Matthew 15:8 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

Well, in the time we are currently living this has become acceptable, although the word of God remain the same. If I am not mistaken, I read a study on CNN which stated that 80% of young Christian are sexually active. This is a clear indication of how rampant that sin has become in the church. The fact that you have christian saying that it's okay to engage in sexual activity outside of marriage is troubling to me. I discuss that issue on a number of sites, what pisses me off is that people who identify themselves as christian who should should have been on your side defending what the Bible has to say about that issue. Guess what? they are the one going after you as being judgmental.

At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.
When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
   "No one, sir," she said.

"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Jn 8:2-11

Jesus didn't start questioning her, he instructed her. And that is what we should do if led to do so.

On a side note, I have always wondered what Jesus writing?

Thank you Lively Stone. That is quite interesting what you posted in that thread.

Your body is not of your own. Sex should be something shared between a husband and a wife, not outside of marriage.

Aahil

I've seen only a very few Christians articulate that they approve of sex outside of marriage.  But, obviously, most Christians do approve of sex outside of marriage, at least they offer objection except maybe a nominal statement that it's wrong, if cornered.   Our society has become very sexually immoral and many Christians are more a part of our society more than they are a part of God's kingdom.

If I ran this forum, or a church, I'd expel anyone who claimed to be a Christian but admitted to, or is known to, be in an immoral lifestyle.  The Bible and godliness demands no less.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but born again Christians who are not deceived agree with God about fornication---it is a sin. Don't lump compromisers in with true believers.

Judged and condemned.

Seems a tad bit harsh to me, is it not our duty as Christians to offer correctness by teaching the Gospel to those that are obviously ignorant to it's scriptures?

I've actually heard young couples rationalize it in this way:

"Well, we're engaged.  Back "then" the marriage started when an agreement was reached.  We're agreeing that we're getting married. . . " ::doh::

::frown::  I have not heard that before.

I always wondered since she was "caught in the act", where was other culprit. Why they just brought the woman & not the man as well. Could it be possible her accusers were her co-culprits as well?

Quote"Well, we're engaged.  Back "then" the marriage started when an agreement was reached.  We're agreeing that we're getting married. . . "

Except the "agreement" was usually years before consumation, typically about age 7-9. Then came the betrothal which was (for the guy) around age 12-13 and the consumation came around a year later.

What He wrote...no one has a clue.
But she actually was what was known as a "put away" wife. Where a husband would kick a wife out of his home for whatever reason. She could not get divorced as she would have no access to the courts. So she would usually either shack up with someone or marry another man and not let him know about her current legal status. She got caught doing just that.

The reason Jesus did not accuse her of being an adulteress was that He had made it clear that the original husband in such situations was going to be charged with the wife's adultery and not her.

How do you know this, being that the Bible says nothing other than she was committing adultery?

I've never heard of a Christian promoting sex outside of marriage.

Huh. Who woulda thunk that?

Havent actually heard any promoting it, but know plenty doing it or who have done it and who cant seem to see that is wrong. Their churches dont seem bothered either and dont challenge them.

Do you think, most churches do not teach against fornication or is it that they teach it and people do not follow that law of God ?  Often times, Pastors do teach from the Word about fornication but a Pastor can not Make a person follow the teachings.

Any comments?

I am curious to know how many "Christians" think it's okay to have sex outside of marriage. Even though the Bible condemns sex outside of marriage, I keep hearing of people who profess to be a Christian yet still have sex before marriage.

What's your opinion on this?

My opinion is that it is a sin to have sex outside of marriage because God said so.  Having said that, I believe it is a sin that can be forgiven, the same as any other sin except for the sin of unbelief.  If you are born again you are going to Heaven, period.  You will not stop sinning but your sins are covered by the atoning blood of Jesus.

Both. Some pastors teach this and some dont. Mine does. I Hear of many believers who think nothing of sleeping with their partners. Even if their pastors dont teach it, its all in the Bible.

My Pastor teaches on fornication too. You are right, as Believers we are to study the Bible and that is definately in there, to avoid fornication.
