Anyone taken Paxil?  What kind of reaction did you have?

Imabear

I've never taken Paxil , but have taken other SSRI's.
There are lots of weird symptoms.
One I took made me yawn continuously.
Most made me so sleepy I couldn't function.
Most made me so I really didn't care about anything.... Complacent.

I'm having similar reaction to what my sister and a guy she worked with had.  She gave up; he stuck with it and said it was worth it, that he had a breakthrough after three weeks.

I'm honestly not sure I can keep my job for three weeks like this.

Is there anyway you can take a lower dose?  Ask the doc.

I was on Paxil for several years as a teenager. I cant remember the side effects from it, but I do remember it made me feel totally numb (mentally). My grandfather died while I was on it, and I couldn't even cry at his funeral. I never cried or felt strong emotions while on it. I came off of it when my parents lost their insurance. I had to learn to cope on my own. I few months ago I was on Lexipro (sp?). I had to come off of it because the side effects were so bad for me (the doctor said it was like Paxil, but was less likely to involve weight gain). It made me very sick, and I was only on half a dose. I was on medication both times for clinical depression and panic attacks. I'm currently not on any meds for that at the moment.

I am also taking SSRI cipramil and it's side effect is minimal after few weeks of medication. First when i was diagnosed with anxiety and depression, i took xanax but it's not good according to the doctor because of tolerance and it' addictive but it's effect is fast. The problem is the withdrawal of this med because its like my sickness gets worst. Luckily i switch to cipram after few months. My cipramil dose is 5 mg everyday. very light side effect and i am comfortable at work.

Maybe sometimes we suffer too much side effect because the med is very strong. It should be consulted with the doctor and also self help to analyze the effect of the med by ourselves too.

Here is a site with a ton of reviews http://dailystrength.org/treatments/Paxil

I took it as a kid  Mom made me) and I will never take it again. it was only then did I try and kill my self...Thank God I failed each time.

Remember Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. that is what helped me the most and got me through life thus far any way. I did not no God then ( family atheist) but through thr trial I found him.

here is another good article http://www.nutritionalsupplements.com/prescription/paxilR23.html

this one was good too http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=30996

They are articles from people who were on it a while.

I would do the research I no it messed me up more then aything else.

form experience; for those who are suffering from anxiety and depression, i recommend to take on meds because it is very uncomfortable and it will make your life very uneasy all the time. During my therapy with the doctor he gave me peroxitine but it was so terrible luckily when i tried cipramil it hits the nail. Until now it is meds and i always carry it in my bag and 5 mg is not that strong and the side effect is very light. Of course i know already that this sickness will accompany for a lifetime so why resist it. Instead i share to others about my experience and make fun of it sometimes. All of my colleagues in the company knows that i am suffering from depression and anxiety so they dont mind if my temper is high.

My mom took it for about 2 years and she gained a lot of weight, she then went to prozac and she said that she felt "cold" and numb inside,, she finally found zoloft and is doing very well on it, her side effects are not as bad as the others.

After I attempted suicide as a young adult, I was placed on paxil and I experienced extreme lethargy and a disconnect with my emotions as well.

Selective seratonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs), like many other types of antidepressants, can indeed have varying degrees of side effects.  Some of these can be severe in some instances.  The side effects of just about any drug vary radically from individual to individual.  It is a very good idea for the patient to read the information folder provided by the pharmacist with any prescription.  While most of the potentially more severe side effects are uncommon to rare, the information in the provided folder is there to alert the patient to any symptoms needing immediate report to his/her physician.  One should always keep in close tuch with his/her doctor when taking antidepressants because some of are notorious for causing some rather untoward effects in some patients.

Marc
I suffered from depression most of my life.  It took me until age 50 to understand what I was dealing with.  Manic depressive.  Job and other pressure put me in counseling and on Paxil.  I took it for over a year and used other antidepressant  drugs.  Paxil had 3 major side effects on me. 1. intensified the effects of alcohol 2. certain sexual side effect actually a desirable one 3. made me suicidal.   In fact all anti depressants I tried made me suicidal.  I did better self medicating with alcohol.  I took a lot of abuse on this board for saying that.  Not something I rec comend for others but worked for me.  Over time I learned to recognize the signs of my depression and developed coping mech.  I rarely get depressed now.  ( Although I am facing some of the most trying things physically of my life)  About the only alcohol I drink now is a glass of wine each night for my heart.   Your mind puts you in depression and (at least in my case) it can also bring you out of it.  It is not just snap out of it or something that happens quickly.  It takes work effort and discipline.  Hope that this helps in some way.  Although we disagree on many issues I believe you to be a good and honarable man.  God bless John.
