Anybody?

I'm working on my 27th year of being meat, fish, and egg free.

Can't say enough about what it has given me in return.

I tried really hard for a year. Lack of support from those around me made it difficult. In fact, I tried to go completely raw veggies and fruit.

Now I'm Kosher (no pork, shellfish or other unclean meat according to Old Testament standards). Many health benefits. Try to hit veggies and fruit hard, in that order. I eat a lot of fish and little of the other stuff.

xexon

You have to have the right reason to begin with. What do you hope to gain?

I became one out of compassion, so for me, it was a natural extension of my yogic path. (While I call myself a Christian mystic here, most people don't understand what a yogi is)

But I hope to discuss that aspect with another thread soon.

In my nearly 27 years as a vegetarian, I've never converted a single person. They see me, and the remarkable health and strong body I have, but are not swayed to join me.

The matrix has them.

I'm living proof thats wrong.

I'm a 6 foot tall muscle. And I don't look my age. I sleep an average of 5 hours a night and I have tremenous energy. Take no medicines or suppliments. My yearly physical indicates perfect health despite my advancing years.

Lifelong cyclist too. I've put teenagers to shame going up hills. Endurance is a specialty of mine.

The idea that vegetarians are sick and weakly belong to the past.

Did you know that animals treat me differently than they do meat eaters?

They can smell I'm not a predator.

I can literally talk to animals in the forest.

You would be amazed how many are open to communication.

Another point,

Meat smells dead to me now.

Just like when a smoker quits smoking and realize how badly they stank the whole time, a vegetarian becomes aware of how badly meat smells. It makes you stink like the meat you eat.

If I walk into a supermarket, I can follow my nose to the meat department.

It's the smell of death.

Not in the proper sense.

When you live in such a harsh environment, being a vegetarian isn't always an option.

Fish and lamb were popular in his day.

I would eat meat if it were a matter of survival.

Ideas about life are useless without life itself.

Yes, of course he was. I only asked the question to see if his basic understanding of scripture was literal or metaphorical. :)

Bon Voyage

I've been a near Meatatarian for about 28 years now.  It's been a great 28 years for my taste buds.  In fact, I am a lifelong member of PETA.  People Eating Tasty Animals.

Mere Nick

Yep.  If God didn't want us eating animals then they wouldn't taste like meat.

I believe this is referring to the faith of Jesus Christ, who needed no physician, did things like attach a man's ear back on without surgery, heal the blind, etc, etc.

I believe that it is said that Vegetarians are weak because they lack the faith that says they will be ok if they also eat meat and other foods.

According to that verse then... even a man like Daniel would be considered weak then... Because He did not have faith to eat the King's portion of meat and the wine they drank because he did not want to defile himself, instead He ate vegetables and drank water.

Daniel 1:1-1:21

I'm not a Vegetarian, but don't get me wrong... I know the healing properties of vegetables and fruit/herbs through study... and healed my parents of a disease called Hepatitis-C... many people heal all sorts of deadly ailments with Vegetables and fruit/herbs including cancer.

Yet until I could have the faith of Jesus Christ and heal the sick with my hands... I will use plants instead.

I've found this to  be true with vegan friends of mine. Dogs especially loved him. Guess they didn't consider him a threat.

Fem2009

There's a book "Survival in the 21st Century" which discusses how meat and other environmental factors affect our health and DNA. Very interesting, a little out there but a great reference book. I was pesce/octo-vegetarian for a few years after reading this book. Now, I don't eat pork, but a lean juicy steak is just too good to pass up  ::noworries::

Having my food be organic is more important to me than not eating animals. I like knowing that I'm consuming the most nutrient dense, chemical-free food.I cannot fathom getting my protein from legumes only. That gets old.

Daniel was not a Christian, and Daniel was not a vegetarian.  He ate vegetables because he was was in a strange land and was going to keep the dietary laws of the Mosaic Covenant, etc.  Context is important.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a vegetarian/vegan.  Have you seen what happens to the animals in slaughterhouses?  The way that the animals get killed isn't right, and those slaughterhouses does hurt the enviornment.  A lot of meat, especially red meat is harmful to our health too.  In the bible it does say that we're allowed to eat meat but the bible also says that if one of your brothers eats meat, and you don't, you shouldn't tell them that it's wrong.  And to not do anything that would cause them to stumble.

On the other hand, we do need our protein but there are supplements and vitamins to replace meat.

grass fed beef is wonderful.  Buffalo is great.  Chicken is very healthy.

I've considered going a little vegan, if that makes sense, because of the kidney stones.  I've found some vegan meals that taste very good.

OldDad

There's nothing wrong with being a vegetarian if you do so as a personal choice or for health reasons.  It only becomes wrong when you begin to insist that everyone should be a vegetarian and/or that they are sub-Christian or a bad person if they are not.

Not saying that anyone has done that here, but I catch a whiff of superiority from a lot of vegetarians that I talk to.

Personally, I eat it all - but especially love shrimp, catfish, and pork barbeque.

Steaks, too.

And burgers.

And fried chicken.

And chicken gizzards.

and...

memmy

ewww, chicken gizzards? Oh man, OD, you eat guts? Blah!

OldDad

Not guts, mems - it's an organ, designed by the Creator to pulverize the small rocks a chicken will sometimes swallow.

Now, chitlins on the other hand...

memmy

Oh man, organs are guts in my view..........ohhh..........I'll stick with the muscles myself. (wink)

OldDad

My dad always said that in the hot summer when he was a kid, his mother would cook chitlins and collards at the same time.  He claimed it was the only house in the neighborhood where the flies were trying to get out...

Anyone have a good marinade for kitty cats?

We love Christ, we teach others about his love. So, what's wrong with telling others something that is healthy and beneficial for them? Nothing. It's all about the approach, I agree.

I swear that when I started reading this thread I thought to myself "I don't think most people disagree with other folks being vegans...but somehow they always end up being very eccentric or "odd".   Then I read this post.

If you are talking to animals in the forest and they respond...you will want to check to see what plants you are eating...some may have side effects   ::whistle::
