I guess it is because God has done a work on me...
but my male friend who I used to be pretty good friends with in the past, called me last night and was describing his recent trip to Cancun.  He proceeded to tell me how he was drunk almost all the time, (day and night) how he knows how to talk to "b" words, and how he was treated like a piece of meat (in a good way according to him).  I was absolutely appalled.  I can't even count the number of swear words used in the approximately 12 minute conversation, but I would factor a guess of at least 12, averaging one per minute.  The simple fact that he was drunk constantly does not impress or amuse me in the slightest, and the fact that he let himself be used "like a piece of meat" by some random girl is pretty pathetic and ungodly to say it mildly.

The funny thing is...a few years ago, this would have been considered a fun vacation!  I would have been excited to go on such a vacation.  This would have been considered "a good time".  Now, PRAISE GOD, I find the whole account of his vacation just plain dumb, appalling, and so against God, that I think the friendship has pretty much had it.  I have absolutely nothing in common with this man anymore!!!! (Praise God for the work he has done in me)

Ironically, this same guy asked me to move in with him only two years ago, and was someone that I at the time had considered as a potential boyfriend or marriage partner.  I would have to be pretty stupid to consider such a person as a marriage partner now.  You got that right! Please God, bring some sensible Christian guys my way...

Oh, by the way.  The name of the resort where he stayed was called "Temptation"

That is absolutely disgusting. Did he happen to mention the name of his travel agent?

Praise God for the work He has done in you Kristina! This is exactly what the Bible means when it says"Be transformd by the renewing of your mind"

God Bless you, keep strong in the Lord, He'll continue to reveal things to you!

Seriously though. It is good that you are maturing in god. Good that you are fleeing the temptations of a negative lifestyle.

I totally agree with you . The longer I have been a  Christian the more than the things of the world apall me and make me cringe. After all these years there is even very little that I can watch on tv or in films anymore becuase of the content and becuase of the messages (even in the adverts.)Its as if you see things with different glasses and now you can see clearly what is going on.

The fact that God has done thisin you over two years is amazing. The world sees this sort of holiday or lifestyle as great when it is so damaging and evil. These sort of holiday resorts are places of pure evil, there are many like that unfortunately. How God must weep.
Being constantly drunk is considered fun, while sleeping aorund is considered as normal, almost as just another recreation.

My son is 31 and has comeback to God only two years ago, he says the same as you that things he used to do or enjoy just arent there any more and he has changed so much. He has little in common with those he used to go out with.He has lost interest in much of the music that he used to listen to or books that he used to read.  His eyes are on God now and he is studying full time at a Christian ministry here in the UK. He is far happier than he used to be and I am sure you are as well. God has an amazing fututre ahead for him and for you.

I guess this also proves why we need to wait for Gods choice for us as marriage partners at the right time as we can so easily go out with or marry the wrong one and then disaster.Imagine if you had married this guy????

God Bless you in your walk with God.

I do not think you should dissociate yourself with him becasue people like him need the most help.  Likely he will grow tired of that life style as it gets old fast and it will be of great value to have someone like you there with an alternative (Jesus) to fill that void.  Thats just my opinion.

Kristina, that's awesome how much you've changed for the better! Praise God for his work in your life!  ::clappingoverhead::

Unfortunately, it's not just non-Christian guys who act like this. Last year after graduation, a bunch of my friends decided to travel to Fort Lauderdale, FL for a celebration vacation. It started out really cool, on the road trip down. I went to a Christian high school and everyone who participated in the trip was a proclaimed Christian who was involved in church, youth groups, who talked about God and who had signed purity pledges a few years earlier. Once we got down there though, a few people really changed. One of the girls went topless all over the beach. A few of the guys found how to get alcohol very easily and were drunk all the time, constantly meeting girls and sleeping with random strangers. It was pathetic. A couple of us girls decided to head over to Orlando and spent the rest of the vacation with my grandparents, and we actually had a lot more fun there going to Disney and Busch Gardens, hanging out at bbqs with my family, swimming and playing sports and so on. It was really a let-down to see some of the others act that way. I'm glad you didn't get involved in that kind of thing because it is dumb. You're a lot better off away from things like that.

Manna to you Kittie! It's so true, unfortunately, self proclaiming christians sometimes act just like the world (if not worse). You did the right thing, and proved that you can have fun without acting like the world!

Isn't it interesting how things we once lived for, now take on a sort of appalling appearance? Now simply remember that a few years ago you were just as retched as he was...and you can properly witness to him as well :)

Kittie that is really sad. They were hardly being a light were they to those non Christians around them. Well doem for doing the right thing. God will bless you for that.

I think it would be fair to say Non-Christians are clueless lol. I remember my trip Cancun and it resembled what you described minus the sex cause I've always been "weird" about that. Guess I've always needed more than a hole and heartbeat. It also amazes me how people with a given atmosphere change into completely different people. I think it would be a lie if I said I didn't get the idea from time to time. But as time goes on I get better able to resist those temptations. Change is an awesome thing.  People will grow and realize they are still empty, everyone has their own season. Lets hope when that time comes they will search for something more than a big mac at McD's.

