Hello, I've returned to the forums for a short while but what brought me here is the thought of me doing somthing worng. I've found a girl who i'm currently going out with but shes a non-christian. I heard she believes there could be a God but does not believe there is. Is it wrong for me to be doing this?

God Bless,

Basherbelding

OK...
You know the answer...

If you have to ask.....

The real question I have for you at the moment is why are you even considering it? Have you slipped back some in your walk?

I know they can look very attractive...but you know that the ultimate outcome will not be fun...just look at many of the threads over in the marriage forum of those who did marry non-Christians or those who only played Christian to get the spouse...it doesn't end well at all.

Rubiegirl

John, I just wanted to add my 2 cents and say I totally agree! The Bible says be not unequally (sp?) yoked. Meaning a Christian is not suppose to Marry a non-Christian. And the the purpose of dating for Christians his marriage. Sorry but the Bible clearly warns against this.

Oh my, associating with a non-believer! How could you even think such a thing?!!!  ::doh::

Oh wait, doesn't Christ commission us to spread the Word to all His children?

Naw, probably better to consider her "unclean" and walk away before you are infected.  ::whistle::

not wise to date or marry non believers. I've seen far to many who have done this and it nearly always ends in tears. Thats why God warns against it.

He isnt talking about 'assciating with' or 'being friends with', but 'dating'. Very different things.

Very unwise to date a non believer. Apart from that, God warns us against it.(In fact He tells us not to, thats enough isnt it?)

And today's non-believer is tomorrow's believer- should anyone care to put in the effort. Sounds like he has her attention. I would say that's a good start- unless holier than thou works better.

I think that God has wisdom in this. He can be her friend, and invilte her to church or talk to her about Jesus, but going out with her is a different matter. I have seen so many bad endings for those who have done this.

Would that invitation to church be a date?  Better wear garlic around his neck!! rofl

Only about 1/3 of the world's population is Christian according to another thread in this forum.

And the world was 100% all believers in God at one time...guess what?

The chances are really slim that a confirmed agnostic is going to become a full fledged believer. In fact more than likely the believer is going to become an agnostic....and dead.

The agnostic will have murdered the Believer's soul...

so...

Dating witness isn't ever a really good idea.

I agree. The usual senario is that the believer slips away from God, and I have seen this several times.Or they marry and then the marriage suffers. I have three close friends who have non believing husbands, and its so hard for them. Or the believer has to choose between their partner and God when the partner doesn't become a Christian. In the end we either do what God says or we dont, its our decision.

Nope, I just know with Him all things are possible, and there is nothing to fear. My life is His, no one can ever take that away. That's what I know.

Clearly, God is in your heart and not merely found in the pages of a book.  Well done on all of your previous responses.

Well sputnikboy that very good advise from someone who thinks its ok to have gay realtionships.
God is all knowing and all wise and we ignore his instructions at our peril. It is not 'having Jesus in our hearts' to disobey God. That is called disobedience and thinking that we know better than Him. If God says not to do something then we arent to do it. We can reach others and be their friends without dating them.(yes it really is possible)
Basherbelding. Dont settle for second best, if you were at peace about this you wouldnt have asked. Let peace be your guide. Wait for the one that God has for you when you are ready. Be friendly with this girl but leave at at that.Put God before her and He will bless you at the right time.

Well, I gave up trying to squeeze God out of the pages of a book some time ago.  God is far too big to fit into small areas that some would rather limit Him to.  I talk to God as I would talk to you.  In private, of course, but quite randomly.  I can assure you that God is fine with gay relationships just as He is fine with a relationship between a Christian and a nonChristian.   However, feel free to contradict the message/s to my heart, mind and soul that I've gotten from God on these and other issues.

JohnDB

Ro 1:18 The wrath of God  is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
Ro 1:19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
Ro 1:20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
Ro 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Ro 1:22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
Ro 1:23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Ro 1:24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
Ro 1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Ro 1:26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.
Ro 1:27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Ro 1:28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
Ro 1:29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,
Ro 1:30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;
Ro 1:31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
Ro 1:32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Do as you will, folks. If you are afraid, then be afraid. As for me, I will make every effort to associate with the non-believer in the humble attempt to bring them to Christ. All who have sinned and not yet found our Lord are lost. The greatest love we can offer our Lord is our witness to the non-believer, but I can understand (just barely) that some might be fearful in doing that.

