Since the Reformation and the Enlightenment, leading Protestants, Secularists, and Jews have become convinced of the truth of the claims of the Catholic Church to be that Church established by Jesus Christ.
Many such Protestants over the years have abandoned their careers and prominence in Protestantism to convert to Catholicism.

This is true now more than ever, and a large and growing body of convert literature attests to the strength of this movement. Each year, an estimated 200,000 converts are received into the Catholic Church, despite the anti-catholic propaghanda by the secular media and fundamentalists.

J.I. Packer recently wrote in Christianity Today (May 1989) that the contrast between the "zany wildness" of Protestantism and the "at-homeness" of Catholicism alone is sufficient to explain conversions to Catholicism.
It is the only Church that can, and does, claim institutional continuity from the time of Christ to the present. He contrasts the "at home" motive with a more genuine longing for the truth.

Augustus Pugin, the man who designed the Westminster Palace tower and Big Ben clock, converted to the Catholic Church in 1835
He said his conversion came primarily as a result of studying ancient ecclesiastical architecture

In 1998, more than 88,000 Protestants were received into the Catholic Church.

From 1993-2001, 300 Protestant clergy contacted the Coming Home Network, a ministry for Protestant clergy and laity interested in becoming Catholic; two-thirds have already been received into the Church.
The revival has not escaped the notice of Evangelical Protestant leaders; Larry Eskridge of the Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals at Wheaton College comments:
"I have been concerned about the growing exodus from evangelicalism of some of its brightest and best

while many poorly-informed, Biblically-illiterate, inactive, culturally Catholic people become Episcopalian or Evangelical based on preferences or without serious intellectual consideration, the converts to Catholicism are from among the sincerest,
most active, best-informed, most Biblically-literate, and best-read Evangelicals, Episcopalians, etc.
Put more simply still, it's easy to find numerous Catholics who were once high-level, well-respected Protestant leaders, but very rare to find any Evangelicals or other Protestants who were once high-level, well-respected Catholics.
The Catholic Priests who convert to other denominations are often liberal and thought they knew better than the Church long before they left.
They neither care about obeying the Church or the Bible.

St, Elizabeth Ann Seton, and American saint and convert from Anglicanism, saw the beauty and Biblical defense of Catholicism
Seton, whose prayer was, "If I am right Thy grace impart still in the right to stay.
If I am wrong Oh, teach my heart to find the better way."
Mr. Hobart (afterwards an Anglican bishop), who had great influence over her, used every effort to dissuade her from joining the Catholic Church
She added much fasting and prayer and continued praying for light
She was rejected by Protestant family and friends and persecuted for her choice.
She and a fellow Catholic began opening schools but the Protestant majority condemned it as a prosthelytizing tacticts and had the schools closed
After much persecution, she managed to make converts from family and friends and eventually opened a Catholic School for girls that had the protection of the Church.

Cardinal Newman, a 19th century writer, theologian, and Anglican priest, made being British and being Catholic acceptable, scholars say
He was under every pressure to not betray the Church of England.
"He's a heroic figure, an Anglican star who became Catholic, showing we can be both very British and very Catholic,

The Church enforces what Christ taught
In the Bible the Church is known as the Bride of Christ
that is where Mother Church comes from

It takes an imbecile to say that the Church Christ founded is the wh*re of Babylon
Thank you for demonstrating your arrogance and brainlessness

Alethlos, I believe you previously said that you were ignoring me from here on out
that shows how long you're able to stick to your resolutions

If Christ didnt found the Catholic Church, tell me who did?

Every other Church has a human founder, why not the Catholic Church.

Tell me Constantine and you have given more evidence of another ill-adviced ignorameous who needs prayer and perhaps a good Bible study and History lesson ::doh::

"many daughters (Protestants) who are also harlots in the earth."--Alethlos

What a wise and humble Christian you are.  Let's see what idiotic thing he will come up with next ::frown::
By the way, you are a Protestant, you follow the SoloScriptura Doctrine of Martin Luther
You are indeed protesting.  You are indeed a protestant
Stop calling yourself another harlot in the earth
And stop calling your protestant buddies on this forum such fowl names
Have I gone so far as to call anyone on this forum a "wh*re"
Looks like you cant handle losing an arguement
Grow up!

The Counter Reformation is at work as you rightly state - I am showing you its fulfilment. You should be grateful for the insight.

And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. (Revelation 17:6)

Have a look at those words of John "great admiration" and show us what they mean.

Of course you understand John was shown this ecclesiastical wh*re do you not?

matt1

Alethlos
The book of Revelation contains much that is not to be taken literally
There is nothing that states that the wh*re of revelation is a church that teaches that Jesus is Lord
and Extolls the teachings of Christ
To jump to such a conclusion and state it as a fact is asinine-extremely stupid and foolish

First of all, no Pope has ever lived or had his "seat" (cathedra or cathedral) on any of the seven hills of Rome.

