Because it is serious comedy that shows the Modern world for the decadence it is (and yet is also full of near slapstick), I rate The Visitors as the most important comedy film made. The main character is a Medieval knight who does all he does for God and family and honor, while the Modern world is shown to be at least as crass and vile as the knight's peasant page.
