Not sorry to burst your bubble, but Roman catholicism started in about 313 AD with the edict of Constantine. There were Christian churches in existence before Roman catholicism was invented.
The Roman emporer Nero (reigned from AD 54-68) regarded Christianity as a threat because Christians would not recognize Caesar as a god. If Christianity would spread, he would lose control of the people. Nero paid spies to set up false Christian churches, (many were in Jewish Synagogues), to lure true Christians into these churches so that they could be arrested and killed. Under orders from Nero, his spies, pretending to be Christian, set fire to the city of Rome. This was done to justify the massacre of the true christians; the fire was blamed on the Christians and they were to be put to death in the arenas. For over 200 years following this, Rome persecuted Christians and killed them, but Rome was unable to stop Christianity. The Roman emporer Constantine, (reigned from AD 306-307 took advantage of the growing wave of Christianity by saying that he had become a Christian. He issued an edict of Tolerance proclaiming that Christianity is to be tolerated and it is to be accepted as the new Roman religion. This is the true beginning of the Roman catholic church and it happened long after Peter was dead. Peter died somewhere around AD 67. When Peter was alive, there was no Roman Catholic church. When Peter was alive, Nero was killing Christians in the arenas as enemies of the State of Rome.
The Roman Empire was never converted to true christianity. The emporer
Constantine and his servents created a new state religion for Rome that
was a mixture of pagan Roman religious tradition mixed with christianity
and they called it catholicm. Only this false Roman form of christianity
was to be allowed by the state of Rome. The true christians that
practiced Christianity the way that the Bible says to do it, were hunted
down by the Roman state and killed. The true christians realized that
satan had created a murderous religious monster (catholicism) and tried
to call it christian. The true christians ran for the hills. By the time that the protestant reformation was about to start, the catholic church had become so corrupt, that they were torturing and murdering people, in inquisitions, to steal their lands and properties, the pope got half and the king of Spain got the other half. Any real Christian, that knew the true teachings of Christ in the New Testament, could easily see that the catholic hierarchy was evil and corrupt and catholicism was not a real Christian church. That is why the protestants, that were in the catholic church, broke away from it and returned to the original teachings of the New Testament to find true Christianity. There were always isolated groups of Christians that followed the New Testament from the first century onward, and they were never members of the catholic church. These are the ones that Rome tried to hunt down and kill and they ran for their lives and hid out in isolated places. They had the original unaltered Old and New Testament, the massoretic text, later compiled by the massoretes, and the byzantine or textus receptus new testament. These texts were copied word for word and handed down as parchiaments got too old. The real texts, of the real unchanged original scriptures were translated into middle English in the King James bible.
Let a cardinal himself tell you about roman catholicism.
Cardinal Newman admits in his book that; the "temples,
incense, oil lamps, votive offerings, holy water, Holidays, and
seasons of devotion, processions, blessings of the fields,
sacerdotal vestments, the tonsure (of priests, munks and nuns),
images, and statues... are all of PAGAN ORIGIN." The Development of the Christian Religion Cardinal Newman
p.359

The vatican has been lying for centuries to claim Peter as the first pope, and to claim that he is buried at the vatican.
Read this book:
Peter's Tomb Recently Discovered in Jerusalem, published by F. Paul Peterson, P O Box 7351, Ft. Wayne IN 46807, copyright 1960

Research the book, THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE JESUITS, by catholic French historian Edmond Paris; it shows details of how the jesuits instigated world wars 1 and 2. Hitler was catholic.
The Jewish holocaust [IT WAS AGAINST THE JEWISH RELIGION, NOT THE RACE.] was one of their latest inquisitions. Catholic president Diem of Viet Nam had an inquisition against the bhudists in the vietnam era of the 6os.
Alberto Rivera, former Jesuit priest, said they are planning a future inquisition.
Get on google and research, THE EXTREME OATH OF THE JESUITS.

As a history teacher, I cannot believe that someone can be this ignorant.  You cannot be serious.  I am not sure where to begin here.

