Called away from me

So I have been dating a girl for a few months now, she has been one of my closest friends for years and I have been blessed with the opportunity at a solid relationship with her.

She left a few weeks ago to do mission work over the summer and though we knew that she was going to be very busy, we decided to stay in touch via the occasional text message and phone call.

A few days ago I called her to see if she was still comfortable with that arrangement now that she was done with a week, I asked because if it was taking her out of her work, if it was taking her focus off of what God was trying to do in her life, then I wanted to cut back on our communication so that she could focus.

The conversation led to her revealing to me that over the past couple of days she had been struggling because she feels like God is calling her to something else right now, feels like she needs to give everything over to him, possibly including her relationship with me.

Now I love her, and I want what is best for her and I honestly think it is amazing that God is working so strongly in her life right now....but I would like to share in it. Maybe not now while it is ongoing, but when she gets back in a few months and we are at school. Just a few days ago she was saying that she loved me and had feelings for me and I don't believe there are any underlying problems in our relationship, we have worked hard to keep it centered in the Lord and we have both generally been very happy.

I feel silly asking this...but do I have a leg to stand on in this conflict? I know she needs to do what she feels God is calling her to, but if we have feelings for one another: healthy, pure, loving feelings based in mutual respect for the unique persons that we are...wouldn't it stand to reason that we could continue to be together? That we could work to have both a closer relationship to God AND a happy relationship with each other.

I am feeling very lost in all this, any advice or incite would be much appreciated.

Thanks and God Bless

I would give it some space and keep it at the "friendship" level for now. If she's sincere she would not deny a long-distance friendship, assuming she likes you as a person.

When she comes back, take another shot at it...but for now I think you need to respect her wishes and give her space

Dude, out of sight out of mind. She likes you. Keep yourself in her thoughts & eyes & she will continue to love you.

I think you need to give her space and withdraw for now. When she returns you can see how she feels, but she seems to be implying that she wants to cool off.
If she is the one for you, then she will come back to you, and if she isnt then she wont. Leave it in Gods hands.

JohnDB

Yeah. Turn her loose, set her free; if she comes back to you it always true love. BUT if she doesn't hunt her down & destroy her completely. ROFL.

Being on the mission field kinda does that.  It wants you to remove yourself from your life.

Keep in touch, but maybe not as much.  When she returns, and gets back to her regular life, she may feel differently.  She may wish to do mission work as a life's work, and she may see the value in having a partner in it with her.

Sometimes a romantic relationship forms on the mission field.  Like a summer romance, they usually fade away when the mission is completed and they return home.

Even if she does change back to you, I'd keep an eye on that; because she may not be stable, if she can change back and forth, like that.

Everybody has their own calling under God. If she's feeling that you arn't part of hers then you have to respect that.

Girls hear from God about their life callings too you know. (JohnDB) Yes, hey have souls, and relationships with God as well. Individually. As strong as mens.

(not aimed at the OP btw.) JOHN.

Yeah...I know sweetheart. Theirs are just as important as men's. (shhhh...don't tell the guys I said that cause they might revoke my "man card")

I was just poking at the advice Chosen one gave at the op...

This is the truth.  But there's a big caveat - you have to do this without becoming desperate in her eyes.  Pursue too hard and you can also alienate her.

Find the happy medium.

Not reying to incite something here but where is your ministry ?
if two people do not have the same devotion for the Lord in ministry, all will suffer.
I know this to be a fact.
