So I guess it's still true what they say--"History shows again and again How nature points up the folly of men."

Go go Godzilla!

Sorry, Blue Oyster Cult is playing nearby tomorrow night and the promos are starting to get to me.

I'm a big Godzilla fan.  I was really surprised and excited to hear a few months ago that two of the latest Godzilla films, "Godzilla X Megagirus"(2000) and "Godzilla-Mothra-King Ghidorah:  Giant Monsters All Out Attack"(2001) were going to be shown on the Sci Fi channel this month.  Any other Godzilla fans out there?
This upcomming Sunday (the 31st) in the afternoon is when the films will show.  Check out the sci fi channel's web site for the times of the movies.

The following is what little information I've been able to gather about the films.

"Godzilla X Megagurius":  Godzilla is once again on the rampage.  The Japanese Self Defense Force has formed a special anti-Godzilla unit, the G-graspers, to take care of the problem.  The solution:  A special weapon that when fired will create a small worm hole, pulling Godzilla into another dimension, thus ridding Earth of the beast.  If only it were that easy. . .
During the testing of the weapon, a portal to the prehistoric past is opened, and a swarm of prehistoric insects invade Japan. . .  Only Godzilla, the very creature man is trying to destroy, can save humanity from this menace.

"Godzilla-Mothra-King Ghidora:  Giant Monsters All Out Attack":
This film, like the others in the "Millenium" Godzilla series that started in 1999 with "Godzilla 2000," is not related in anyway to any of the previous films aside the original 1954 classic that started it all.
In this film, Godzilla is not the result of a dinosaur ressurected through nuclear weapon testing, but the embodiment of the "war dead," the anger of the souls lost in WW II comming back to haunt Japan.
The three main islands of Japan hold secret guardians of old, creatures that protected Japan in the past.  They are King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Baragon.
Godzilla comes back to Japan after decades of silence, with a terrifying rage.  The guardians of Japan must be awakened if Godzilla is to be stopped.  Can they defeat the mighty beast?

Well, if there are indeed any Godzilla fans in here, enjoy, if not, guess I just wasted your time  :p

P.S.  Two more Godzilla films have been made, one last year, and one that was just completed a few weeks ago.  They are "Godzilla X MechaGodzilla" and "Godzilla-Mothra-MechaGodzilla:  Tokyo S.O.S." (unlike the others in the millinium series, these films are obviously related.  Part 3 will be produced next year just in time for Godzilla's 50th birthday.  MechaGodzilla in this trillogy is a cyborg.  A robotic machine run by a "DNA" computer, the dna extracted from the bones of the original Godzilla destroyed by the Oxygen destroyer.  It's possible that next years film will be Godzilla versus Godzilla)

At 2 pm, yesterday afternoon, I was sitting in front of my tv, ready to enjoy two brand new Godzilla movies.  I was not disapointed.

"Godzilla X Megaguris" was a very enjoyable, simply fun film to watch.  It was a refreashing entry to the series, and it seemed more fun than Godzilla 2000.  My only gripe is that Toho wasn't allowed a very large budget, and while most of the special effects were very good, there were a few very emberassing sceens, primarily when Megaguris first appears, you can practicly see every single wire used to make it fly.
I was really surprised Toho released a film with something that obvious.  However, when films are released on DVD and VHS,  usually the picture is enhanced, made more sharp, and the black level is improved.  Possibly the orignial film prints took care of the wires, but the Scifi channel used DVD or VHS with enhanced film, which would probably make it easier to see the wires.  Oh well, so much went on in that film that I soon forgot about the silly wires for a little while. . .

"Godzilla-Mothra-King Ghidorah:  Giant Monsters All=Out Attack"
wow..., all I can say is wow  :p  The special effects are easily equal to the quality of most current American films.  The budget for this film was much greater than the Budget for the previous Godzilla X Megaguris because that film did so well in Japan.
The monster action blends in so well with the real environments and people, that it looks so real.  The music is really nice too, done by a famous Japanese film composer, his first time on a Godzilla movie.
The dubbing also didn't seem to bother me.  As far as I know, it conveyed the film's actual story completely, and it wasn't really annoying at all.
I don't know when Sony will actually release this film on DVD and VHS over here, but this is a must have for any Godzilla fan, and even if you aren't that interested in Godzilla, I still suggest you give this one a look, it's that good.