He might have gotten an A, but I must give his teacher an F.  No self-respecting and knowledgeable teacher would teach this crap.  His teacher must have gotten his degree from Bob Jones University.  Funny indeed.

No...  What you mean is "no self respecting Catholic teacher would teach this", but teachers who are not biased by a controlling religion can indeed teach this, and they have.  Your F doesn't over ride his A in History....   And he went on to get his Masters in Medical Technology...

Besides, we all know that all teachers teach from a curriculum chosen for them by the School Board...  "Say this"... "write this on the board", "ask this"....   "answers in the back"...

I shared Antiaging's post with the other teachers in my department.  Their reaction was the same as mine, perhaps a little more horrified than I was that this type of junk is being taught in a classroom.  By the way, I am the only Catholic teacher on staff where I teach. I guess my fellow teachers are biased too...I teach in a primarily Baptist area.

Funny thing is my textbooks don't contain the same information that Antiaging has presented.

Nice that your son has done well in his field...shame he doesn't know much about history though.

Based on your last comments, it is obvious you have never taught in the classroom.

As always, been a pleasure Kensington.

Oh yes I have...  Sorry to disappoint you.  I'm fully aware of what a class room curriculum is.

Dave Hunt has to be one of the most uneducated people concerning catholic teaching and history.

His writings are purely sensationalistic.

I have a degree in History from the University of Utah, (Hardly a "Catholic" school.), and if you are in any class that teaches that Constantine started, created, began, etc. the Catholic Church, you should ask for your money back.  I was not taught such nonsense in either public High School or College.    If the "Constantine origin" is so common, why is it not mentioned in standard non-Catholic reference material like Encyclopedia Britannica or World Book or common non-religious history books?  Wiki says...

The History of the Catholic Church from apostolic times covers a period of nearly 2,000 years,  making it the world's oldest and largest institution. It dates its beginning to the confession of Peter, and the establishment of the Church by Jesus Christ.

or Encyclopedia Britannica...

At least in an inchoate form, all the elements of Catholicity—doctrine, authority, universality—are evident in the New Testament. The Acts of the Apostles begins with a depiction of the demoralized band of the disciples of Jesus in Jerusalem, but by the end of its account of the first decades, the Christian community has developed some nascent criteria for determining the difference between authentic ("apostolic

I posted this on another thread.  It needs posting here...

No Petrine Supremacy of the Bishop of Rome before Constantine's reign?

(A.D. 180). "[we do this, I say,] by indicating that tradition derived from the apostles, of the very great, the very ancient, and universally known Church founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul; as also [by pointing out] the faith preached to men, which comes down to our time by means of the successions of the bishops. For it is a matter of necessity that every Church should agree with this Church, on account of its pre- eminent authority, that is, the faithful everywhere, inasmuch as the apostolical tradition has been preserved continuously by those [faithful men] who exist everywhere." Irenaeus, Against Heresies, 3:3:2

(AD 195), "Thereupon Victor, who presided over the church at Rome, immediately attempted to cut off from the common unity the parishes of all Asia, with the churches that agreed with them, as heterodox; and he wrote letters and declared all the brethren there wholly excommunicated.

G'day All.
Just wanted to say, for what it's worth, that I'm a 42 yr old "Catholic Christian". I say that in this forum simply to differentiate myself from the "Bible Only Christians". I was also a "Bible Only Christian" once myself, so I understand the simple and beautiful way "Protestant Christians" approach the Faith.
Out in the world I am simply a "Christian"   What do I think of this Dave Hunt bloke?  Not much.  His arguments have been refuted and denied by serious Christian Scholars of all denominations. However, like all extremism, there is always a section of every community that will grasp at it and hold on.
Now do I claim my Catholic Christianity is innocent of such a charge herself? No. Our own history is full of stories of individuals leading, sometimes a few, sometimes thousands into extreme approaches to scripture interpretation. But that to me is the thing!
My Catholic Faith "has" a history. It's a human one.
Full to the brim, of Peters. Denying Christ in times of self peril. Running away, Doing the wrong thing.
That's why I know Our Lord Jesus protects it. It is The Church He Built upon all of us Peters. It shouldn't be here after 2000 yrs, but it is. Despite all our failings, it lives. It often gets chastised. But it fulfills His promises. "Not even the gates of hell shall prevail against you"

Problem for me is, that I'm starting to realise just how much we actually destroy His People by all these arguments.

