Dating isn't necessarily serious, and you're just out to have a good time. With courtship you're more serious and considering the person as a spouse. At least that's the way I see it.

Yeah, its all about what the words mean to you. To me, "a date/dating" is spending time with someone to get to know them. If you take the next step, boyfriend/girlfriend material, I would define that as courting.
