Does God have 1 person "for me" in his plan?

Now that I'm divorced, people have started telling me this.

People tell me that God has a person for me...like there's 1 person out there who is God's destined mate for me.  That person is "in God's plan" and nobody else.

Does it really work that way?  Sometimes?  All the time?  Is it just wishful thinking?

My opinion is that it is wishful thinking.

Some spousal choices are clearly better than others. Biblical principles are helpful, and if both parties live to serve each other (as Jesus taught), then most problems can be worked out.

Nonetheless, God leaves the choice up to us, and intends for us to remain faithful to our covenants. He promises to bless us and to be with us in whatever circumstances and problems arise.

Obviously, as you know better than I do, that still doesn't mean that every marriage beween believers always works out with a fairy tale ending. However, when marriages fail it is not always because you married the "wrong person."

If you hold on to this notion, then you may be going through life looking for the "perfect" mate.  Guess what... no one is perfect.  I haven't met a girl yet that doesn't have flaws.  And, my own flaws compound the problem.

Relationships take work.  And, success in anything is not possible without some failures along the way.

Then again, I have no idea what I'm talking about since I haven't yet been in a successful relationship.  ::twocents::

No, it does not work that way.

Or how about Hosea and Gomer?

(Wait, bad example . . .  ::doh::)

BTW, I know that this question arises from the pain of recent experiences. By discussing it with some levity I do not intend to make light of your pain.

Make God bless you and give you wisdom and peace in all your future choices.
