Nevertheless

We had a major storm come through last Friday that knocked out our power. When we saw poles down and drove across wires we figured it would be off a while, so we went back to town and saw Star Trek.

Seeing a movie in a theater is an unusual occurrence for us. The last one I went to was Prince Caspian in June of last year and for Hubby it was the 1st Narnia movie. We enjoyed it a lot. I agree with you, Gary, it "felt" like a movie. It also seemed like they didn't think it was necessary to tie up loose ends and get ready for a future episode. I'm sure we'll buy it when it comes out on dvd.

I would like to see a DS9 movie, but I doubt that will happen, even though over the long haul, I thought it was the best Trek series.
I wonder why they didn't go that route while it was still on, or just after it ended?

And if you disagree with me, you sir, are worse than Perez Hilton.
Whoa.  Now that's just dirty pool, Mr.  Dirty pool.

I got the tactic from Greg Gutfield.  He usually uses Hitler instead of Perez Hilton though.

I saw Star Trek on Saturday night and it was AWESOME!!!  I am not a trekkie, and I was really impressed.  No swearing, no sex, ...the only thing objectionable were a fist-fight scene in the beginning of the movie and some fighting scenes between the good and bad guys, but that was expected.  I don't see movies too much anymore, and this was well worth it.  The plot was interesting and well-done, and keeps you in suspense, the movie visually was very good and the actors were very good!

I recommend it, thumbs up!!!   ::noworries::

So I guess you missed the part with Kirk in his tighty whities on top of a female in her undies? Mild sex scenes, I'll admit, and tame by today's standards, but not no sex.

Cally

I'll probably see this this weekend. Viva la Star Trek!

I met James Doohan and George Takei at separate conventions out here.

I wasn't paying particularly close attention to that scene...but weren't they just making out? Regarding the movie though...best movie I've seen since Lord of the Rings.

We saw it last night... We went to 5 guys, Burger and Fries and then to the movies... It was outstanding!

I went with my parents last night (I was probably a pre-teen the last time we all saw a movie together).

LOVED it. Fabulous movie. Might have to see it again.

I went to see it yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The original series was in its first run on TV when I was a kid.

It was interesting to see new interpretations of the characters, and fun to see each "new" character introduced.

There were two regrettable shadows of Star Wars influence: the bar scene, and the scene where Kirk is chased by alien creatures in the snow.

Otherwise, I thought it was a terrific movie.

I spotted both of those also... and that creature... I have seen somewhere else too...    ::headscratch::  I know I have.  Oh yeah...  Blade III.

What did you guys think about how the time thing ended. If I caught it all the implication is that a whole new alternative time line is now active--one in which the Romulan and Vulcan worlds have been destroyed and one in which there are two Spocks. Room for future movies depicting the "new" adventures of Kirk and crew?

sopranette

We took the kids this weekend to see it.  Very good, lots of action, no boring council debates, and some good humor, too.

love,

sopranette

The Romulan world still exists.. that time line will never happen.  It's just vulcan that is gone.

It makes it easier on the writers. They can keep what they want from the extensive facts revealed about the Star Trek universe. They can also change what they want to because it is a new timeline.

Right. Although the supernova may still occur in the future of the altered timeline. I wonder if Spock would reveal that info so that there are many decades to prepare for it and possibly save Romulus?

I just saw this tonight.  Good flick.

And, as a result of the future being changed, if the events that led to the Romulans and Spock going back in time to change history are prevented from happening... then we end with the paradoxical problem of time travel.  ::smile::

It's all parallel universes at this point, I suppose.

I thought Leonard Nimoy's role in the movie was a nice touch.

Great movie. Will probably be the best of the summer. Casting was perfect! McCoy is my favorite casting. I will likely see it a couple more times in the theater.

It was a slick move on the writers' part. They managed to do the parallel universe thing without being cheesy, and it left them with the ability to create an entirely new story about the characters.

I could be wrong, but I don't think we'll see the old Spock again, assuming they make a sequel. I think he was there simply to pay homage to the old characters, and connect them to the newer versions of themselves.

This is a good movie. I try watching the original series and it is very "painful." I like how they explain the crew coming together.  I will not say more. Of all the captains in the Star Trek series, Captain Picard is the best. If I were to fly on a starship I would feel most comfortable with him in command.

Bon Voyage

If you had the lobes for business, you would say Capt. Sisko was the best.

Picard was a tactical commander though...he wasn't any fun. You haven't LIVED until you've told Scotty to pull all power from shields and throw it to the engines.

I just saw it and liked it a lot...it was well done, in my humble opinion.

I am kind of split on the "alternative timeline" thing though.  Did they reboot the series?  Or was that just an excuse to put them all together for a movie that flew in the face of canon?  dunno...

I did enjoy the movie though, very much so.

Saw it in IMAX.....really good flick.

Now, what will be my other movie for this year?
