

It's shocking to me to watch this again. It's bringing too much back.

That's one of the things I remember  most, that it was a stunningly beautiful morning until...

We found out later that morning that a relative had just gotten an office in the WTC, but was on Wall St. that morning.  Another friend had worked there, but just moved (she was there for the '92 bombing, though).  Yet another friend was stuck in traffic on one of the bridges into Manhattan, watching the entire episode in horror.

But yes, the weather that morning gave no warning of the darkness of the day.

I shoved a tape into the VCR that morning and hit record.  I haven't watched it since, but I am sure I will eventually just to remind myself of what my purpose on earth is for.

I am sure my kids will need to see this some day too.

I did, too.  I've got quite a bit of coverage of the aftermath somewhere around here.