The homosexual is lost- I will reach out to them. The idolator is lost- I will reach out to them. The non-believer is lost- I will reach out to them.  He loves all of us, I shall do my best to love all of them. Don't date them? Get real! To love them goes far beyond dating!

I pray your fears can be overcome. You are needed. Even greater, you are commanded. Love thy neighbor, love even thine enemy. Be not of little faith, but instead find courage in His guidance. If you have truly given your life to Christ, no harm can find you. Be not afraid.

One day, perhaps the fear will leave you and you will understand.

God bless

Well, I gave up trying to squeeze God out of the pages of a book some time ago.  God is far too big to fit into small areas that some would rather limit Him to.  I talk to God as I would talk to you.  In private, of course, but quite randomly.  I can assure you that God is fine with gay relationships just as He is fine with a relationship between a Christian and a nonChristian.   However, feel free to contradict the message/s to my heart, mind and soul that I've gotten from God on these and other issues.
In all things we are "test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1st John 4:1, ESV).

How do we do that?  Do we simply, gullibly fall in line with what some internet dude who says he hears voices says, or do we have an objective standard that anyone, anywhere, voices or not, can go to and test those voices (spirits) against God's will?  Ah, thank the Lord we do indeed.  "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work." (II Timothy 3:16-17, ESV)

So, then, if the Apostle Paul, chosen by Christ Jesus and inspired by the Holy Spirit, says we can go to God's word to know the will of God, what does that word say on this matter, and does what the spirit you've conversed with line up?  God won't contradict His own word, but other spirits will, and we must be discerning.  After all, "even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we [the apostles] preached to you, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:8, ESV)  And here is what it says:

Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." (NIV)

Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." (NIV)

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." (NIV)

It appears that whatever spirit is telling you it's OK is twisting some tails.  Not unlike the serpent in the garden, because God's word seems pretty clear, and the spirit in this case arguing differently fails the test.  The word clearly says God does not approve of homosexuality.  The good news is that it also shows those who come to Jesus and leave it behind are as loved and forgiven as any other sinner, which we all have been.

As to this:
QuoteI gave up trying to squeeze God out of the pages of a book some time ago.
No one is squeezing God out of the pages of a book.  That's just a straw man.

Did he really just say that?  ::giggle:: ::crackup:: Oh snap!!!!

I can assure you one thing and one thing only; if when you are talking to God, He says that gay relationships are accepting to Him then you are most certainly not talking to God. At least not the God of Abraham and more likely the little "g" god of the world.

I... and I can't believe the words that are coming out of me mouth, agree with chosenone. God's mandate is clear on this matter and we, as His children, are meant to uphold that mandate.

Look Basher, I'm a guy too and trust me when I say I know how attractive, fun and exciting some of these non believers can be. However as men lets be honest. Sense when do we have a clue whats right or wrong for us? I mean really. We may believe with all our hearts that its this or that until we are presented with something that captivates us beyond our current. The thing is that we only know whats right for us to the extent of how well we know ourselves. Although some of us know who we are better than others, nobody knows us like God not even our own selves. So don't be so anxious. God has prepared a woman splendid and incomparable who's love for you will be second only to her love for Him and her kids I hear(apparently a mother is far more loving than a wife.lol)

In any event, rest assured. Be this girl's friend show her the ropes and help her as she grows closer to committing to God and who knows, it may be in God's will for her to choose you but she has to choose God first or you will just end with an incomplete version of the master God meant to for you.

It's not a matter of forgiving unbelief, it's praying for increased strength of faith. You see, I have surrendered "to the mercy of the wisdom and will of God". And with that, I am not afraid. My life is given to Him- and safe from all harm.

So I am assuming that you think its Godly for christians and nonchristians to date, get married etc.?

I'm wondering how that fits when marriage is a holy union formed by God in yet one of the two don't even acknowledge His existence?

Certainly!

One of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together. Knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the greatest of all?"  Jesus answered, "The greatest is,  you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. The second is like this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these." - Mark 12:28-31

Come unto Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light
