Does anyone have any thoughts, advice or ideas on how to deal with the loneliness I feel after getting out on my own after a divorce.  I have been divorced now for 2 weeks and I am stir crazy.  I moved to another town to get away from him and I don't know anyone yet.
I can only take so much cable tv and surfing the web.  I spend quality time in the word in the mornings and evenings. I stop and enter into prayer several times a day.
I am alright during the day but I notice that I feel more lonely and like I wish I had a companion with me in the evenings after dinner.

My marriage broke up 11 years ago and yes it is hard. I guess that I had three children at home (2 teenagers and one 21 year old) then so wasnt on my own as such, but without my husband who I had been married to for 23 years.I am now married again but did have 6 years as a single mum.

The only thing I can suggest is to get involved with things. Join a gym, go swimming, go to an exercise class, join groups at a church, fellowship groups, help out at other things there. Join an evening class and learn something new.Volunteer at a Charity shop.

If you havent joined a church yet, then do that and make friends. Do you work? If not get a job and get to know people there. If you are working all day and mixing with people, you will enjoy your time alone more. If you are at home on your own all the time then that is bad for you. The only way to get to know others is to get out there and make it happen.

Apart from that you will need to get used to being alone sometimes, as there cant always be people around you 24/7.

Yes..

Normal and customary.

You need to find a church...get involved with a small group bible study.

Get you a "little black book" filled with the people you meet and their phone numbers...so you can call them and go out with them for coffee and cake and just to hang out.

quit waiting to build a life anew...start now.

It helps me to first get into God's peace, before I try to do anything. And then be committed to whatever He wants to do with me, without me being bored or lonely, and enjoy whatever I find out He does with me.

And if I fail to get into His peace, confess this to Him and wait for however He corrects me, then see what He does with me.

The only way to meet people is to go out and meet them.

How do you support yourself?

Yes, be a blessing to others.  Think more about others than yourself.  At the same time, when you pray, check what your focus is.  Of course, we all pray for the Lord to heal us (as I'm sure you pray for healing from the broken marriage), provide for our needs and son on.  But, also, we need times where the entire focus is the Lord.  Just love on the Lord and let Him love on You.  Only Jesus can fill the loneliness and remove the sense of boredom.  You are saying that you no longer have that other person there to fill some place in your life...but now is the time to let Jesus be The One filling the place in your life.  The Holy Spirit fills us FULL of all His fruits if we ask Him to...love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, temperance and meekness.  So, ask His Holy Spirit to fill you full to overflowing.  When we just spend time in God's Presence, soaking Him in, so to speak...well, it changes us.  It causes us to feel satisfied and fulfilled and happy and whole and complete.  So, make sure, your prayer times are not just asking for things...but are, most of all, seeking HIM for who He is...as opposed to seeking Him for what He can do for you.

hey,

i got invovled in church, missions, etc... It really took my mind off of things. I would volunteer for anything that came up.

I have a friend. He had a daytime job, but to keep his mind busy he became an over qualified waiter at night. He gave quality service, did not care about tips, just enjoyed being around people. He said it was great therapy.

This situation didnt really apply to me cos I was so busy trying to be a mum, dad and provider for my three kids that I had no time to even think of myself.
if you are bored then get involved in things and get to know other people.
