All families are different.

Reasonable to let teens have it done, if not already done? Or if a boy is allowed one, later than for a girl, maybe?

farouk

PS:

I guess some families prefer ZERO ear piercings, period, for girls (AND boys).

renewed mind

I had my ears pierced when I was 7yrs, my brother had one I think when he turned 13yrs. Haven't got to that stage with my kids yet. My sister-in-law got her daughters done for her 2nd birthday. Really not sure what we'll do yet either. I think little girls look so cute with earings. I'm seeing a lot more little boys with one pierced now. Not sure what I think about that yet??

Yes, it's not unusual for teen boys to get one.

I guess you're still figuring when you'll have your daughter(s)'s done.

Yes, it's not surprising that you are seeing it a lot, because many boys have one ear done. (Some have both done.)

So you're not sure what you think? ("yet??") you mean you don't know whether you like it, or you don't know whether you'll allow your son to do it whenever he asks?  (I guess there's a slight distinction, anyway.)

Take care.

I think both. I don't mind seeing teen boys ear pierced, yeah, still not too sure if I like little boys with their ear pierced or not. Probably just not used to it yet. My oldest son is 5yrs in Feb, so I don't really know. He has said that he likes mine, but at this stage I'd probably wait until he's in his teens. I think there's actually a policy at his school though that boys are not allowed to have their ears pierced. With my little girl, I think I'd probably wait until she wanted them and understands that it hurts.

Ms renewed:

At any rate it's very widespread on teen boys, isn't it. So you think it looks okay.

He likes yours, then.

I think for a mom who has one in each ear it's maybe a bit easier to tell boys 'no' than if mom has 2 or 3 holes pierced each side; like that, the son will maybe think, Mom has 4 or 6 holes but won't even let me get one...

But it sounds like your son is a very little boy yet and doesn't 'need' an earring at all...

Quotestill not too sure if I like little boys with their ear pierced or not. Probably just not used to it yet. My oldest son is 5yrs in Feb, so I don't really know. He has said that he likes mine, but at this stage I'd probably wait until he's in his teens.

It often depends on whether the school is public or private as to whether such rules exist, I think.

God bless your family.

I've actually got 5 holes in my ears and a labret! My husband doesn't have any though, so perhaps he can deal with him when the time comes   ::lookaround::

Yeah, my little boy goes to a public school.

::tippinghat::   ::smile::

farouk

Ms renewed:

I see, 5, plus a labret. You must quite like piercing. (Do you usually keep little studs in all the ear and labret holes?)

But anyway it has struck me before that if a boy's mom already has a number of studs or rings, then if he wanted even one little stud put in, it's maybe a bit harder to say no. (If that makes any sense.)

Take care.

(PS: did you mean you have 5 altogether or 5 holes in each ear? You must quite like piercing, anyway.)

Yes, I've always liked piercings. I have 2 in one ear, 3 in the other and the labret (3 sleepers and 3 studs - including the labret). I used to have 4 in one ear and 5 in the other. I actually saw a lady at the church I went to as a child with 4 - 5 sleepers in both ears and just loved it. I was pretty young at the time, probably about 10yrs. I think I wasn't allowed to get the 2nd one until I was in high school, then I think each year after I got another one. It probably would be a bit hard if my son wanted one, when my daughter might already have one. I'd probably let him get one to be fair.

Sorry, I got that wrong with the public school, he goes to a private Christian school. He might not have a choice anyway with their policy.

Sounds like 1 or 2 of your holes have closed up.

So I guess your kids always see mom with her nice labret stud in? (But I guess that a labret isn't for them yet; it's more of a 16th or 18th b-day gift, if they want it eventually, right. )

Yes, it's nice, isn't it.

I guess lots of ppl with various piercings get one pair of piercings at a time, and then over a period have added to their 'collection'.

I think often moms take their boys to get done at the beginning of the school holidays, anyway. That might be the way to do it when he wants it and you think he's ready.

Yep, 4 of my holes have closed up now, which I prefer now and yep, I've always got my labret stud in, they've always seen me with one. Haven't really thought about an age for that as yet. At this stage, I'd definitely wait until they were 16 or older.

I think both my boys will unfortunately have to wait until they finish high school now because of the school's policy, they can't argue too much about that - maybe - maybe not!!! Have to wait until they're older. They both pretty good kids, so it would be great if they stayed that way!  ::pondering::

Ms renewed:

So maybe you think your sons can get labrets done at around 16 instead of earrings, because of the school policy on earrings?

I think the policy for boys is for all piercings, so I don't think they'd be able to get it (labret) anyway. I'm also pretty sure that girls are only allowed 1 piercing for each ear. If they went to a public school and there wasn't a policy, I'm still not a hundred percent sure on what I'd actually do at the time, It's really strange and scary to think about it, because they're so young. I know nose piercings for girls are becoming so popular now, almost as common as ear piercings.

::smile::

farouk

So you quite like them, too, do you?

Don't want anymore at this stage, not sure if I'll change when they start getting them - if anything, I'd probably go less.

Possibly... most likely, probably getting too old to be wearing one! I'll have to get rid of it one day. Can't imagine myself as a Grandma wearing a labret!    rofl

Just wanted to jump in with this thought.

My family considered me "too young" to have my ears pierced until my 12th birthday.  If this were the limit you set, mothers, how would you then explain to your 11-year-old daughter why so many of her younger classmates have pierced ears, and even some babies do?

It was the same with frosted hair (late 70's.)  My classmates had frosted hair, and so did girls in lower grades, but I was "too young" until I was 15.

What's the logic here?

It appears that Mr. Farouk is trying to brainwash every one in this forum into getting ear and body piercings
That is really original thinking Mr. Farouk.  TAKE CARE   ::drama::

If you posted about The Second Coming or The End Times or The Evil Instrument as often as you post about piercings & earrings etc., I'd call it a hobbyhorse.  Or a fetish.

Obsession?

Area of intense interest?

Yes, multi-s can be kind of classy, I guess, right?

(But maybe there's no sign of your kids' school changing their policy at the moment. They did at Bryan College, but that's a Christian school for older young ppl, but anyway.)

If its my ear, it will have to be when I am laying in the funeral home getting pickled.  Whatever that age will be.

My daughter was 14 when she first wanted her ears pierced,  I told her absolutely no ear piercings, or any other kind/place on her body, but at age eighteen it was her choice.

She had two speared into each earlobe around age eighteen.  Years later, she now wears none, or occasionally one in each ear.

oops, I forgot to add:  Among the ancient Aztecs and Mayans, labret piercing was reserved for male members of the higher castes.[  ::pondering::

I think that kids should wait until they are matiure enough  to handle the responsibilty of keeping their ears clean before they have their ears pierced.
