I just saw Pixar's new film Up, and even though I'm already a big Pixar fan, it kinda blew me away with how good it was.  The action sequences are very well put together and are very engaging, but it was the themes of love, fatherhood and personal growth that I payed the most attention to.  There's a sequence at the beginning that's totally silent and tells the life stories of a loving couple, the sequence ends rather tragically and I actually cried...10 minutes into the film and I already cared about the characters that much

I also found the film's message to be fantastic and far above the maturity level of most modern films.  The main character, and old man mourning his dead wife, had always dreamed of adventuring in South America w/ her and she shared the same dream.  But by the end of the film he comes to the realization that the quiet life he spent with her growing old together was the greatest adventure of all.  It made me cry again...and I never cry at movies

Anyone else who has seen it I'd love to hear your thoughts

I thought this was one of Pixar's best. I definitely wasn't expecting it to be so sad, but the humor made up for it. I think Karl Fredrickson is the coolest old man ever :)

I've always had an interest in going to see this movie, but now I REALLY want to see it!  Thanks for the recap!

I am Pixar fan too!  I am up on UP the movie.   Very good story and great animation.

Probably the most impressive thing to me, storywise, was the part where the house slid off the roof--guy at an old age finally lets go and heads on to something new, after the old goal passed away . . . (which was warming up to saving a bird  ) . . . it goes beyond that later on, but what a wonderful message!

the funniest of all time the the simpsons season 1-20 dvd boxset is.......... In the simpsons season 1-20 I love homer he is so funny and stupid and  the same time. I like to wacth the the simpsons season 1-20 dvd because you can not stop wacthing it. The show the simpsons season 1-20 dvd is what I can not miss , it has been accompanied me for years..

I would like to offer the following as minor warning for those who wish to rent the "Up" DVD:

The version offered for rent  (but not for sale) at most outlets is the cheesiest DVD you can imagine.  Not only is the movie supplemented before and after with (seemingly) a dozen ads and previews, but there is no interactive menu offered to skip over any of this. Plus there are no close captions nor subtitles for the hearing impaired, which might come in handy, particularly when the doberman is speaking falsetto, for those of us with a high range hearing loss. 

If you decide to buy a "pre-viewed" copy of the DVD, be sure that it mentions "Dug's Special Mission" on the box as an extra feature, missing, of course, on the rental version.

Dh and I are going to see up Thursday. My son and daughter went to see it and liked it a lot. We rarely go to the cinema as there is so little that is the sort of thing we want to watch(ie no sex, swearing, bad violence etc) so this makes a nice change for us.

 I saw it at movies, and liked it The older man looks, and acts like my sweet daddy, so it made me sad. Bought the movie, I liked the doberman, and his voice, it was so funny.
