I hear it after prayers.  What does it mean?  When I say it, I want to understand what it means, not just say it because it is something I should say.

it doesn't have to be said after prayers, it can be said before prayers also.  it is the authority, the power, punctuation, the period, it is the Name that means business... no other Name!!!!!!

It is also the name that you use to request anything from God.

Example; "My Lord and my God, in the name of your son Jesus Christ, I ask that you give me this that and the other, amen."

Or, the other way round:  "My Lord and my God, I ask that you give me this that and the other, in the name of your son Jesus Christ, amen."

Both versions means the same thing.  It is frequently said in prayers because most prayers are actually requests to God asking God for something.

A Jesus stated "... anything you ask My Father in heaven in my name and you believe it, it shall be granted to you.

All through history, royal servants have delivered messages "in the name of the king."

This means "by the authority of the king."

And you do not have to say it!.

If you act or pray or just stand there breathing "in the name of Jesus", that means you ARE in Him, you ACT and PRAY in His authority.  Already!  He did it, it's His power, you're allowed to wield it because you have been given it as His beloved.

It's not some kind of magic spell incantation, that you have to stick to your prayer like a postage stamp to make sure it goes to Heaven and not to the Other Place.

If you, as a Christian, offer prayer to God, you are doing it in Jesus' name -- in the authority you were given, by Jesus, to do it -- with the power of Jesus behind it.

When you do something in Jesus' name, you are drawing on His power -- because you have been given the authority to sign on His checking account of grace and mercy and love and limitless power.

So, if you are saved at all, you are saved in His name.

If you take pity and have mercy on anyone because it's what your Lord would have you to do, you are doing it in His name.

See what I mean?  One way to keep yourself from falling into some kind of empty-headed, automatic parroting of that phrase, when you pray aloud, is to not say it.  Instead, come up with another way to express the same ideas.

You will know that you have fallen into a crowd who has already been lost in the empty-headed parrot stage, if you have your turn to pray aloud for the group, and you express the same sentiments toward God but don;t say those exact words -- and someone approaches you to tell you it was wrong to not say the phrase.

Yes, and it's probably a bad idea to say something "in His name" that He wouldn't actually say, so don't abuse it.

Janine, there prayers and prayers, if yu know what I mean.

I bellieve if you are not particular about your prayer being answered, then you can take your chances and leave  out "in Jesus name".  But if you definitely want your prayers to be answered by God, then you have to do as  he commanded - ask it in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.  No ifs or buts or maybes ...

We have no authority on our own to ask anything of God. The only authority we have comes through Jesus. So we ask God to give us our reqeust in the name of Jesus.

When you were a teen and you wanted to buy a car or get a loan, you could not get it on your own, your Dad had to sign for it, use his authority to vouch for you. That's what Jesus does for us. He uses his authority that he gained by dying on the cross, to represent us. To vouch for us. He stands good for it. You had to buy that car in your Daddy's name until you were old or mature enough to stand on your own. When Jesus returns and we have our own glorious new bodies, we will be fully mature. Until then, Jesus must vouch for us.

John 10:10

Jesus declared this in John 14:13,

"Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son."

During Jesus' days in the flesh, Jesus was limited in what He would say and do.  Jesus did not act on His own initiative as God in the flesh, but showed us how a man acts who is perfect submission to His heavenly Father.  Jesus could only say and do those things He saw His heavenly Father doing (John 5:19).

Jesus declared this in John 15:7,

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."

Asking for something in Jesus' name means abiding in Jesus and letting Jesus' words abide in us so that we only say and do those things where Jesus speaks and acts through us.

"As Jesus is, so also are we in this world." (1 John 4:17)

Puts a whole new light on the prayers we pray, and which end "In Jesus' name, amen!"

Act 4:10  Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
Act 4:11  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Act 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Act 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

I found this a while ago, hope it blesses you all........

What does it mean to pray in Jesus' name? Do you close your prayers in Jesus name? Is it enough to just end your prayers with "in Jesus Name?

I like that.

Since everyone is trying to remove the name from prayers, books of study and other christian resources, I think we need to say it more. I noticed that on TV when they use it in a cursing manner no one writes in to the TV station or cable company complaining that they don't want to hear that name and that it should not be mentioned. But don't say it at a ball game, mention it in some religious circles while doing church doctrinal studies, can't say it in the end of a prayer in the military, and the list goes on.
Satan wants it removed vocally from public attention, don't forget that. ::tippinghat::

There is a verse of scripture that records jesus saying ask anything in my name and it shall be done for you.

If two or more are gathered in my name there am I in the midst of them.

Many  meet togther and say it is in Jesus name but there is very little unity other than the name.

if any two agree touching anthing..

Two people can be saying the same thing and meaning completely different things.

Tis quite hard to get two dozen people in spiritual unity and mental unity while being geographicly together.
Let alone a 1000 or more. I actulay think in todays spiritual climate its impossible.

To pray in Jesus name is as in his stead.

THAT is  sober idea.

Only one was alowed to enter into the most Holy Place  .and while I kmnow the scriptures say we can boldly enter in . I still think that those who go in muct be ONE.
In mind and heart.with each other.

IN Christ.

They that ascend the hill of the Lord must have cleans hands and  apure heart.
beforfe you could eneter the holy place you had to wash yoru hands and feet and put off the old cloths and put on the preistly cloths.

What happens when you climb a hill?..........................................

You see more than you did at the bottom.
When daVID SAW THE PROIPSEPRITY OF THE WICKED he acted like a beast towards God. But when he wenty into the presence of God things were seen in thier true perspective.
When we ascend the hill of the Lord we begin to see things a sGod sees it ..Then we can pray in Jesus name .

To gather togther in Jesus name  is to be one in mind and spirit  .
Thinking the same thing and in the Spirit of God.
Praying in jesus name is not sayign a prayer and addign jesus name at the end.

in Christ

Jesus
