I was married for 23 years. During our marriage, there was years of lying, possible infidelity, etc.   I reached a point that I couldn't trust or believe my husband anymore and filed for divorce.  Now that everything is final,  I carry a lot of guilt. I feel like I've ruined his life.  However, I've had family and several close friends who supported me through this and kept telling me I was doing the right thing.  I was very unhappy in our marriage and when I would tell him that we needed to work on things, his response was we will, just wait until work settles down, or this, or that.     Is this feeling normal?     I spent many years praying for direction from God. I know He hates divorce, but I came to a point that I told myself God wouldn't want me to continue to live in this situation miserable.

Hi, Limille . . . I have been told how someone could want a divorce, but later did not get the satisfaction, but pain about it, instead. So . . . now . . . we pray and offer ourselves to God. And He can guide us.

If there was infedility then the divorce was allowed,(although you dont seem sure) but could it be that you feel guilty because it wasnt what God wanted you to do? The point now is that it is done. You are no longer married, and you cant go back. I would pray about it, appologise to God, and let Him speak to you about it. I am sure that you will learn a lot through this, and will also learn to hear Him more clearly. Then oncew you have been forgiven, you need to move on.
I divorced my first husband of 23 years for very serious sexual sin, and I have never felt guilty for a second. I knew all along that it was what God wanted. This was 11 years ago.

First, I am sorry to know this. Did you seek the face of God before filing for divorce. You were advised by friends but you left God out. I pray God will comfort you.

In 2009 I (not literally) threw my wife out of the house and told her I wanted a divorce. There was no infidelity on either part. I wanted something new. After trying something new I realized what a mistake I had made. I sought reconciliation for 18 months, remained celibate. She considered it but in the end we realized that it was not fixable. I am proceeding with the divorce now. Along the way I met a few guys who have experienced similar feelings to what you describe. I presume that I will feel that way as well. I tried really hard but what if I had waited longer? Marriage is such a huge thing. What is bigger besides our relationship with God? I think it is natural to have remorse but that doesn't necessarily mean that you made the wrong decision.
