Question to the Solos:

You are sitting at home, and don't have much to do.  You've already cleaned the house from top to bottom - how do you spend your time?

I'll start: I am a single mother, so I am not home alone most days (which is nice). My son is almost 11, so I get to enjoy time with him. However, since he is growing up, our priorities have shifted. He enjoys video games, so a lot of times, we'll eat dinner together, then he'll go in his room and play his video games while I watch TV or play around on my computer. And of course when we are going out, I have him to enjoy that time with as well (which we must do that more often...)

But, for the days he's not home (with grandparents/etc), it can be tough because the house is super quiet. So those days, I'll either watch tv, invite a girl-friend over, or go to my mom's house and spend time with family there. My mom, my brother, and my uncle are all single, so that helps a lot (smile).

But what about you folks who don't have children and/or all the family are married off? What do you do?

I am becoming quite astute at video games and I am becoming well known on video game forums.

I work a lot, sometimes 60+ hours a week so anytime I can just sit for a quiet while is awesome :)

I enjoy putting my house together, cleaning, etc.  I am actively involved in the horse show world and have a great group of pals.

I hate being alone. When I was married I didn't mind being alone because I always knew I'd be with my family soon. Now that I'm dating someone I see her 2-5 times per week so that's cool but on the night's I don't see her I feel like something is missing. When I'm not dating I feel like a loser if I don't have a date for Friday and Saturday, or at least a male friend to go the movies or something. I should learn to be more content.

Good you recognize that. When I am alone (son with family), it's tough sometimes. I'm usually tempted to call up an old flame. Contentment takes work though. You got to want it then work at it. I've been dateless for over a year now, but I feel I'm in such a good place in my adult life. I could've up and dated someone, but why do that when obviously I need to heal? But anyway, I feel you. I'm better, but home alone is not easy at times. Recently I've got to the point where I'm alone physically but God is with me and I'm ok. Real talk.

So cool! What kind of work do you do? I've picked up swing out/Chicago step dancing and that's been fun. I would like to meet people in the process. Networking they call it. :-) I started Kung Fu classes. It's good for what it is, but I don't enjoy it. I'm on a contract :-(, so I plan to commit, but for me, other forms of exercise/activity are better. My uncle told me a out a place in my city where I can ride horses I plan to do that one day. Plus my son and I have spent more time together since I don't work full time right now. Another cool thing. He's into basketball, and that's going well....

I'm a customer service supervisor for the biggest cell carrier :)  I have a top ten team of 14 excellent reps that I am extremely proud of.  We have unlimited overtime most of the year except *sometimes* March so the work is there.

I also have a side job of braiding for horse shows, I have clients nationwide that I braid for when they show out this way.  I will be headed to Scottsdale, AZ in Feb for the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, I can't wait!

It will be a working vacation LOL!!

Maybe you could offer to eat a kung fu diet and just have dinner at the classes?  LOL!!

Um, I go to class, work on computer science homework, study, practice my violin, write in a book I'm trying to finish, work out . . . work parking security, sometimes teach violin students, play a gig (usually play violin for a wedding, sometimes for other occasions).

And sleep. Man, I am a really big fan of getting adequate amounts of sleep . . .

But I have to admit, I can find myself stuck watching YouTube for far too much time when I should be working.  ::frown::

What kind of book are you writing? I started writing a novel a year ago but I haven't worked on it in a few months.

Why, it's an awesome book. It will have to be filed under the genre of awesome.  ::cool::

It's a sci-fi epic, that's evolved directly out of my walk and studies with God--has a way of tying my knowledge and understanding together. It's turned out to be more than a hobby, since it's proven to be my own spiritual food.  ::smile::

I persue my interests as every solo person should. I even travel alone abroad and domestic. I don't let being solo hinder me from doing anything.

Sounds interesting. My book is about an engineer who stops the 2nd plane from hitting the World Trade center on 9/11. He becomes a celebrity which contributes to the downfall of his marriage. The plan was for them to reconcile. I started it when there was still hope for reconciliation for my marriage. Now that that has passed I haven't decided how to make that part end. There is a lot of spy stuff going on too. Talking about it makes me want to pick it up.

What can you share about your plot without giving away too many details?

That kind of sounds like Fireproof's idea of the firefighter hero who has a downfall in his marriage.

No offense intended with that comparison.  ::lookaround::

My story is set WAY in the future, a thousand years after the first and only interglobal war between the Earth and the (fairly) recently colonized planets which was ended by the invention of a supercomputer called "Dominus" believed to have the ability to calculate the future--whether by statistics, or if at all, is unknown. At any rate, it rules the neighboring worlds as the Earth was rebuilt over the next 1,000 year history without people really understanding what's going on or what the original designers intended.

The plot? There's a lot of it--hard to sum up quickly. The same threat that caused the war threatens to return, along with revelation of how many things at present play into the original plans of Dominus' creation. A lesson, a story, which (in an extremely round-about way) goes into the subject of who God really is, "I Am" and "The Alpha and the Omega," and showing that Christ is the only viable option for humanity.

Tough to sum up. Action, mystery, intrigue, romance (I guess), fictional technology, etc. Most importantly it answers the hardest questions I've ever asked (or heard asked) in my life in a holistic manner, from the personal to the abstract, altogether.

Wycliffes_Shillelagh

Sounds like fun.  I'm writing a steampunk fic with three storylines.  The first revolves around the new king traveling to find a lost person, with his father, the exiled and former king.  The second deals with the deposed former princess escaping prison and seeking refuge among the colonies of the empire.  She is plotting to take back her kingdom, but she is either losing her mind, or slowly learning humility.  Maybe both.  The third deals with an important international ambassador and his girl.  Their relationship was born in times of crisis, and now that it's over, they're having some difficulty filling the time they suddenly have together.  Things are boring, and so they are going to have to go looking for trouble, I think.

I'm not xactly single though, so it's coming along veeeery slowly.
