My Challenge to Christian Singles

Written By: Esther Desrivieres

Date: September 14th, 2008

Ever since I turned to the Lord in June 2007 I have been single. This fact amazes both me and my loved ones. All who know me well know I just want to love, love, and keep on loving. It's amazing I've lasted this long, because I'm a softy for romance & affection; you know, the mushy gushy stuff. The Lord has empowered me and kept me on His path for my destiny. I surely could not have done this on my own without His strength.

Lately I've been accused left & right for my stand for righteousness. I've been called "proud

RAMS

But sometimes, there is a great notion, in the places of the heart. We can be so 'holy' that we may meet the stranger, and cast him away. Oft times, we molate so deeply in religious fervor, we may miss the adventure of heart that was the place of our finding that which heated us up for our forever in the first place.

Never turn away the stranger at your gate, for you know not what angels they may host....

Just a thought, on the voyage, from a man who loves life and the Lord, and does the great commission, but does so in fury as a Boanergez (Son of Thunder), and in that, a man that if the Lord would save him, He would save anyone.........

Behold the heart,

Always,

Robert

I fell into the trap of believing that "normal" men were married. My own sorry-excuse-for-a-dad accused me of being homosexual because I had made it past my teen years without having sex with a girl. I allowed that to influence me into marrying the wrong person.

I can't understand this low-life mentality that if you're normal then you will have sex in your teens all through life even if you're not married, and that single people aren't normal anyway.

My first wife was raped twice by her step dad and grew up with the attitude that sex=love. One of her sisters said that one of her brothers was the first male she had sexually. Sex in her family was rampant even in the living room in front of little kids. I was young and naive and thought I could change my wife into what I wanted. Boy, was I ever wrong!

Being single can be normal. I have never married. Those who know me and my family know why I have never married. Life circumstances changes plans. People do not know what normal is until they truly know who you are.

"How are you doing?" The conversation starts. I hear "my wife or ex wife" depending on the person. In meeting certain people, the question comes "are you married?" No. Some are curious and have that look on their face ::headscratch::. Something must be wrong with you. You are not normal. You want to tell people about your life but it would take too long. "Life did not work out that way for me." "Oh, okay." I leave it at that.

Single people are normal. Married people are normal. Some in both groups are very abnormal.  There are abnormal families. I am sorry that life turned out the way it did for you. I have a brother who has been through several marriages. I consider him a "normal" person whose life was not so normal. There were some negative influences in his life.

Sometimes, it can take several marriages to find the right combination. My dad married three times before finding a good wife--my mother. OK, so I'm a little biased in her favor, but she was a wonderful mother. One of my brothers married three times before finding the right one for him. I had a friend who was married for the third time by age 25, but the third one was a good match.

I've been married and divorced twice and am not looking for a third. Only God knows if the third would be right for me, but I have no desire to find out. Actually, I don't think there's a woman with enough patience to put up with me. At 62 I'm too set in my ways and don't want to have to compromise. Marriage takes a lot of compromising--usually for the man only. I haven't found a woman who is willing to compromise to make a relationship work. I have no problem with compromising as long as it's not one-sided. They expect the man to change to suit them and will make life hell on earth if he doesn't. I realize there are exceptions to that, but that's been my experience--so my apologies to any women reading this. Life has made me a bit cynical.

I married really young.  It didn't last very long as it was born out of the flesh, not of the Spirit.  That was over 10 years ago.  I've had one serious relationship in the past 10 years but it never worked out.  It was hell towards the end actually (as was my marriage).  I'd still like to get married and settle down, but I'm also content with my life just now.  I'm in no hurry.

I've known so few happy married couples that I wonder why people bother getting married. They rarely work out, and if they do both parties are miserable and just tolerating each other. Some husbands cheat on their wives, and some wives cheat on their husbands--thinking the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. I've met two happily married couples, and my parents weren't one of those couples. Why she put up with his is beyond me.
