What are some fun activities to do with young kids? It seems our attention spans are different and that we like FAR different things.

We do like the zoo for the most part. And watching Sponge Bob Squarepants. But there's got to be other things that we can enjoy doing together.

Ideas? These are boys we're talking about by the way.

It depends on the age. How young?

Things I did with my son;

Bowling
The Park
Hikes
Sports
Bicycle Riding
Coloring
Reading

Just off the top of my head. Ask them what they would like to do, and regardless of whether you want to do it or not, do it. Kids are easy, time consuming, but easy. The best thing you can do is just be there. You don't have to do anything as long as you are always there.

I use to have lot of fun with my DS. We use to play games like hide and seek, puzzle games, arranging the images in order, and we do painting finger paintings, crafts, and coloring pages. My DS would love to do the coloring pages of animals or cartoons or any super heros. I use to go online and collect the pages and take the print out of the same to color those pages.
LInk deleted.

My children used to love colouring and reading books. Also playing card and board games such as matching pairs, happy families, dominoes, etc. Puzzles were also very popular, painting, nature walks collecting leaves, feathers, etc. Going to the park and play ground,  playing with lego or similar, making simple cakes, hide and seek, playing in a sand pit or with water. Listening to stories on CD, also music on CD's.

My husband and I spend a lot of time with our two children outdoors.  he is an avid hiker and rock climber, so he takes the children whenever he can.  They really love to be outside all the time.  I think it is a blessing from the Lord that we don't have to struggle with pulling them away from the TV or video games, although our son is starting to get into that more.  Out daughter still marvels at the little things in nature.  A pebble, a pretty leaf, rolling in the tall grass.

Keeping up with kids seems to be the hard part, for me at least. We had our last child later in life and the older I get the harder it is to keep up.

All the activities people listed are great! We have done and do these still with our 13 year old.

However, we were looking for something more, something we could all get into and something that would be more than just an evening or afternoon outing.

We turned to Marital Arts. Specifically Taekwondo. We started our son, Max at 9 years old and we watched him for two-years. Then his Master talked my wife and I to join as well. We attended family classes together three times a week and we really began to bond.

Now my son is a 1st degree black belt. What is really fun is in a year and a half, my son will be testing for his 2nd degree black belt when my wife and I are testing for our 1st degree. Assuming all goes well.

What Taekwondo has done for my son is amazing. Here is the quick list: gave him focus, improved his respect towards others, improved his confidence, and it made him a better person.

So now we go five nights a week and get to spend an hour with our son without the electronics or other of life's interruptions.
