Is there an on line Magisterium of the Catholic Church for each Bible Verse, or at least the theme of the Chapter?

That could be the reason why Protestants lack guidance in truth?

Rob, PGK

I'm not sure, I know there are places where you can look up scripture and choose from many different Bible translations. Maybe that would help. Then again, they could go out and buy a Bible that contains the Apocrypha. That would at least give them a starting point.

They don't even have to read it as "the real Bible" if they don't want to, they can just use it as a very interesting compilation of books that help further explain some of the things that they don't understand.

I found this site....
http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/index.html

There are a lot of interesting writings from the time of the early Church. They may not be "inspired by the Holy Spirit," but they contain quite a bit of history and a glimpse into the minds, lives, and thought processes of early Christian leaders.

That was a good site, thanks.

How are we to know the teaching of the Catholic Church without actually being in communion with the church and attending their bible studies.  I am excommunicated, so I am out romping around with the Protestants, and consider myself to be Protestant. However, not by choice!

Thank you so much for that link - it's  bookmarked now - it
saves me from having to go look for the Didache.

And you are correct  - as research and curiousity - the link is great.
One does not have to shun it because it is from Early Church Writings.

Banished-

I'd be interested in your story. My wife was excommunicated from her Church. Right now, I am not allowed to partake in the Eucharist because I broke from Church law and got married outside the Church without having my previous marriage annulled. I'm in the process of taking care of that right now, at first I thought it was crap, but the farther I get into the process, I actually understand why and agree with it. Hopefully, right after Easter, everything will be cleared up and I can have communion again. I never realized how important it is until I was denied it. All in all, the entire process has brought me closer to, not only God, but to my Church as well.

The Eastern Orthodox have an English "study bible" you guys might find insightful.

http://www.conciliarpress.com/books/orthodox-study-bible

As for early Christian writings and even a pretty neat collection of bible translations have you tried, Christian Classics Ethereal Library?

Here's a link on early Church Fathers:

http://www.ccel.org/fathers.html

Study bibles (includes the bible or as you Catholics call them, deuterocanonical books or as the protestants call them, "apocryphal" books [which is weird because apocrypha means "hidden", no?  what's hidden about them?]):

http://www.ccel.org/wwsb/

And then Bible translations:

They have everything from the paraphrase bibles like NLT to the Douay-Rheims, to the JPS (some of these include commentary too, check out panel on the right side of the screen)

http://www.ccel.org/jsp/bcb/main.jsp

There are of course other sites that host only the works of St. Chrysostom etc, can just google for whatever early Christian person of interest: http://www.chrysostom.org/

And here's a link to some Fr. Alexander Schmemmann's writings (personal favorite):  http://www.schmemann.org/byhim/index.html

I'm going to post one of Fr. Schmemmann's writings on the Sabbath on the main board.  Hopefully the reaction to it won't get dicey.  Shouldn't because it talks a lot about the liturgy which will probably just confound most protestants.

God bless

Rob,

I am in the same boat as you were, but I was widowed while I was young.  As a widowed Catholic I was not allowed to marry a divorced catholic, or non catholic.  I am a devout charismatic, so I pray often and I get party suspended mentally while in prayer.  Needless to say, I am only compatible with another charismatic.  Also, I'm not exactly God's gift to women, so after 8 years of shopping around I married a charismatic Jew outside the church.  That excommunicated me, and that wife who was never divorced will never sign the papers releasing me to the Bishop. It's not so bad, plus I would do it again. That also  disqualifies me for not repenting for getting married in charismatic church.

The Church you attend isn't what is important, as long as you go. The woman you spend the rest of your life with is another story.....

I knew the consequences when I married my wife. Luckily for me, my wife has decided to join the Catholic Church.

Rob,

God has bless you with a Catholic wife, so you are in good shape.  What makes it bad for me it that this is the second time. The first time around I married a Methodist, and later went through the process converting her and receiving the Sacrament of Marriage. That puts the Sacrament in my first marriage in question, because when I did it the second time it proved that I didn't repent the first time.  I'm out for good this time.  When I go in to confess, the priest always tells me, "Don't approach the Eucharist".  They must all learn that same phrase in the seminary? Funny how a woman can make a man forget his religion in a second.

mclees8,

Is a young lady working her way through college a prostie when she is your escort during the football game? I don't know? I assume that the young lady could also go to church with you?

The Catholic Church really has me baffled. Some say that I am not worthy to sit in church with them, and others say that I am welcome as long as I don't receive communion. I have limited my visits to evening charismatic prayer meetings, and only when I am ministering to a catholic.

My last visit was with a well-to-do catholic who is paying child support to 3 unwed women while still being married to his wife of 20 years. He really appreciated me taking him to church, and told me that he had been looking for something. I hope that meant Jesus.

I pray for the homeless on the streets of San Francisco, and occasionally walk one of those guys into a Catholic Church and say the Rosary with him. Sometimes there is a shrine out front.
