Not a complaint; just a question

What is the purpose of rule 3.3?  It's a bit annoying to me.  I know there has to be a purpose though, so that's why I'm asking.  It just seems to me that it would be better to see what new members had to say through their links instead of waiting so very long for their allowance to post them.  I've been curious on a number of occasions and may never find out what those links would have been to.  That's my issue.  Maybe you can put my mind to rest by giving the basis for the rule?  I'd appreciate it.

The vast majority of those who start out with a bunch of links are spammers.  It isn't too much to ask to stay around awhile before posting links.

twenty posts (which is the minimum for posting a link, I believe) is only 2 or 3  of days for if one is active at all.

I made the mistake of opening up several since I have been here that were pornographic to the max. Of course the moderators quickly removed the link and the perv was banned.

Nevertheless

New members [<20 posts] are allowed to include a web address in their post without making it a link, right?

Jimbob

A link is a link and a web address is a link.  However, there's no prohibition as I understand it, on them including their website in their profile like all other members, so long as it fits Lee's guidelines and has a link-back.

DCR

The display may try to automatically display web addresses as links anyway.  But, I think posting any kind of external web addresses is not allowed under the rule.

(oops... jmg and I were posting at the same time)

Well, New members may spam using links the more cool members wont. I am a new member but i dont spam.
