I often don't watch the show that closely, but listen to it.  I think that's part of why Syesha doesn't impress me as much, and I know it's why I changed my mind on David Cook.  Once I stopped watching him, I heard that he was better than I thought.

I relate to what you are saying, James.  Often I will close my eyes so that I am not swayed by my personal bias toward one of the contestants.  At the very beginning this season, we were sure that David would go out first.  We were not fans.  And then we really started listening and he is the front runner from our perspective.

People at school think that its going to be between the two Davids in the end. To me, and some think the same, that David Cook is too much like Daughtry and really just trying to act like a rock star which is kinda true by his cocky attitude at times.

This week, I hope that Jason goes home and he should have last week and definetly not Carly, she was too good a singer.

Considering that Daughtry had the fastest selling debut rock album in Soundscan history and has sold several million albums, that's not a bad model to follow. Cook is better off losing and and avoiding going through the embarassment of a Clive Davis robo-factory album.

This is pretty much along my thinking as well.  I tend to think it will be between the two David's in the end too.

I'm ready to say goodbye to Jason, so I hope this is the week he goes.

I actually wondered last week if that was why Carly seemed so easy going about losing--that she'd be more creatively free.

I like Daughtry much better post-Idol.

Carly never clicked. Great voice but something just is missing.

As for tonight.

My rankings (sure to cause disagreement)
1. David Cook. One good performance one great one.
2. Brooke. One OK performance one pretty good. America gave her a second chance but did she do enough to justify it?
3. Jason. Does he really have the drive to do this? First performance kinda neat. Last one the song eluded him.
4. Syesha. She's auditioning for Broadway and seems to no longer care about winning. Good singing but performance in both cases was out of line with the song. Think she's probably done because #5 isn't going home yet.
5. David A. His voice didn't work for the songs. First song was a mess as was the second but he followed the Kristy rule and gets to come back besides America will forgive one lousy performance (see Brooke).

I couldn't disagree although my order would be a bit different.  Here's how I see it:

1.  David Cook.  Flat out the best.  Some may not enjoy his genre - but he is the only true artist in this competition and the only one I look forward to seeing.  Paula was correct.  He should be the winner.

2-5. The rest in no particular order.  I don't think any compare with David.  They have all reached their apparent zenith.  (Although I appreciate Sysesha's growth.  But, she really is a performer with a good voice - not a great deal of heart and a consistent disconnect with her music).

I think Brooke is performing scared.  Nothing new here.  David Archuleta - good voice, but a boy.  I did not think he did the last song well.  Jason?  I like him but he doesn't seem that interested in, well, almost anything.

Any of the bottom 4 can go as far as I'm concerned.  But I think Jason deserves to go the most.

Thanks, you saved me typing. ::smile::  That's pretty much how I felt last night.

Cook
Archulets (I liked his second song but not his first)
Brooke
Syesha
Castro.

Unfortunately, I think Castro will be in the top three.  He was horrible last night, though.

Jimbob

Did anyone think for a second there that Paula already had her notes for both performances prewritten?  I think it was an honest flub, but I could see the conspiracy theorists running for the blogs as she spoke.

No.  I just figured Paula was being Paula which means she was sort of clueless again.
She is very nice though. ::smile::

I had the tv on the whole time and I didn't hear Brooke sing "I'm a Believer", so I may be as far gone as Paula.

I was working on stuff for my class, and I must have just zoned out.

Count yourself lucky. ;)

Big Mike Lewis

Didn't watch last night...preferred seeing Iron Man.

marc

Mike, you haven't told us; did you like the movie?   ::tippinghat::

I really hope that Jason messes up next week and allows Syesha to make it to the final three. I've never really liked any performances by him and don't like his style. However, the final two will most definetly be the two Davids but there have been some shocking eliminations before.

As for last night, Brooke was a good singer, but I didn't think she would have a chance at winning but she still did well.

I'm not sure whether he messes up makes any difference.  I mean, he wasn't even in the bottom two next week, and how much worse could it get?

I have this gnawing feeling that we're not going to see two Davids in the finals, but only one young David.  I hope I'm wrong, but the voting's been pretty abysmal.

segell

Well, that insecurity that Brooke talked about overcame her in the end.  The last couple of weeks her performances seemed fearful to me (not to mention that she doesn't have any rhythm...whatsoever).  Im not so certain she has what it takes to withstand the extraordinary pressures performance artists must deal with.

By the way, did you hear the gospel message in Neil Diamond's song.  I actually liked the song.  I know he is Jewish by birth, but I wonder if he has actually met our Lord.  The song sure sounded like it.  I hope so, anyway.  The gospel has been presented on a number of occasions through this TV program.  That's amazing in and of itself.

marc

I feel like voting for Castro just because he had the guts (or the total lack of awareness, perhaps) to do a Dylan impersonation on what we're often reminded is a singing competition.

'course David Cook, when faced with the archives of the history of rock, pulled out a Duran Duran song.   ::rolling::

Mmmmbop...dt, da, dt, da, dt.....mmmmmbop!  ::doh::  I was in Russia when they were big, and their video was played all the time between programs.  I thought they were a one guy/two girl band until I got back to the States and heard otherwise.  No kidding.

Yeah, he was on a roll.

David Cook was actually boring last night (both songs).

I think Sayesha was acting (she really may have been as sincere as the day is long, but my stink meter went up when she was wiping tears off her face a full 30 seconds before the first one actually flowed...check tivo) and her first song seemed desperate to me.

Castro...see picture in my post above.  Since he wasn't supposed to make it past Christy Lee's departure more than a week, I say it's a toss-up between him and Sayesha who goes home.  It should be him after last night, no question.

Allegiance

Jason was a total wreck last night, he might go home but people felt sorry for him and he likely won some sympathy votes. With Syesha doing pretty well, I think it should be Jason but we all thought Carly was great too.

Its David and David all the way through.

segell

I miss Christy Lee!!!  She sure sang purty...

Anyway, kind of boring, I thought.  Castro's seemingly indifferent performances - not to mention dropping lyrics - should send him, as Simon said, packing.  Is he smoking somethin'?

David Cook was ok.  I mean Duran Duran?

Syesha looked stunning.  And I think she performend adequately in the first song (although a not so great imitation of the Great, Great Tina - if you don't include the legs).  I thought she did a good job on the second and Randy was just too hard.

Archuleta has a great voice.  With that said, while the vocals on "Stand by Me" were very good, a 17 year old just doesn't understand those lyrics deeply.  And it sounded that way.

It is between the Davids.  And Castro must go.  The other three towered over him.

Arkstfan

I absolutely loved Cook's Babba O'Riley. I've bought several of his iTunes recordings.
Syesha's second song was very good, the first was a cheap imitation including all the same moves. She needs to be in theater.
David A has a very good voice but sounds like Patrick from Sponge Bob when he talks. I cannot imagine ever buying a record by him.
Castro... you can't convince me he wanted to win or if he did he was clueless about the work required.

Oh, no!  I'm glad it's nearly over, because now that's gonna be cracking me up every time he talks.

Allegiance

I'm glad that Jason went, and it seems that he wanted to go. He says things like oh, I'm inexperienced and not that good. Seacrest even told Jason that he seemed 'relieved' when he got eliminated; the others were better but anyway, Syesha will have to mop the floor with Archuleta in order to get in to the finals. Cook, I think(and based on the crowd always screaming at him) is in the finals hands down. Archuleta has the upper hand but Syesha isn't entirely out; she has done better the past few weeks.
