A few months ago my wife showed me a post on facebook with a picture of an overturned cattle truck on a Dallas freeway with several cows wondering around and a passerby had stopped and was holding a handwritten sign that said:

Took the kids to Dairy Queen after dinner. They ordered their dessert choices and we waited about 5 minutes for them to call out our number. The young lady (maybe 17) handed each child their ice cream. Not one looked her in the eye. Not one said thank you. Not to her, not to me... So I waited. I counted to 10
in my head as they dug into their ice cream and the young lady just looked at me (probably because she thought I was hearing voices) and I watched as my children strolled out the door. I followed them outside where I calmly collected their ice creams and my kids watched in horror as I deposited them into the nearby garbage can. All 3 launched into mass hysteria. I waited. Quiet. Calm. When they realized I had something to say, they quieted down.
I explained that one day, if they were lucky, they would work a job like that young lady. And I would hope that people would see them. Really see them. Look them in the eye and say thank you. We are too old at 8/7/5 to move through our days without exercising manners and honestly basic human decency.
So today, I am the meanest mom in the world.

Saw this today, and it pretty much sums up how I feel:

Dear Hollywood celebrities,
You exist for my entertainment. Some of you are great eye candy. Some of you can deliver a line with such conviction that you bring tears to my eyes. Some of you can scare the crap out of me. Others make me laugh. But you all have one thing in common, you only have a place in my world to entertain me. That's it.
You make your living pretending to be someone else. Playing dress up like a 6 year old. You live
in a make believe world in front of a camera. And often when you are away from one too. Your entire existence depends on my patronage.
I'll crank the organ grinder; you dance.
I don't really care where you stand on issues. Honestly, your stance matters far less to me than that of my neighbor. You see, you aren't real. I turn off my TV or shut down my computer and you cease to exist in my world. Once I am done with you, I can put you back in your little box until I want you to entertain me again.
I don't care that you think the BP executives deserve the death penalty. But I bet you looked cute saying it.
And you? Really? I'm supposed to care what the director of fluffy tripe made for gullible people thinks about global warming or gun control? Get back into your bubble. I'll let you know when I'm in the mood for something blue and shiny.
And I'm also supposed to care that you will leave this great country if Trump becomes president? Ha. Please don't forget to close the door behind you. We'd like to reserve your seat for someone who loves this country and really wants to be here.
Make me laugh, or cry. Scare me. But realize that the only words of yours that matter are scripted. I might agree with some of you from time to time, but it doesn't matter. In my world, you exist solely for my entertainment

High schoolers representing Christ in a BIG way in Cole Camp, Missouri! Way to go, guys!

I'm overwhelmed with how our FCA kids stepped up just now.
Tonight during the JV boys game, a Lincoln player was badly injured. One of those injuries that made the whole crowd cringe. An ambulance had to be called. After the initial shock wore off, the kids were asking what could they do. Our FCA students left the stands and started a prayer circle on the floor. Other students from both schools joined in. Many in the crowd stood in prayer as well.
Two schools, who are one another's biggest rivals, joined together for that moment and prayed. It was really beautiful! Please continue to pray for this young man, his family, and the healing of his leg. 
FYI: If your high school student is interested in checking out FCA, we meet every Wednesday morning at 7:00 in the high school weight room. ALL high school students are welcome.

In case you don't know, FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Climate scientists are a fickle lot, global warming doubters assert. Sure, almost all of them now seem pretty sold on the idea that the planet is heating up. But back in the 1970s, didn't they just as confidently proclaim that that Earth was cooling down? Why should we believe them now?

Well, for starters, because the ice age meme is distortion. In an era when climate measurements and modeling were in their infancy, there were a few scientists who believed that Earth might be cooling, but they were always in the minority. A review of scientific literature from 1965 to 1979, published in the American Meteorological Society journal in 2008, revealed that 86 percent of the articles presented evidence of a warming trend, and that those articles also were the ones most often cited by other researchers.

The concern about global warming also was reflected in the findings of a 1979 panel convened by the National Research Council, which concluded that increased greenhouse gas output was a serious environmental risk. That report doesn't even mention the possibility of cooling, or an ice age [source: Peterson et al.].
