I hope the NFL lockout/stile lasts at least a decade or so. I heard Adrian Peterson feels like NFL owners are behaving like slave owners. Give me a break you 10.72 million dollar "slave".

$10.72 million a year?  What's he doing sticking around that hell hole?

Yeah, it's hard to feel sorry for a dude moron that plays 17 or so games a year and makes more than the payroll of the medium sized company I work for. I say to heck with all the players AND the owners.

Pretty sad that a player complains about 10+ million a year. The players and their leadership are fools, since they are locked out they are not getting paid while the owners continue to do business in their many business adventures.  The owners know that many of the players will begin to run out of money (since very few players have real jobs or business ventures outside of football) to support their lavish lifestyles and that will break their backs.

The owners want a 50/50 split after they get the first 2 Billion (right now it is a 60/40 split in favor of the players after the first Billion). Factoring in the first 2 billion for the owners this works out to be a 60/40 split for the owners. I can't think of any business where the employees get 40% of the revenue generated yet the NFL Players Union think this is a terrible deal. Considering the avg salary for an NFL player is $770,000 and the minimum salary is $310,000, the players get no sympathy from me.

Much of the money the owners would be getting back is in realistic rookie salaries, no more paying 50 million dollars to someone who has never played a down in the NFL.

If the players think they are getting such a raw deal why don't they start their own league and see how much it costs to run a team, its employees, its stadiums, its charter travel,  its concessions, its media, etc...

I think the owners are quite content to wait out the players. the players will begin to cave in August when they realize that the 2011 season and their income is in grave jeopardy. A deal will get done in early September and we will have a 16 game season in 2011 with an 18 games schedule beginning in 2012.

There's not a one of us in this room who would put up with the physical toll playing professional football takes on a body for $310,000 a year.

And BTW, the avg NFL career lasts 3 and 1/2 seasons.

That is minimum salary... the AVERAGE salary is $770,000, so if the AVERAGE Career is 3.5 years this means the average NFL player takes home about $2.6 Million in less than 4 years. I'm 42 and I figure in my lifetime I have earned about half what an NFL player makes in 3.5 years. I love the NFL but I ain't shedding any tears for these players... especially those who compare what they do to "Slavery", Really??? Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, he made it much worse for the players association, no one has Peterson's back on this comment...

It's been tried more than once, and for the most part, it failed.  However, there have been a few exceptions.  The old AFL. Arena Football.............still, I agree that they are overpaid.  Then again, the fan is overcharged as well, and the Owners seek overprofit IMO.  The wholedarnthing is a mess..........much of the reason I watch NCAA Football and not so much the Pros.

Hmmmmm, maybe they (the Universities) should have a NCAA Lock-out?  Asking the players to give up the idea of receiving a college educaiton in exchange for playing football?  What with the price of a good college educaiton these days.........shoot......

::shrug::
'course, then, what would be the motivation for the players to play?  I miss Johnny Unitas and them guys, they played because they loved to play.  Doubt it?  Johnny U's signing bonus from the Baltimore Colts was the "cab fare" he was charged when he showed up at their training camp.  That's "loving the game" IMO.

Is that a median, mean, or mode average?

And weren't you the one who said most players have "no job, business interests outside of football?"  So their NFL career earnings might represent LIFETIME earnings - right?

I realize these guys get to play a game for a living - an extremely punishing, physically demanding game. A game that turns them into cripples.

It's pretty disingenuous to make this all about overpaid, pampered crybabies.  It's not as cut and dried as that.

The day we quit using tax money to build places for these very well paid guys, owners and players, to go to work, then perhaps I will become a little more sympathetic for both sides.

If a football player never had anearning opportunity after football, Old Dad might have a point. Players have more than ample opportunity to cash in on notoriety, even the not famous. I also might be able to muster up some sympathy for the average salary guys, but never the multi million dollar prima donnas that make stupid remarks like Peterson did.

Mike Vrabel of the KC Chiefs has challenged owners Jerry Jones, Bob Kraft and Jerry Richardson to meet directly with him and several player reps without Roger Goodell and the NFL Labor Attorneys.

The 3 owners immediately accepted and said name the time and place, as of this writing there has been no response from Vrabel and the other player reps, sounds like they were not prepared for a yes answer from the owners...

If I were Mike Vrabel you think you would have thought this out already before issuing a challenge like this and had a time and date ready to go, even if they do set up a time and date the lag time in their response clearly shows they were not prepared for the owners response.

It seems like every time a player opens his mouth they are making it worse and worse... The owners motto appears to be "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick"

The owners are selfish.  The players are selfish.  Everybody is selfish.  Let's just cut the pay down, use that money to pay off some debt or give SOLDIERS a raise, and let's watch some good Monday Night Football!

What does any of that have to do with the fact the $11 million a year dude is a crybaby?

I'm hip, pal.  It's like a dude who wants to sell beer demanding taxpayers build him a pub.

As for the lockout, who cares. We've got baseball now through October; they'll probably figure it out by then.