At the time that John wrote Revelation the Christians of Rome lived mostly in Trastevere (trans Tiber), a district "across the Tiber" from the City and adjacent to the Vatican hill where St. Peter was crucified and buried.
The Vatican is on top of that burial site and is today its own city-state distinct from Rome and Italy.

So, of what was St. John speaking when he wrote Revelation on the island of Patmos around 96 AD? Obviously of the pagan imperial system situated on the Seven Hills, especially the Capitoline
(the religious and political center) and the Palatine  (the imperial palace).
This pagan power persecuted the Church of Rome in Nero's day (64-67 AD), and in the mid-90s under Domitian was persecuting Christians throughout the Roman world.
Domitian was considered by the people a re-incarnation of the evil, but well-liked, Nero (the head that lives again).
While the antichrist Nero persecuted only the Christians of Rome, Domitian extended that persecution throughout the empire.
Both are thus types of the final persecutor, the Antichrist.

Alethlos,
Your interpretation of Revelation is Childish and nonsensical
Please Grow up!
you never answered my question.  Who founded the Catholic Church?  Give me a first and last name, a year when it was established.
Im waiting...

Truth.

I have often wondered and even more so today as ever if the "great falling away" from the faith is those who take the route into Catholicism rather than walking with the Lord by faith.

I have reason to believe that the Catholic church will be the "One World Relgion" that the one world religious leader heads up on behalf of the Anti Christ when that time comes to pass.

It will be the one relgion that is not Jewish that will still have a large congregation after the rapture to carry on the pratices and proclimations of the church. People will rush to sign up. It won't be Islam, because it will take a world power to bring the Religion to the forefront during that time. Islam has no base, no center to them.  Which is the Vatican and the Anti Christ together. Because they have no true North to follow, it will be easy for the Anti Christ to step in with his deception and place his man in power over that religion, and cause the world to believe it.

I realize this has probably come up before, and those here who are Catholic now don't appreciate this point of view. But, that church that it will become, is After the rapture and not the Church we all know today. Those truely saved in the Catholic church will be gone in the rapture and won't even be a part of it when it happens. Peace

FireSword

Trouble is that if the catholic church becomes the one world religion it will have to abandon Jesus christ and worship the devil, beast and false prophet and worship creature rather than the creator.

Maybe the great falling away, will mean people following the devil and the beast, who sits in the temple.

Not at first, not until after the first 3 1/2 years will that happen. The first 3 1/2 years he will profess to be a man of God, and there will be peace, as he mounts up followers through the religious leader.  There cannot be a one world religion, without the one world religious leader who is striving to bring all religions into one. There will be one declared relgion that will be lead by the man who the Anti Christ appoints, who is already in a large trusted relgion. The people won't know, they will be unaware for a time, they will follow the religion and the religious leader until it's too late.

No other religion on earth has the Center or world known leader that Catholicism has. The Vatican, and the Pope are the avenues the Anti Christ will need and use to bring the world to one religion.

I'm not saying it is this Pope, not at all. It will be a man who is in the position (after the true saints are gone)who falls for the words of peace and reconciliation of the world that are spoken by the one world government leader, who is the Anti Christ. He will beguile the leader of the Catholic church, who in return will beguile the whole of the Catholic church, and bring those lost in the chaos of the world to that religion. Of course for the betterment of the world (they will claim), they will together convince those on earth who have had no faith, that it is better for the world to have one religion and bring them into it.

The saddest thing is that those on earth at that time, won't even realize they are falling for the lie. They will think they are reaching for faith when they are following the lie into a religion that won't have God in it at all anymore. For He will have taken the true saints out of it. Those who trust it after that will be falling for the lies of the devil and will give him all worship and praise, taking his mark and signing their fate for eternity.

There should be no reason to put this on the Catholic Church.
If there is going to be a "One World Religion" it would mean that all religions would have grown cold to the extend that Jesus Christ would no longer be the center.

This would equally mean that Protestantism is going to dilute and the Anti Christ may as well originate from the Protestant church.

Oh, I think after the true church is gone, all denoms will break down. But, this church is the only one that has a leader who is recognized around the world. No other one really does. No other religion has a Pope.

Where in Revelation does it say the wh*re of Babylon will be a Church.
The Catholic Church believes Jesus Christ is Lord and savior, and whether you like it or not, the Catechism condemns the worship of anyone other than the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Any Catholic who chooses to worship someone other than God, disobeys what the Church teaches about true worship belonging to God alone.
The Catholic Church teaches that Humility, self-denial, chastity, caring for the sick, the orphan, the homeless, the elderly, and feeding the hungry is Caring for Christ himself.
As our Lord makes this very clear.
That doesnt sound evil or satanic to me.

