This is Luke 14 verses 12-14 (NIV):

12Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

I wonder how many of us can truthfully say that we have lived in accordance with this scripture.

janine

No, I haven't lived by that verse.  ::spam::
Not to the extent that I don't invite relatives and friends to eat with me...

But then, I don't think that's exactly what you (and the Lord) meant.  ::readytoeat::

What have you done, what have I done, to see that the spirit of this passage gets carried out in our lives? ::pizza::

The trouble with answering this question is, will we be letting our left hand know what our right hand is doing, if we tell you?   ::tiptoe::

Pokhara

You are referring to Matthew 6:3 Janine.  But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,(NIV)

To clarify, I was not asking anyone to spill the beans on what they do or fail to do regarding hospitality.  Rather, I was seeking to remind people of this passage, so that they can reflect on how it relates to their own lives.

janine

And you just want to be remindin' folks, but not necessarily discussing the mechanics of it?

Love that scripture and if you are doing God's will then this will be a part of your life. How many preachers do this? Who are they taking to lunch after church services?

James Rondon

Probably more than you would like to admit.

thanks for that verse.

Makes us stop to think about exactly what we are doing and what we could be doing.
