hey all.

chanced upon this part of the forum by chance, but the topics here caught my interest.

i do have a question, tho..

I'm 32, male, single, kinda without desire (actually just one desire - Jesus).  ::saint::

its easier explaining to closer friends, to whom i would just say i'm the bride of Jesus, and they'll not probe further. its cheeky, but true.

but to acquaintances...  trying to find a scriptural answer that says its ok to be single and not interested (at the moment) in seeking a relationship anytime soon. and without sounding like either a) i could be gay or b) i have some psychopathic disorder

its highly likely that God is putting off any plans  in that department cuz he knows i really dun want it between the short to medium term. long term, not fruitful to comment.
which is awesome, cuz i get more time with the one and only Saviour.

It could be that you are one of the few poeple who are actually called to be single. Thats fine. Most people arent called to be single and they want to marry but just accept that this is what you are called to do and enjoy it.

comfy

A Christian might have deep gay stuff that he or she is not aware of, and it is keeping the person from getting married. And ones say psychopaths can be loners. But you are you and not anyone else; no one else can represent what is true about you, or speak for you.

I would say you can just be how you are with people, and they can see for themselves. And anyone who has a twisted perception is not going to get whatever you offer; and you might get your foot stuck in your mouth, trying ::smile::

Paul says, "For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that." (1 Corinthians 7:7) So, I see that this is saying that being married in Jesus is a gift from God, and being chosen by God to be single is a gift from God.

If you take good advantage of being single, yes you can have more time with God. And you can mix with everyday people, in order to bring them to God or closer. Meanwhile, married Christian people can learn together how to love each other in a close relationship, then help others to find out how to love and to make their marriages work. They can help you to do better in relating with people, and you might help married folks to get closer to God. And with maturity we have the best of everything of being close to God and good at sharing with one another Christians.

So, you don't have to be an ordained person of a big-reputation religion, in order to be a celibate. Being celibate is not for status, and does not mean you are somehow superior to others so that you should be a priest or nun or bishop, or whatever higher-up. Jesus was single, and He was right with real everyday people.

1 Cor 7:8-9
8 Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
NIV

1 Cor 7:32-35
32 I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs-how he can please the Lord. 33 But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world-how he can please his wife- 34 and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world-how she can please her husband. 35 I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.
NIV

I totally understand where you're coming from. I go through stages too where I really want to be in a relationship and other times where I'm happy to just be free and single, you know? I think, if people ask just say you're currently single and ok about it. Take care and God bless you ::smile::

This best scripture defending being single is this one...  There's no commandment in the Bible to get married or to remain single.  It really is a choice.

1 Cor 7:32-40
32   But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
33   But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
34   There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
35   And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
36   But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
37   Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
38   So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.
39   The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
40   But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.
(KJV)

I know this feeling well.
Of simply wanting to be alone...romantically at least.

I enjoy my friends...I do. But since so few (and to date none) seem to understand the simple pleasures of life. Like towels in the bathroom. Washcloths in the shower, toilet paper on the dispenser....clean house and quiet nights. And an absolute all consuming passion for Jesus...

It is going to be easier to be single than to drag a dead weight around.

Help mates are really hard to come by...

So since they most likely don't exist for me...kick them all to the curb.

(in theory at least)
