Civil War Soldier Laid to Rest...

[DCR]

Earlier this year, the unmarked grave of a solider of the Civil War was discovered on a construction site near Franklin, TN.  Franklin was the site of a battle on November 30, 1864.

This soldier's remains were laid to rest yesterday in a cemetery.  The procession and burial were attended by participants dressed in period uniforms and dress.  Many Civil War reenactors took part.

I was there to witness this, and here is video shot of the procession and burial:

That's awesome...a high school buddy of mine was there too.   Said it was a great ceremony.

On one hand, it is sad, because it took so long.  And yet, it is a happy occasion, because the soldier can finally be laid to rest.  I had not heard about this one, but a few years ago, a similar incident happened in Va.  I was there for that one, and my re-encatment unit participated in his internment.  (I no longer reenact, as we live on the Island of Guam, but at the time I was in the 3rd Va. Vol. Inf).