It wouldnt make sense for the Church to be the wh*re of Babylon because the Church condemnes what is immoral
How do you know the wh*re of Babylon wont be a one world anti-Christian Socialist Government like the USSR?
I think that the One world Government/Religion will appeal in the same way that the Devil appeals to people, Pleasure, wealth, pride, sex, abortion, immodesty, selfishness, homosexual rights, power etc.
The Catholic Church has always been hated by communists and secular media.
The Church has little control over anybody today and there is no sign that the nations want to unite under the CHurch.
In fact, many of people who call themselves Catholic, do not agree or believe what the Church teaches
And are pushing for all sorts of liberal reforms.
Yes the Church has many members but to say that it is on the verge of having the power of a one world religion is ridiculous.
Roman Catholicism is the most hated religion in the world.
It is the only religion that people call the wh*re of Babylon.
Communists, Muslims, Pagans, Protestants,  Liberals, and especially other Catholics have done what they can to destroy the Church.
They have failed.
Since a good portion of Catholics reject and rebel against what the Church teaches and they aren't getting punnished for it, that is a sign that the Church isnt trying to control or force their belief's on anyone.

They do teach those things in theory, but in action, the church has been well known for having sin in the system all the way to the top. They are a government in their own right, and they have harbored unrepentent sinners for centuries... from the beginning. Popes have had children with mistress's and committed or ordered the murder of anyone who chose to speak out against sin. The day to day Catholic is a good person who wants to please God, but the system has been corrupt. The church's power is not what the Anti Christ will be interested in. He will have his own power, but he will use the Church for it's ability to reach around the world and for their well known one man leader system.

I'm not putting this on the Catholic Church of today either AVZ... it is the church left behind, the empty system that the Anti Christ will use to place his own man in authority and the place of leadership for a people who do know have discernment and do not know or understand who the true church was.

The rapture is a modern belief
it is great to think that God will spare us all the suffering and take us body and soul into heaven in a great rapture
however, the early Christians and the Christians throughout the Century were tortured and murdered for their faith
I dont see what makes us so special that we get spared everything and raptured?

I personally dont see the rapture in Scripture or the book of revelation
For all we know, "One will be taken, another will be left behind" could just mean some will be martyred for the Faith (go to heaven)
and others will be left behind

The Rapture is biblical.

What is special is being chosen by God to live in the last generation on earth, and be the ones to experience the end of this age. There will be a last generation, that is a given.

I didnt tell him anyone can prove that the Catholic Church is the true faith

Show me the Historical figure who founded the Church and in what year/century
Give me some Historical evidence about when and where the catholic Church was founded

We know where the Calvanists, the seventh day adventists, the Methodists, the Anglicans, the Moromon's etc.
come from.
We know who started those denominations, we have their writtings, we know what they did and believed, we know who their followers were, we know when and how they died.
We know the same thing about the founder of Islam etc.

Now simply give me that Historical info on the Catholic Church and let me do the research to see how credible the information is.
Until then...
The catholic Church dates back to Christ...End of Story

There were no baptists, methodists, lutherans, seventh day adventists, presbyterians, Trinitarians and the salvation army.
Those were all invented by men after the 16th century

The second Pope was Pope Linus in 67AD
Next was Cletus
Next was Clement
There is an unbreakable Chain of Popes that dates back to the time of Peter
Open up a world book encyclopedia (that is not a Catholic book)
History shows these truths to be clear

I didnt say History proves it to be the true Church

History does however repeatedly affirm that The Catholic Church dates back to the first Century.
History clearly shows all the documentation that there was one Christian Church before the 16th century
It was Catholic in tradition and belief in the seven Sacraments.
There is no Historical evidence that there were other Christian Churches until the reformation.

You funny boy.
Now it is time to invoke historical science. You want to know what that says?

The first time the title "Pope" appears on the scene is between 300 - 600 AD.

I bet you if Linus, Cletus and Clement were still alive they would have no clue what you are talking about.

Every other Church has a human founder, why not the Catholic Church.

The RCC is not the church Christ founded.  You really have no idea whatsoever even what the church is that Jesus founded.

Well of course Christ didn't physically find the Roman Church no more than He physically founded the Alexandrian Church or Antioch or Ephesus or Corinth or Babylon. Historically speaking Jesus never even went to Rome so duh.

The Catholic Church(as Matt1 has said like fifty times now) was founded by Jesus Christ and was born on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem by way of the Holy Spirit's outpouring.

The church in Rome ("Roman" Catholic) had Christians in it since the very beginning and was apart of the Early Church that was born in Jerusalem.

Again its not like we have an entire epistle in the New Testament that verifies this or anything like that.

The Catholic Church is not just the "Roman Catholic Church"
We have many rites that are not "Roman"

Im going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say this is radical ignorance on their part
that way it isnt their fault
Maybe they were born with an inability to learn or see the truth.