This is what happens when you have pent up frustration from an overly "wholesome" lifestyle.  People used to get married at like 14 way back in the day so they were not going through huge sex drives as unmarried people.  Also I think alot of christian families are way overly wholesome, teens need to learn to live in reality and people swear from time to time in reality, drinking a beer here and there is not a big deal.  When people live is a stifling enviornment they will tend to act out.

I don't agree.. the Bible says train up a child. That doesn't mean, expose your children to everything just so they have a taste for reality. I was brought up in a household where nobody swore, so it isn't in my nature to swear. I don't have a heart attack if somewhere swears around me, but I don't have to do it. There's nothing wrong with being wholesome. Why should we de-sensitize ourselves and our children to the world? It's hard enough living in this world, we need to give our kids the best start we can.

Totally agree. Arent we told to be pure? I have no problem with anyone having a drink, the Bible doesnt condemn that, if someone swears that is just what they do, and I dont say anything. If they become Christian they will loose the desire to do that and if they arent Christians they know no better.
However we are told to teach our kids the right way to act and behave, and what is right and wrong. A good solid Chrisitan home is a blessing and in no way stifling. My sons girlfriend was bought up in a good solid Christian home and she is a delight. She is lovely, fun, happy and secure and all that I could ever want for my son. She and her family are close, they are all Christians and her siblings  are all married to Christians. I give credit to their parents for the way that they were bought up.

Archibald

I hope to raise my children in a Christian home when I get to that point in my life. Then again I am not going to condemn them if they stray off the path. I agree that there is level of reality that needs to be taught to your children though. I also understand God has experiences planned (even for your children) that you as a parent wont agree with.

Ace19

I totally agree with you on the clueless thing. I grew up in a Christian school from kindergarten all the way to senior year, and now that I'm in college it's really mind-blowing how different Christian men are from non-Christian men (girls too, of course); It's not just sex, but it's respect and chivalry too. My guy friends from high-school were semi-fanatic about chivalry, opening doors for girls and giving up their seats and stuff like that. I got so used to it, but I dont see a lot of that at college. I think that the secular world sort of looks down on those kinds of things.

This is sort of related, but not perfectly. My dad defected over to being an atheist a while ago, and he insists that girls don't want 'nice' guys, they want someone who won't treat them great because they want a project. AKA they want a jerk so they can change him for the better.
...
Am I the only one who thinks that's a steaming pile of crap? Don't know about the rest of the girls out there, but I definitely want a man who'll be kind and respectful toward me, not someone I'll have to 'work on'.
Cluelessness.

So jesus was wrong? Repression and double standards and not explaining why can cause kids to rebel. 'Just do it 'because" doesn't really help anybody.' Nor does expecting kids to catch christianity by osmosis. The bible says train up a child in the way that they should go and they won't depart from it. Train means train.

But a healthy home environment that sets right standards for life isn't going to hurt anybody. That's saying that God is wrong and righteousness doesn't actually work because it's boring and the boredom causes people to break out in order to have 'fun'.

What kind of 'fun'?

And girls having children at 14 can cause serious birth complications so I think that's a bit of an exaggeration for a whole society. (The bible tells us to 'flee fornication' not marry too young to avoid having to deal with it.)

Jesus drank wine and went to parties. But that isn't wrong. Getting drunk and sleeping around is. Kids need to be taught to draw the line but still be able to have fun and relate to people.

the nice guys are the best Ace. I married one, he is Australian, very godly, kind, has very high moral standards and is the most patient laid back guy I have ever known. I definately dont agree that girls want a bad guy, they want to marry someone who will love and cherish them. respect them and who will not get drunk or play around.
Also I love to see guys with good manners, it is very refreshing these days.

totally agree yesult. Living for Jesus is anything but stifling, it is freeing, and the only way to real lasting peace. Living by the worlds standards is the way to sadness and disillusionment.Jesus has come to give us life in ALL its fullness, and if we go His way that is what we will have. Also as you say Jesus never told us we couldn't have fun, but 'fun' by the worlds standards is so often sleeping around, getting drunk, making a totally fool of your self, and if we do that it we suffer for it in one way or another.

rppearso

I think you hit the nail on the head.  You should teach your kids what is right, but they need to know that you are not waiting for them to screw up so you can hit them over the head with the bible.  I think some of these "christian" enviornments are very condeming and thats the issue.  If you brow beat your kids they will act out.

But why is the sin there, I believe it is because society has people getting married at older and older ages yet our biological clock and sex drive have started at the same time since we were created thus it leaves people to deal with there sex drives at the peak with no godly outlet.

Society may be sending that message. But we as christians are stronger than that. Those boys in Fort Lauderdale took a test and FAILED misrably. God help them to find their way. Society can try all it wants, I have never fallen for the temptation of promiscuity. It's called having self respect and thinking logically. If they were so concerned with their sex drives then they would find a compatible girl to settle down and procreate with. The problem lies within people who think living in reality includes sinning. I have traveled the world and had the time of my life WITHOUT having to degrade myself and follow society.