After 450 odd years, lets face it. "We" aren't going to fix it. And the more "we" argue about who's right, the world we're supposed to be saving, walks further away because they rightfully argue that we ourselves can't decide on the "truth", so what makes us any different from the Muslims, or Bhudhists, or Greenpeace

At what point do we try and start figuring out a way to work together as "Christians" to do what He asked us to do.

Manna for you my friend.  Manna for you.   If only we could convince Christians outside of our Holy Mother Church that it is Christ.   Walk into any Catholic Church and at the center of it, our teaching's, our authority, our Alter, our Mass;  is our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Dear sir you are right. Christianity in general has just become in many ways to the world at large just another religion and quite a confused one. How does one decide who is the right church.?  We ask the question to which denomination or organized church should I be of, or a member of? To a man who is searching for God, could just as easily say I want to be a muslem because there is so much division, fighting or having to choose sides in this thing we call Christianity. So much so that the word Christian holds little meaning of truth anymore. You yourself are searching for that truth. This is why maybe you decided to believe the RCC is that right church. Don't get me wrong but modern day traditions has painted a wrong concept of who represents or is Christ true church     I do not believe the Lord see any of this when he looks at his church. What he sees is a church that has lost its sight in the valley of confusion that Satan has so masterfully brought  us into. We see the church more as an organization of churches and its leaders more that seeing the church as a people of faith in Christ.

Jesus said I am the vine and you are the branches. It is Christ who brings life to the branches. When he spoke this he was not talking about different churches, systems, or orders, but different believers who are the church. You see how we have made the church something it is not. The Lord sees neither Catholic or Protestant. The night I got saved I was alone and very much needed to believe in him. I did not belong to some organized church that claimed to be the right church. I was saved that night by faith and he so wonderfully made himself real to me.  Was it joining some church that made me a child of the king. No! It was my faith to believe that made me his.

Why have we made the church a thing, an organization, or a place we go to instead of understanding the we are all his church because we all individually cling to his vine of life  I see Christianity as a whole and because of traditions of men and multiple beliefs from liberal  to those of strict interpretation along with corruptions I see Christianity as a tree gone bad. Have you ever seen a tree that is half dead while the other half still clings to life, but the tree as a whole can no longer produce good fruit. This is what has happened. Jesus still has his bride and he will save them out of all this at the harvest, and the chaff shall be burned.  This will not be a denominational or a Protestant Catholic thing. He knows who it is that love him and those who just go through the motions. So I say to you, you want to be a Catholic but first and foremost be one who truly loves Christ.

Fallen Knight

Dear McleesB,
That's just it. I do love Jesus. And believe it was He who led me to the Catholic Church.
Saint Ignatius wrote in approx 96AD ( Only 70 years after Christ....a far difference between the Protestant claim that the Catholic Church did not exist until 300 odd )

"They will not come to our prayer or Eucharist, because they do not believe the bread we eat is the flesh of Our Lord Jesus"

The Catholic Church still teachers this important truth. 2000 yrs later. "Not even the gates of hell shall prevail against you" , " The Holy Spirit will lead you in the ways of all truth"

Do you listen and obey Jesus? Or do you simply make up your own mind and then tell yourself it is the Holy Spirit leading you?

Regards
Fallen Knight

if you would like to look at how many were killed by the weeds in the church, why don't we then look to the equal amounts killed by protestants? and then we can just bask in the sins of others, and never grow in our understanding of Truth?
