I'm showing my age,  but I heard him at least two times,  and thoroughly enjoyed him.   He was in Indianapolis for the Mid-America Evangelism Workshop way back when.   I read his book also.   
He was very humorous and there wasn't a bit of racism in him.   Appreciated that so much!

I think the crackers and cookies he makes are better than Nabisco's.

He used to say he liked to preach like a pressure cooker, humor was the relief valve so the people could take the hard truths without blowing up.  I wish I could remember the exact quote.

He used to also say that preaching in the South in largely white communities didn't scare him because he carried an "axe" and "two .38's" everywhere he went.
