I was wondering if there were any parents on here with autistic kids or siblings etc?

Me! I have a daughter with mild autism + adhd, she was diagnosed when she was 6 and now she is 14.. It was really a struggle for me in dealing with it because its new to me, my family or relatives doesn't having this disorder so what I did was searched (done my own research) and sought help from professionals, its really hard at first but you get use to it somehow. What made it easier was the alternative programs that me and my daughter was able attend and until now we are still joining it. Programs such as individual counseling, family therapy, support groups, camps and therapeutic school. Currently she is in an adhd friendly school, which I think is good because their approach is individualized and they really focus on the needs of my daughter.

I have an 8 year old who either has mild asbergers syndrome and/or bipolar disorder. We aren't sure which at this point and the only way to know for sure would be to have a brain scan done and that is something that we absolutely cannot afford. Bipolar runs very strong in his father's family and a little in mine as well, but there are some very obvious asbpergers symptoms there too. Either way the treatment protocal is the same and the combination of special one on one time at school and at home and medication is working very well for him. He made the honor roll this nine weeks!  ::clappingoverhead::  ::disco::

I have a son who is almost 17 with Aspergers.  He is doing really well now.  I homeschooled him when he was young, and now he attends a charter high school where he has social skills groups and speech therapy.  His speech therapist recommended a wonderful book written in graphic form entitled, "Social Fortune, Social Fate."  It teaches kids how to decode others social signals and act appropriately.

I have a 27 yr old son with Autism. There was no medication or therapy available for it back then.
They didn't even have asbergers, just Autistic type A, B, or C. I wouldn't change a thing about him.

I have  a grandson who is severe Autistic.  He lives with my wife and I, because we have more time that we can give him.  In some area's, he is extremely intellect, in others, he is just the opposite.  He had a very hard time learning to stress himself.  It seem like it took us a long time to show him how to dress himself.   We caught it very early, (within his first year or so)  so he is making some great progress.  Regardless what the professional world tells you, about how to deal with such children, it cannot supersede the wisdom found in Proverbs, and the scriptures overall! They are indeed very high maintenance, yet, the infinite wise and merciful God, had a  godly purpose for everything that comes into the life of his own.

I have a 9 year old son with autism. He's something else....believe it or not he is a real prayer warrior. That boy prays for everything! I love that about him and it really inspires me to build my prayer life.
